Amidst last minute lobbying by, interest groups there are emerging indications that the Presidency may forward the list of ten ministerial nominees to the Senate next week.

This is coming as a top emir has incurred the wrath of the Presidency for collecting the name of a nominee from one of the defected governors. The president had reportedly conceded the state’s slot to the traditional ruler soon after the removal of the ministers.

Top administration officials confirmed that the list is ready but that it won’t be sent to the upper chamber until the senators return from recess. Already, some lucky nominees have reportedly concluded their screening with the security agencies while others are waiting to be invited for final clearance.

Investigations showed that the conclusion of the selection process has not stopped lobbyists, who are mounting pressure, on the belief that some cleared nominees can still be dropped. Petitions against nominees were said to be on the increase, especially since the crisis rocking the ruling party worsens late last year.

A nominee from one of the southern states told the Nigerian Tribune that almost 24-hour vigil is being mounted to ensure no change occurs, while another nominee from the North East has gone underground to avoid his detractors launching last minute offensive.

It was gathered that three states had their nominees changed in December due to further vetting of the association and linkage of the nominees. Some nominees have even taken permanent suites in Abuja hotels to monitor the processing of the list.

Unlike in the previous exercise, Nigerian Tribune was told that the governors of Jigawa and Niger states are not having inputs into likely nominees from their states.

Nominees from Niger State came from Gana-Kure caucus, while a former governor is said to have nominated the nominee for Jigawa State.

Meanwhile, a top emir may have fallen out of favour over his handling of ministerial nominee for his state. The Presidency was reportedly shocked that its confidence reposed in the traditional ruler was breached .

Findings revealed that at a time the Presidency was plotting its own political structure, the said traditional ruler still contacted the defected governor, who nominated a ministerial candidate, which was now forwarded to the Presidency by the emir.

The Presidency, on getting the nomination, was reported to have to have employed on security apparatus, which later revealed that the nominee was, in fact, another ally of the defected governor. The nominee was then dropped while a new face, not previously in the list, was selected for the state.

Nigerian Tribune was told that the incident led to renewed re-screening of three other nominees whose names were forwarded by three other traditional rulers in the core North.

As at the time of filling this report, a top government official confirmed that the list is ready and that it may be sent to the Senate president any moment from now.

I guess, people more competent than the likes of Stella Odua, daft Orubebe, among others and with better integrity than these failures are coming onboard and these are the same people the president is surrounding himself with.
