Obama mocks McCain as computer illiterate .What's your view
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK - John McCain is mocked as an out-of-touch, out-of-date computer illiterate in a television commercial out Friday from Barack Obama as the Democrat begins his sharpest barrage yet on McCain's long Washington career.
The new fighting spirit comes as McCain has been gaining in the polls and some Democrats have been expressing concern the Obama campaign has not been aggressive enough. Obama's campaign says the escalation will involve advertising and pushes made by the candidate, running mate Joe Biden and other surrogates across the country.
"Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe says in a campaign strategy memo. "We will respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain's attacks and we will take the fight to him, but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people."
The newest ad showcasing their hard line includes unflattering footage of McCain at a hearing in the early '80s, wearing giant glasses and an out-of-style suit, interspersed with shots of a disco ball, a clunky phone, an outdated computer and a Rubix Cube.
"1982, John McCain goes to Washington," an announcer says over chirpy elevator music. "Things have changed in the last 26 years, but McCain hasn't.
"He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer, can't send an e-mail, still doesn't understand the economy, and favors two hundred billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class," it says. It shows video of McCain getting out of a golf cart with former President George H.W. Bush and closes with a photo of him standing with the current President Bush at the White House. "After one president who was out of touch, we just can't afford more of the same."
Obama spokesman Dan Pfeiffer said the campaign was not making an issue of the 72-year-old McCain's age, but the time he's spent in Washington.
"Our economy wouldn't survive without the Internet, and cyber-security continues to represent one our most serious national security threats," Pfeiffer said. "It's extraordinary that someone who wants to be our president and our commander in chief doesn't know how to send an e-mail."
McCain has said he relies on his wife and staff to work the computer for him and that he doesn't use e-mail.
The ad is being coupled with another positive spot that highlights Obama's change message, arguing he will provide better health care and tax breaks and bring people together.
Obama has already been showing a newly aggressive tone on the campaign trail in the past week, fighting back against the notion that McCain and running mate Sarah Palin will bring
hange to Washington. Some Democrats have privately groused that Obama is attacking Palin and arguing that job should fall to Biden.Plouffe made it clear in his memo that the vice presidential nominee will be at the center of the debate going forward. "Senator Biden will be integral to that effort, both in pushing back on the lies that we'll continue to see from our opponents, and in keeping the debate focused on delivering for everyday Americans," Plouffe wrote. He argued that the campaign welcomes a debate over who is best equipped to change the country.
Obama's campaign says the escalation is not in response to the changing dynamics of the race, but part of a planned strategy timed to the final weeks of the campaign after mourning the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. They insist that although McCain may have gotten a bump in national polls since his pick of Palin, Obama still is best positioned in battleground states for an Electoral College win.
Still, Obama has been playing defense as McCain has tried to grab the change mantel, created new enthusiasm with his pick of Palin and accused Obama of maligning her when he said putting lipstick on a pig is still a pig. In fact, Obama had not been talking about Palin when he made the statement, but heated accusations between the two campaigns over the flap dominated national coverage of his trip to the battleground state of Virginia this week.
The campaign was heartened that Virginia media focused instead on Obama's planned message of reforming schools and drawing contrasts with McCain over education policy. Aides say Obama will continue to highlight differences on issues — like tax policy during a visit to New Hampshire Friday — with the constant theme that Obama will bring change while McCain is no different than Bush.

I think this is not even enough

They should stop fawning over McCain being a POW and attack him for who he really is

The guy is not brilliant enough to be President

He owes most of what he is today to the fact that he is from a family of Navy admirals

For God sake, this guy came 894 in a Navy class of 899. Crashed 3 planes during navy cadet training. It is no rocket science to figure out why he thinks Pakistan and Iran share boarders, its no rocket science to figure out why he thinks Putin is the President of Germany and admits not to understand anything about the economy. For John McCain Czechoslovakia still exists in 2008 . . . . . . and the list goes on.

John McCain is a brash, reckless old man, and the fact that the american public are supporting him so much so that he has a chance tells you that most Americans are as Ignorant as most of us in Africa.

It depend on what you call success. If it means being in the same job most of your life feeding on public coffer with a trophy wife and now a trophy sidekick.  If he can't make a use computer in the 21st century, maybe should leave the stage for 21st century guys and keep his feet up with his grand children.  I am sure a couple of years back he was among those calling the likes of Obama, the leaders of tomorrow and now that tomorrow has arrived, he is still their trying to grab it with venom and lies.

I am happy to tell you that you are sadly mistaken. The American public is not standing behind McCain and will not be supporting his bid for the Presidency.

I have already put in my days of leave for 1/19-1/21 so that i can attend the inauguration of Obama on 1/20/09.

Unless we have a repeat of 2000 our next President will be elected and SELECTED.

Well the fact that you have booked a holiday for Obama's inuaguration does not translate into votes

Lets all pray that you have not mistakenly taken a day off to celebrate another Republican victory at the polls.

Anybody know if that MILF miss Palin is computer literate?
Some of my pals in d states r arranging a Group Intimacy of the VPILF

The republican party has read, mastered & perfected the PDP 'election playbook' with considerable help from their freinds at the RAND corporation, Carlyle group and so on.

Obama needs to come down to Okija and collect some lil sum'n sum'n we've been preparing for him.

ps. I'm conservative leaning in my politics, however i was black & African b4 all that.

Also all nigerian-americans shuld be deported if they dont teach Obama some riggin techniques

Trust a beleive the American public is so sick and tired of the Republican politics that I dont believe this will happen. Then again you really cant put much past white folks.

Obama represents the change that America needs so badly. The ecomony is horriable and everyone is so much worse off now then we were 8 years ago. We cant wait to get rid of Bush.

It was expected for McCain to get a jump in numbers following the convention but that will not sustain him the next 53 days. You would have to be here to feel the movement that Obama has created.

Trust me this is history in the making and I am so very happy to be apart of it.

You and I know this is just you spewing your own venom here, right? I mean I am not crazy about McCain or his wife, BUT COME ON!!!! Please do not continue to fall to that level as many have in here.

My GOSH!!!

Nothing in the job responsibilities of a president/senator or such lists they must be computer literate/Harvard grad/be top in class. This is just getting ridiculous in here. Can we please stop focusing on the nonsense and spend more time on the real stuff and not continue to waste time on issues like what color lipstick the one is wearing or how many words per minute the other can type.

Forclosures up
Employers taking advantage of Employees (re pay scale)
IRAQ
IRAQ
IRAQ
Billions of wasted money
Social Security
the list is endless

Tell me do you really want another dumb ass president.

I really don't understand how asking that we focus on making sure the next man is judge on relevant criteria, has anything to do with the issues of the last years. I am not sure being able to send or not send email qualifies or disqualifies anyone. I know many community leaders who are not computer literate. Should we make it a big deal that they are not? I really do not get the need for us to continue to focus on the frivolous and then come back to complain that somehow we got the bad person when we were wide awake all through the selection process.

I think the problem is that you are focusing on just one thing, email, when in reality you should focus on the complete picture that is John McCain. Taken into total consideration do you really want an average Joe in the White House making decisions for us that effect us?

How exactly did that work for America for the past 8 years?

Bush was totted as the President who is just like you. Will we pull out this same sentiment for McCain? And will you still want someone who is just as smart or dumber than you. For God's sake he finished at the bottom of his class. Should we really be pulling from the bottom of the barrel to find our leaders.

What other countries do is their business. But this is my country and I want the best of the best. McCain is not that.
Re: Obama Mocks Mccain As Computer Illiterate by McKren(m): 6:39pm On Sep 12, 2008
The problem with republicans is that they have a sense that it is up to them to define for everyone else what is acceptable and what is not.

You know its ok to accept a dumb ass republican as President, even though the individual does not understand the economy, confused about Geography and international boundaries, thinks being neighbours with Russia qualify for National security experience. They tell u none of these is requirement for President because it is not in the constitution.

But they forget that the constitution has not said u must have enrolled in the military in the past to be qualified for President nor does it state explicitly that being a community organizer is unacceptable experience to be President.

Over 80% of the best presidents this country has had in the past were just that, average joes. I have a lot of respect for the average joes as most of the fortune 500 countries we have today where started/built by “average joes”. So there is no way for me to look at the whole picture and condemn this man or any other man for being an “average joe” to you. An average joe may not know how to send email or make a sandwich or make sure he dresses smart; he may not have an IQ score of 150 or may have been last in his class, that has no bearing on his leadership skills or his ability to do the job he is hired to do.

sistawoman:

How exactly did that work for America for the past 8 years?

Just cause you believe the last “average joe” did not work for America does not negate the fact that it has worked so many times over in the same country.

sistawoman:

Bush was totted as the President who is just like you.

So were many other presidents before him who are considered heroes today in America.

sistawoman:

Will we pull out this same sentiment for McCain? And will you still want someone who is just as smart or dumber than you. For God's sake he finished at the bottom of his class. Should we really be pulling from the bottom of the barrel to find our leaders.
Again, the job does not require he finish at the top of his class. The job requires he be able to do the job, average joe or not.

sistawoman:

What other countries do is their business. But this is my country and I want the best of the best. McCain is not that.

If you really want to do the best for your country, may I suggest then that you focus on actually evaluating him based on job requirement and not on what color his pant is or how much your IQ is higher than his. And please apply same to Obama in this. Focus on the job itself, the problems at hand and possible solutions and not the nonsense the media continues to spew out in bid to continue distracting people.

This man (McCain) is an ass and he knows it too.
It is clear that he has nothing to offer; in fact, he's gradually changing all his retarded policies to Obama's.

Something serious is wrong with you, if at this point you still can not figure out that the republicans are full of tricks and not policies.

I honestly think, most (black) folks against Obama are simply jealous.
At this point, it is absolutely unnecessary to continue to debate this issue with these folks; Obama could have been Jesus, these miserable folks would still find something wrong with the man.

They are all suffering from a severe personal self-hatred disease.

I am sure my response from earlier answers all you need to know of average joes in America. Do you think you are the wiser to decide that all "Average Joes" should be condemned just because of your dislike of Bush who, according to you, happened to be an average joe? How does that work out??

My mistake! Just irritated by the fact that adults continue to move themselves to seriously low processing levels mostly out of bias. I compare this to my considering all those who can not write at least a line of java as idiots not qualified to be good mothers or fathers. It is mindboggling to me that anyone would think this is the way to judge persons.
