Salary arrears: ASUU commends FG on payment

on January 02, 2014 / in News 5:16 pm / Comments

Ibadan – Dr Segun Ajiboye, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter, has described the payment of lecturers’ five-month salary arrears by the Federal Government as encouraging.

Ajiboye told journalists on Thursday in Ibadan that the federal government had with this started implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached with the union.

“It is encouraging that the salary arrears have been paid to members, and I believe this cuts across board.

“Right now, members are ready to go back to work. We however expect government to be sincere in fulfilling other aspects of the MOU,’’ he said.

Ajiboye expressed optimistic that government would not go back on the agreement.(NAN)

Good for them, But who is going to pay the students for the unquantifiable loss, in the form of delayed admission, matriculation, graduation, NYSC call up and disrupted academic calender e.t.c, they too incurred in the course of the over 5 months impasse?

IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO GO TO ABUJA AND ASK YOUR ELECTED REPS, SENATORS AND PRESIDENT.
OR YOUR GOVERNORS.

ASUU IS SINLESS IN THIS CASE.
THEY ARE EMPLOYEES WORKING FOR THEIR MONEY.

SO AsK THOSE YOU VOTED OR YOUR PARENTS VOTED TO POWER.

Baby, I work for a German company.
In one of our project, a leading Nigerian oil and gas multinational signed a contract that we should be in the office to work in case they have construction issue on site.
Many days we sat down doing nothing because there was no issue from site.
WILL THEY SAY THEY WON'T PAY MY COMPANY FOR SITING HOURS? NO, THEY WON'T say that.

UNLESS GOVT. HAD SACKED THEM FROM ITS PAY ROLE, THEY REMAIN ITS STAFF.
THE LABOR ISSUE BTW THEM DOESN'T MEAN THEY NO LONGER HAVE A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT.

Why do they have to get paid for striking?Doing nothing?

Strike in the real world is at the expense of the strikers(employees),not the employer. It is a financial risk they take to make their demands more effective Although the employers loses in different ways, but not by paying wages to down tools employees.

Hahahaha ASUU commend FG for doing the NEEDFUL.
Finally the strike paid-off,
Other labour union will have to follow ASUU step in fighting for their entitlement or demand, since strike action is the only language FG understand.

No retreat no surrender

Don't be deceived. Under current laws of the land, no work no pay within the civil service is illegal. Nigerian workers are allowed to go on strike and they get paid for the duration. ASUU isn't an exception. Foolish wike can't just wake up one day and states such.

The rule of " No work no pay" is enshrined in S. 43(1) of the Trade Dispute Act.

Stop making a f0o0l of yourself on this forum.

Back to the topic: students should demand nothing but the best from their lecturers, when they get back to school. Let us know who is half- baked between the students and their lecturers.

Fool, the rules governing them are the civil service rules and no such thing exists. Stop being foolish.

Besides, mention one strike embarked upon that salaries were permanently witheld.

U are really daft.
