Will Universities Admission Ever be on Merit??
I was at the University senate dis morning to rectify my
ID card problems. While i was waiting for the Deputy
director,Student Affairs department, I saw some
Lecturers and Professors coming In. I sensed a
meeting was to take place as they sat down at the
Senate reception. They started discussing about the
2nd batch admission list,quite oblivious of my
Presence.
I discovered that most of dem had candidates
credentials and they all submitted it to a professor who
took it to the admissions office. The same professor
came back later and brought back about 35 of them
saying they were rejected as they(candidates) scored
below 40 in the post-utme. The lecturers started
murmuring before the admissions officer came 2 meet
them. He later gave them a stamp for each of the
rejected candidates credentials and told them 2 take it
2 d ICT centre and later bring them back.
Confused,the lecturers asked Why. I later got 2 know
that 15marks will be added to all the Lecturers and
Professor' candidates post-ume score to improve their
aggregate and Hence get them admitted.
UNAAB has finally confirmed my fears. I always dnt
believe Unaab's results cos i always suspect something
fishy btwn d ETC and Unaab's ICT centre and they've
proved me right.
The admission officer also told them that 3,226
candidates has already been admitted(
www.unaab.edu.ng for proof) and only about 600
candidates are left to be admitted. (unaab admitted
3,500 candidates last year)
i felt so pained for my 2 cousins who applied for
banking and finance n scored 58 and 56 in d post-ume
as most of the COLMAS courses are already been
lobbied for by the Lecturers

Essay maybe considered and some other factors. I've seen people that scored lower(not really low, like 2-3score lower) than the others and get admitted without knowing anybody.

aye oo! Werey pple! Seriously! Wetin d SUG dey do sef? Yh! D aspirants cudnt do anyfn buh wail... Freaking start protest b4 it gets outta hand. I rily wish sum1 sumwhere in or out of d skul cud jst stand 4 d rights of dose brilliant-bt-nt-connectd students. Ok. I got 53.65 as comp, bt i knw dat sum1 who passd more dan me is nt admitted....tho i knw registrar o.. D tin is i had 2 make connectns 4 myself(hw i got 2 knw d registrar) bcoz i was denied admission last 2yrs . I got gud score so i jst stayed ah home hoping dat adm is sure.... Nt saying its nt gud 2 hope, buh u nid assurance(connection) dat ure gonna be admitted. Dis yr, i learnt my lesson... true o..although i had 52.7 i also had to make indirect connections..2geda with prayers..i feel 4 those with gud scores dat weren't admitted..a frnd of mine got 60% an compo 58 was nt admitd 4 acct

Last year my son score 38 putme they said senate resolved dat putme 40% is cut off for colmas.

Ds year my son has 42% putme they said 45% is cut off putme. An hod of funaab confirm ds to me in a private mail that he cant help because of this. So i know what am saying

Amhackdee dont waste your time. My son also wanna read econs but not advertised in lasu putme so i chose public administration for him instead of other competitive mgt courses. Av bn told that 70% of banking & finance had been booked in first putme.
Google career in public admin is somehow related to a branch of economics .

Am actualy preparing my son to be a chartered accountant but needlesd doing accounting at degree level. So you can also make up for career difference with specialisation at master degree level and writing professional exams. Ican. AccA. Cisa. Cfe etc. Most important is that you have first degree. I av econs as my bsc degree too

SUG u say? U don jonz be that, I dnt know about Funaab o, but in most schools, SUG sef dey get their own admission allocation(s). Na naija u dey o, if u are privy to all that goes on in Nigerian Institutions concerning admission, you'll weep. Some schools (usually d top federal schools like UI, Unilag, Ife, Yabatech etc) don't joke with their merit lists (even dat statement is debatable), but after d merit list, any oda list is at d mercy of d powers dat be (man knw man, runs, favour etc). If you can't beat dem, join dem or let dem be. It is not a fair process, but if you are very sure of your own ability to read and pass, UI, Unilag, Ife etc na ur sure bet coz if you exceed d stated cutoff mark you are sure to be admitted. That's my two pennies worth of advise to all.

As for me if UI bounced me back, I'll happily go back to my Yabatech for my HND, I no get tym to waste, I knw hw many years I spent for houx b4.

@baye2023 I suggest u do d same, except if u r still relatively young and want to wait anoda year to get into a uni.

U cant bliv it that i was oppurtuned to meet d former bursar on ecobank consulting job he took up my son details and forward it to VC mail but d reply i got frm him in sms is
"I jst rec,d apology mail from FUNAAB VC that it was impossible on this occasion to place Ibukun, with promise to be able to help next time. Sorry our effort did not work on this occasion. Rev E O."

When i told him of inequality in d system nau he was embittered that they could not help him and that if he was still in the system he would have scale thru. But me i dont want to rely on VC promise to help nxt time so av taken alternative step.
