ask4grace: he did not dive because of the way messi played the ball. messi brot his right leg close to the ball then usedhis left to kick the ball. so belive me no keeper can catch that kind of trickish ball
Messi does everything with his left leg only.

My only concern was having an Italian referee for that game when almost, if not all,the Argentina players are of Italian heritage.

My take on this topic is that enyeama got his positioning wrong.he was abt few yards away frm where he ought to be..afterall, he had made similar save frm freekick taken by messi in dat match.as for d wall, they were positioned.d only problem i saw there was dat while other players jumped immediately d ball was taken, yobo didnt jump until d ball has passed his head.dat does not mean yobo is guilty.in football, mistakes are bound to be made.

Odunharry:
tell d op...i av neva seen where a freekick is bn taken and the gk will stand in d middle of d goal post...
Dy stand a lil closer to the other side than where d wall is bn formed

Actually, they stand between the gap where the wall stops and the other post. It's the standard practise everywhere.

You can blame this goalkeeper because the goal was scored in the area of the net he was supposed to be guarding. Maybe Rooney's run confused him but this was poor from him. However, his starting position was correct and he should be minding the side of the net he's guarding.

What 'career at stake' nonsense are you on about? The game is so corrupt today that his NOT succumbing to the apriori 'fixed result' would be more damaging to his career than his doing so. And no. The allegation is not ''baseless'' at all. Watch the freekick again if it helps.
This is nonsense. How many freekicks scored by messi did the GK dive for? If you are really asking a serious question, then you need to t know that walls are arranged by the GK to reduce the angle of vision of the taker. A good free kick taker would still locate a crack or weakness in the wall. Ask Okocha how he leaves keepers stranded,or better still Ronaldo

Yes, his positioning was poor but why didn't yobo and the other guy in the middle jump to head the ball out. Emenike and Mikel, though at both end jumped.
I think Enyeama was relying on the wall to cover 1 side of the net.

Thank you!
He did really really well. He's the highest rated goalkeeper so far in the competition. He's in the top 10 list of the best players at the World Cup. The OP does not know what he's talking about. You cannot blame a goalkeeper defending a free-kick if the ball went over the wall into the unguarded area of the net. The wall should be defending that, not Enyeama.

I hate it when people argue about something they can't change, and in the process throwing insults and abuses all about. If you think Enyeama was involved in match fixing, write to FIFA if you are so aggrieved. If you think he made a mistake, ignore the Op leave matter for matter.

Please Moderator close this thread. We have total idiots talking. Pls watch the video again...if you have a functioning brain you will see that enyeama couldn't see the ball...why will he dive if he cant see the ball in the first place People like you annoy me.
I think the guy you quoted is a conspiracy theorist per excellence.

I assume he sees white men chasing him in his dream, in his theory, all the problem of black men and african countries is caused by these white men. SMH.

@ OP, In 1998, Peter rufai could barely make any effort against the spanish freekick, Nigeria won the match 3-2

what makes you think otherwise? Besides, I never used the word specialist. Even a specialist does not convert all his kicks ronaldo has converted quite a number of this freekicks

i feel lyk painting the ops posts and thread generally with poo, but on a second thought lets be realistic and avoid sentiments this is not the first match fixing allegation against Nigeria and african teams in General.

let me give you a reason why i think the game we so dearly love has been stained with curruption. Just immediately after louis suarez's ban went public a betting company (888poker) canceled their deal with louis Suarez.
the key words here are BET COMPANY AND A FOOTBALL PLAYER....

WHAT IS MATCH FIXING
IT IS A SITUATION WHEREBY AN INDIVIDUAL(IT COULD BE A PLAYER), GROUP(IT COULD BE A TEAM) OR AN EXTERNAL BODY THAT TENDS TO INFLUENCE A FOOTBALL GAME FOR ITS OWN SELFISH INTERESTS.

Back to the case of suarez i believe that a sponsorship deal from a bet company means he has to influence the outcome of his teams matches.

IS'NT THAT MATCH FIXING SO GUYS CHILL OUT I AM A PATRIOTIC NIGERIAN, A DIE HARD SUPER EAGLES FAN......I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND THAT THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME THE WAY THEY PRESENT THEMSELVES....

THATS LIFE...

Rossikk: Why Didn't Enyeama Dive For that Messi's Freekick?

I also find his positioning for the kick very dodgy indeed. Like he was inviting Messi to score on his left side. The gap he left to his left was so wide. So why didn't he dive when the ball got there? Where else was he expecting the ball to go? ALL VERY VERY DODGY.

Match fixing anyone?
it was not his fault, you want to break his back
Re: So, Why Didn't Enyeama Dive For That Messi's Freekick? by oapbrown(m): 4:19pm On Jun 28, 2014
This Op is one of those few perfectionists, who always complain and find faults in people at all cost. How cud Enyeama of a keeper, have been involved in such ridiculous act? You sef, think na...Well, it's obvious that Enyeama was either not well positioned or not very ready for the freekick as he was busy shouting at the wall when the ball was kicked in...@Op, please create a better reasonable thread and stop finding fault in this our successful goalkeeper...abi yu never make mistake for yur life?

Rossikk: Oh.. one more thing.. What was all that drama by Enyeama about after he let the goal in? Was he surprised Messi played the ball to his left side? Why should he be surprised? Where else did he expect Messi to play the ball? He looked like he was play-acting by feigning anger or surprise.
Oga Ade, did u play this game at a competitive level before
I mean, have u played under a coach before?
if you have, you will know that from that position where the kick was taken, he has to keep that space so that he can see the direction of the ball.

I also asked why he did not went after the ball cos there is enough space to see the direction at which the ball was moving.

Well done Vincent

Rossikk: ^^ If you check, some visitors concur with my hypothesis. So it's you who needs an IQ upgrade.
hey why dont you ask dozens of goal keepers messi has scored like that.if you are saying he made a mistake by his positioning then it will be diffrent cos he is human but to say he sold the match i think you are myopic.how many saves did he make in that match he should have sold those ones too.
its either you want to smear the name of enyeama or you want to downplay messi's ability to take free kicks neither will work cos you are nobody in the chain of important people in naija or the world of football
enyeama is the reason we are in 2nd round and most nigerians will forgive him for his positioning as for minority like you who never show appreciation for anything.you dont matter my dear

common sense will tell the op that enyema miscalculated.... messi went for the left post with the first free kick and didn't beat him so logically he thought he could go for the right post ...that's just that

I can bet with any1 that this isnt about Enyeama .
I can also bet the OP is a CR7 fan.
The OP is just trying to ridicule messi and His ability to singlehandedly win games.... These MESSI haters will come up with anything to make it seems like the opponent makes it easy for messi.... They've been trying to do this in the past 5years now.

myads890: i think say na only me see am. i even mentioned it while watching that match but nigerians are very sentimental in their judgement. what else do you expect from people who keep on voting in even worse corrupt officials into public offices.

I think it was a genuine miscalculation which could happen to any goalkeeper,he might not be expecting messi to hit the ball again at that same angle, secondly bad positioning then messi was so precise and the ball so fast it didnt give him time to react..

But....it is very embarrassing of Enyeama to be hugging referees after victories, nothing wrong with shaking hands with match officials but Enyeama seem to be taking it to the next level....his photo with referee after the bosnia match trending online is awkward.

I would have ignored that picture but when i remember AFCON picture of him trying to carry the referee on his shoulders after the final match but ended up sticking his head in the referees bum irritates me.

Enyeama should not be so naive like those village goalies who compete during the christmas festivities...ANYONE WHO KNOW HIM SHOULD WARN HIM......AGAIN WHY THE HELL WAS HE LAUGHING SO SHEEPISHLY AND PATTING MESSI'S HEAD.hasnt he seen someone like that before angry angry angry

My dear you have a point, eyeama's positioning was absolutely terible, i watch the freekick again and again. Eyeama set his wall correctly but anyone who watches messi free kick knows that he will attempt to raise it past the wall.

Eyeama went to the absolute end of the goal post, i have never seen a keeper position that far away from the center position.

If he was off the center a bit he would have caught the ball but he was absolutely off the center. His position made him look like an amature keeper.

Don't get me wrong, i respect eyeama, he is one of the best players nigeria have on the pitch, i admire him but that free kick doesn't look right.

I don't know if that is a fixed match because that is a big leap, but the freekick wasn't right.

I also think he fumbled with di maria's shot which lead to the 1st goal.

Kindly spare me that ''Argentina are the better team'' line. That claim can ONLY be based on a game between the two nations that is CLEAN. If you cannot show the game was CLEAN, you cannot make any claim as to which team is ''better''. Was it not Argentina we beat 4-1 in Abuja? So nothing is certified. And there is NO reason we should expect to lose to them. International match-fixing, involving huge betting syndicates, often aims to entrench those hierarchical stereotypes, those predictable scorelines, at big events like the world cup. One could almost swear that that Nigeria v Argentina game would end in a narrow 2-1 or 3-2 scoreline in favour of the Argentines. That protects all kinds of betting regimes involving countless billions of dollars globally. A Nigeria win simply wasn't 'on the cards'. It would have lost far too much money to far too many people. cool
. You seem to knw a lot about match fixing perhaps u ve been involved once or twice... Anyway if u ve been watching football u would ve neva asked this useless question. A goal keeper neva positions himself behind the wall, secondly Enyeama is a human being mayb he got his positioning wrong mayb he didn't, thirdly that was a well taken freekick... Infact hw on earth did this even make front page this is like the worst topic ever
