The President and other ECOWAS leaders will confer with the Japanese Prime Minister.
President Goodluck Jonathan will travel to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Friday afternoon to attend a meeting of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, the Presidency said.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, announced this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
Mr. Abati added that the President and other ECOWAS leaders had been scheduled to confer with the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.
He explained that the Japanese leader would also arrive in the Ivorian capital on Friday at the head of a high-powered Japanese Trade Mission targeting expanded business opportunities in Africa.
“The meeting is a follow-up to the Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) in June 2013 which discussed trade, investment, peace and stability in Africa.
“The talks are expected to boost economic cooperation between Japan and countries in the sub-region.’’
Mr. Abati said the President would be accompanied by Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Nurudeen Mohammed; and his Chief Economic Adviser, Nwanze Okidigbe.
The President would be back in Abuja on Saturday.
