It appears youths were in violent display of Christmas excitement and celebration and doing so near a police station. The police stormed the scene and dispersed the gathering. I passed the road around 12:30; observed the crowd running away from the police. Of course on the road there were pieces of broken bottles indicating that police came to maintain law and order. No gunshots heard except it happened before or after my presence. We drove through as I was in police escort so I passed the front of the youths as they ran away as well as behind them the police who stopped traffic.

The report is true. I'm in Eket. The boys were doing their masquerade(ekpo) when they clashed with the police. One thing led to another and there we have it...

NB: I wasn't at the scene. Confirmed the gist from my tenant's friend and another lady.

Not really riot per se,but people have bEen killed in okon eket,I lived around eket police stattion and I must confused it was hard for me to leave my house this afternoon.everywhere was silent.police virtually took over all the environment.but as at now,there is calmness,but there is still gun shot

Ekpo masqurade display is always done massively during christmas period in Akwa Ibom state...lots of fetish things, gross misconduct by citizens and massive embezzlement by government officials... Instead of the youths to protest on the 2billion naira Xmas Carol allegation levelled against the governor, inspite of the high level of unemployment and poverty and low level of industrilization in the state, they were busy with eating and drinking. i wonder when youths of this state would wake up and realise that the government has been so insensitive to the plight of it citizens. still on still. RIP to the dead.
