Injured Nwobodo set for early May return

Flying Eagles midfielder Obinna Nwobodo is set to return to action after he raptured his knee ligaments in the final of the AYC in Senegal last month.

A top source informed AfricanFootball.com that the Enugu Rangers ace has been told he will be out for at least five weeks from the time of the injury.

He has since been receiving treatment from the sports ministry medical department in Abuja as he was injured while on national team duty.

Nwobodo scored a goal against Ghana in the semifinal of the AYC and provided two assists against Cote d’Ivoire as the Flying Eagles went all the way to win a seventh continental crown last month in Senegal.

Iheanacho leaving Coach Keshi's CHAN camp hindered his chances of getting a work permit in England. Nacho would have played for the National team and gone to the World cup.

These boys should understand that the National team plays a big role in their career.

Yeah, saw the news earlier in the day. So sad! The agents are the ones killing these players' careers. They are treated as minors so they cannot even push for what they want if they want to. It''s the agents that are always at the forefront of agitating for them to be released and to defile camp rules. That was what happened to Iheanacho during the CHAN camp when the father kept calling Keshi for his son to be released.

It's just too sad!

Flying Eagles trio impress Dream Team handlers

The three players from the U20 team that joined the U23s have brought a lot of competition to the side ahead of their trip to Zambia

The three invited Flying Eagles players – Taiwo Awoniyi, Musa Mohammed and left back Mustapha Abdullahi – have been dazzling in training with the U23 side ahead of their trip to Zambia.

Coach Samson Siasia invited five boys from the victorious African Youth Championship U20 team to the Dream Team to monitor them and see if they can fit into his plans. The remaining two are Dele Alampasu and Bernard Bulbwa.

The Dream Team defeated Abuja Football College 1-0 in a friendly match on Thursday but it was the star performance of the trio of U20 players and one of the four invited foreign-based professionals, Club Africaine’s attacking midfielder Patrick Nwankwo, which caught the eyes.

Bayelsa United midfield maestro Azubuike Ikechukwu scored the lone goal for the Dream Team in the 24th minute when his shot was deflected in.

The inclusion of the three players brought out the needed competition among the players as they played the friendly with zeal and desperation to win the match.

Musa Mohammed was a joy to watch from the right back with his pace and skills to join the attack as well as defend effectively too.

Awoniyi, as expected, was a major threat to the Abuja Football College team as the College boys did not have answers to the striker’s pace, power, shots and dribbling skills.

Also, left back Mustapha Abdullahi stood like the Rock of Gibraltar in his position while Patrick Nwankwo mesmerized in midfield.

Media officer Timi Ebikagboro expressed happiness about the improvement of the team so far.

He said: “The team is gradually gelling with what we have seen in this match today. The inclusion of the Flying Eagles trio has brought intense competition for shirts in the team.

“The competition for places in the team will become more interesting when the other invited three players join the team next week while we are still awaiting the arrival of 10 players that have gone to play continental matches for their respective clubs in the country,” Ebikagboro disclosed.

Nigeria will go to Zambia in search of a ticket to the 2015 All African Games after their first leg final round qualifier in Abuja ended goalless.

The epic encounter will be played inside the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Flying Eagles captain Musa Muhammed absconds from Siasia’s team

The captain of the U20s has left the U23 camp without informing the officials as he is set to sign a deal with a club in Germany
Flying Eagles captain Musa Muhammed has left the camp of the Nigeria U23s in Abuja without informing coach Samson Siasia or any other official of the team.

“Musa has left the camp without telling anybody of his where about,” Siasia told media in Abuja when asked about the skillful right back.

“But I can assure you that there is no cause for alarm because we have enough players that can deliver the goods here. The boys just need to play to instructions in the return leg in Lusaka and we will pick the All Africa Games ticket, I am confident of this,” he said.

It was also gathered that the Flying Eagles skipper allegedly left for Germany on Friday night in the company of his agent cum manager, Abbah Mohammed, who once managed former Golden Eaglets striker, Christantus Macaulay, to seal a deal with an unknown club.

The source also frowned at the way the player left the camp after being officially released by the Nigeria Football Federation to join the U23 national team together with four players of the Flying Eagles namely Mustapha Abdullahi, Taiwo Awoniyi, Benard Bulbwa and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu.

The other four players have been dazzling at training while Siasia, despite trying to hide it, was very disappointed with the player for not consulting him before making the trip.

Sources in the Dream Team camp also disclosed that the coach had taken huge interest in the defender and had already tipped him to man the right back position for the team in Lusaka because of his productive display and his good crosses.

But the coach has now given the player up till today to show up in camp or forget about being a member of the team.

Musa Mohammed was one of the early arrivals to the Dream Team when the five Flying Eagles players were drafted into the U23 side.

Pyagbara Hoping To Make Second Appearance At U20 World Cup

After being included in the 35-man provisional list for the FIFA U20 World Cup, Flying Eagles midfielder Christian Pyagbara has told sl10.ng that he hopes to make it back-to-back appearance at the U20 World Cup.

The Sharks midfielder was part of John Obuh’s squad that exited the competition at the second round in 2013 in Turkey, and having been named in Manu Garba’s provisional squad, he says he’s looking at making another appearance at the competition.

“It will be a great honor and privilege for me to play at the World Cup again,” he said.

“The last time wasn’t very good for us because we wanted to win the competition but it didn’t happen, so I’m hoping to do it this time.

“We will be going there as champions and it will be give me great pleasure to be a part of it,” he posited.

The 19-year old was not a member of the present team from the start, with the bulk of the players coming from the 2013 U17’s, but made the team to the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal, and says what matters is what he does on the pitch and not whether he started with the team or not.

“That doesn’t matter. We are footballers and it doesn’t matter whether you’ve been here for one year or one day, the most important thing is what you do on the pitch and that is what will speak for me.”

Manu Garba Reads Riot Act To Flying Eagles Players

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has warned the players on his provisional list for the U20 World Cup they will have to go through a thorough screening and trial period and impress for them to make the final 21-man list to New Zealand.

The Nigeria U20 coach has submitted his 35-man provisional list to world football governing body, FIFA, ahead of the 2015 U20 World Cup and says there won’t be a free ticket for any of the players to New Zealand.

“These players have done well over the last two or three years if they shouldn’t think that will be enough to take them to the World Cup,” he told sl10.ng.

“This is the biggest stage of football at this level and they must show us they can compete at this level, so it won’t be business as usual.

“Nobody will be selected based on what he has done before, we must see what you can do during our sessions before the World Cup,” he said.

Asked if he would be willing to drop the team’s big names if they don’t impress, Manu was unequivocal in his stance, by adding that he has no big names in his squad.

“There are no big names here; everyone will be given an equal opportunity. All the players are important and that’s why we have them but if they don’t impress us, they won’t go to the World Cup.”

Sometimes I wonder what goes on in the heads of these agents. This is a big jump in Musa Muhammed's career. He was about to break into the National team's Olympic squad, which is the closest to the Super Eagles.

This would lift the status of Musa Muhammed. Why not travel with the boy after the match. The agent suppose to discuss with both Coach Siasia and Coach Manu Garba to work a beneficial plan for all parties.

I understand, a similar thing happened with Aliyu Abubakar, that is why he has been left out of the provisional list .

Gross indiscipline. If siasia becomes Nigeria's coach, he might be reluctant to invite him.

Same thing that occurred to me. I hope these coaches are lenient with these guys. For instance, I believe Iheanacho did not want to dump the CHAN team but pressure from his agent and father made him leave.

He was a minor then and Nacho could not say no.

What is sad is that, Coach Siasia had plans to play Musa Muhammed. Coach Siasia will have to change his plans.

NFF To Penalise Flying Eagles Captain For Abandoning Dream Team

The Nigeria Football Federation have announced that they will take action against Flying Eagles captain Musa Mohammed if found guilty of leaving the national U23 team’s camp without express permission.

The right-back, last Friday, left the team’s camp in Abuja claiming to be travelling to Lagos to retrieve his international passport at the German embassy. It is believed he has headed out of the country for trials without the express permission of the NFF or the team’s handlers.

And the Nigeria Football Federation has registered its displeasure by saying the 18-year-old will be sanctioned if found guilty of breaching camp rules.

“The NFF has expressed displeasure with the disappearance of U20 national team captain Musa Mohammed from the camp of the U23 national team that is heading to Zambia for a crucial match,” the NFF announced via it’s twitter handle.

“NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi was miffed when officially briefed about the antics of the defender.

“Sanusi was unequivocal that Mohammed and anyone found to have aided his unwholesome conduct would face severe sanctions,” their twitter account concluded.

Sl10.ng had on Wednesday broke the news of Mohammed’s disappearance from the team’s camp, as they prepared for this weekend’s crucial All Africa Games qualifier against Zambia in Lusaka.

NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi Miffed At Musa

Dream Team VI will be missing the services of versatile defender Musa Muhammed, who reportedly deceived the technical crew to go on trial abroad.

The youngster captained the Flying Eagles to win the 2015 Orange African Youth Championship in Senegal.

His recent action has reportedly irked the Nigeria Football Federation, who has expressed displeasure with his disappearance from the camp of the U-23 National Team that is heading to Zambia for a crucial match.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, was miffed when officially briefed about the antics of the defender, who captained the U-17 National Team to a record fourth FIFA U-17 world title in 2013.

“It will be an understatement for me to say the Nigeria Football Federation is disappointed by the behavior of Musa Muhammed. This is someone who should be a role model for the Nigerian youth.

“He is very good at what he does and we love him for that. But discipline is essential in any vocation and the NFF will no longer condone indiscipline on the part of any player or coach of any of the National Teams.”

Sanusi was unequivocal that Muhammed and anyone found to have aided his unwholesome conduct would face severe sanctions.

“The player had been drafted to the U-23 team because the Coach believes he has something to contribute to bring glory to the nation. Whoever is found to be culpable in this shameful act will be punished.”

On 8th April, SL10.ng confirmed the disappearance of the right-back <http:///lma0M0> who travelled abroad for trials without Samson Siasia’s permission.

Reports suggested that he had been impressive for the Dream Team VI in training but left the camp last Friday after he took permission from the coach, Samson Siasia, with the excuse that he was going to Lagos to collect his international passport from the German embassy.

SL10.ng authoritatively confirmed that the 18-year-old travelled abroad for trials.

The player who was on the radar of Besiktas in the past was not part of the 18–man list released by Coach Samson Siasia for the trip to Zambia, where the Dream Team will on Sunday seek to win a spot at the Men’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games

EXCLUSIVE: New Kanu 'Muazam' signs for Westerlo

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal today that Flying Eagles forward Abdullahi Ibrahim Alhassan aka ‘Muazam’, who has been compared to legendary Nwankwo Kanu, has signed a three-year deal with Belgian club KVC Westerlo.

A top source informed AfricanFootball.com that ‘Muazam’ impressed while on trials with the ambitious Belgian club, which included being part of the team who thrashed the Myanmar national team 3-0 in a friendly on Tuesday.

“He has signed a three-year contract with Westerlo after he passed a medical and trials with them,” the source informed.

‘Muazam’ has widely been likened to a new, but quicker version of former Arsenal star Nwankwo Kanu. He is strong on the ball and knows his way to goal.

The Kano-born forward has been one of the most sought after players during the Golden Eaglets Class of 2013 even though he later did not feature for the team at the CAF U17 Championship in Morocco.

He was on the shopping list of several other clubs in England, Sweden and Croatia.

He later had extended trials at Kalmar in Sweden as well as HNK Rejika in Croatia.

It was at Rejika that he suffered an injury, but he recovered just in time for the African Youth Championship in Senegal, where he played a bit role as Nigeria won a record seventh title.

He is on the provisional squad for the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Westerlo, on the other hand, returned to the Belgian top flight after they won the second division title last season.

They are now playing off for a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Tosin Dosunmu and Moses Adams are among the Nigeria stars who have featured for Westerlo.

Muazam - My move to Europe was long in coming

Alhassan Ibrahim aka ‘Muazam’ has told AfricanFootball.com his move to Belgian club Westerlo was long overdue after trials at several other European clubs.

The 18-year-old ‘Muazam’, who has been widely compared to Nwankwo Kanu, has signed a three-year contract with Westerlo.

“I have a job now, but it was long in coming,” said the excited Kano-born striker.

“Westerlo may not be Anderlecht or Standard Liege, but they are a comfortable club. They are a wonderful club and both the players and officials have received me warmly.

“The coach has really supported me in the short time I was there.

“I now hope to grow with Westerlo.”

His long search for a contract in Europe took him to three countries – he spent a total of five weeks at Kalmar in Sweden, he was at Manchester City for three weeks and trained with Croatian club HNK Rejika for six weeks.

The Flying Eagles striker has already bonded with his new teammates, most of whom speak English, particularly Mali U20 striker Alhassan Diallo, who also featured at the recent African Youth Championship in Senegal.

“He gave me a pair of hard-stud boots when I was having problems with my own boots because of the slippery pitch,” revealed the Nigeria youngster.

He also hopes to be fully integrated in the main squad before the start of the new season in the summer.

“The way it is I would only miss a week of pre-season training as a result of the U20 World Cup. But I will still have six full weeks to train with the team and get to know what is expected of me,” he said.

Already his greatest success is that his father, Abdullahi, who seriously opposed Muazam’s chosen career after his oldest son failed to make the grade as a footballer, is now his No.1 fan.

“My father is a very happy man. He is 1000% behind me now,” he announced proudly.

Gent Place Hefty Price Tag On Simon

Gent have placed a hefty 20 million-pound price tag on their Nigeria wonder kid Simon Moses, according to manager Michael Louwagie.

While reacting to stories about Moses leaving the club in the summer, the manager admits a bid around what it cost Everton to price Marouane Fellaini will be good enough to tempt them into selling.

"Initially, I want to scare the clubs that way," said Louwagie to Nieuwsblad.

"But actually that amount is not excessive. The English teams won't be shock at that amount.

"Moreover Marouane Fellaini was sold for over twenty million, Why won't Moses be worth that amount?.

Simon has taken the league in Belgium by storm getting picked 6 times in the Belgium league team of the week in the ten games he has played since his move from AS Trencin of Slovakia.

Despite only joining the team in January, the 19- year-old has been nominated for the Ebony Shoe award given to the best player of Africa origin in the Belgium league.

His fine form has not gone unnoticed by Nigeria's national team selectors, as he was capped twice at senior level in Nigeria's last two friendly games against Uganda and South Africa.

Also he is among a list of 35 players who will battle it out for a spot in Nigeria's 21-man squad for the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand later this year.

Ugbade Targeting First U20 World Cup Title

Flying Eagles assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade, says it is very possible for Nigeria to win a first FIFA U20 World Cup.

The Nigerian U20’s play Brazil, Hungary and North Korea in group E of the U20 World Cup in New Zealand, and Ugbade says it is very possible they win the tournament for the first time.

“We can win it especially seeing as we haven’t won it before. This is a very good opportunity for us and we should take advantage of it.

“We have done well in this competition in the past, but we never won it. Maybe this is our chance to do it and I believe we have the right materials for the job.”

Nigeria are yet to win the FIFA U20 World Cup despite coming so close on several occasions, but it is believed in several quarters this is the team to finally lift the trophy, and Ugbade seems to share in that sentiment.

“We have done a lot with these boys and we hope it bears fruit this time. The U20 World Cup will be different from the U17 World Cup and we must work towards getting to the level required and with the players understanding the information and science that governs the game, I believe we will do it.”

Awoniyi brace catapults Nigeria U23

Nigeria's Under-23 national team have qualified for men's football event of the All-Africa Games billed to hold in Congo in September this year.

The Nigerian under-23s defeated Zambia 2-1 at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday to progress on a 2-1 aggregate after the first leg ended 0-0 in Abuja two weeks back.

Taiwo Awoniyi called up from the Flying Eagles by the Nigerian under-23 head coach, Samson Siasia, was the hero of the day as he scored a goal in each half to ensure that the West Africans book their passage to the All-Africa Games.

The Zambians were on the front foot early in the game with Mukuka Mulenga and Shadreck Malambo trying from range.

The early pressure of the Zambians nearly yielded a goal in the 23rd minute when the effort of Ronald Kampamba came off the woodwork with Emmanuel Daniel in Nigeria's goal beaten.

Kampamba continued to trouble the backline of Siasia's team until Awoniyi popped up to give Nigeria the lead with 11 minutes to the break.

Zambia looked revved up in the restart and Kampamba could only drag his shot wide off target just five minutes into the second half.

Siasia then sent on left-back Mustapha Abdullahi for Bernard Bulbwa, both drafted in from the under-20s in a a tactical move to go defensive and also curb the wing play of the Zambians.

Zambia continued to push forward and Friday Samu produced a superb strike that forced Daniel into a fine save in the 56th minute.

The Zambian under-23s kept the pressure on Nigeria and deservedly levelled matters in Lusaka through Samu with Malambo, playing the role of provider with 14 minutes to time.

With 10 minutes to go, Kampamba nearly stole the show with a second goal for Zambia but his attempt to chip the ball over Nigeria goalkeeper Daniel was saved.

Just when Zambia thought they could go for the kill, the impressive Awoniyi struck again with four minutes to time.

Awoniyi's goal at the death was enough to send Nigeria through to the All-Africa Games despite a spirited display from the Zambians.

I left camp with coach Siasia's permission, says Musa Muhammed

Nigeria U20 national team captain, Musa Muhammed, has said he left the camp of the U23 team with the permission of head coach Samson Siasia last Wednesday.

Goal had reported that the golden boot winner at the African Youth Championship absconded from camp in order to sign a contract in Europe with Siasia expressing disappointment at his action.

Shortly afterwards, Siasia announced his team of 18 players that travelled to Lusaka for Sunday's All Africa Games final qualifying match against Zambia U23.

The Nigeria Football Federation has already vowed to penalize the player for the conduct.

However, Muhammed said that he had no reason whatsoever to abscond after all he was the first player to resume camp. He told Goal that he had gone to retrieve his passport from the German Embassy which he did under permission.

"It is not true. I've been reading in papers that I ran away from camp but it is not true,” Muhammed told Goal.

“I'm surprised, though I was told to keep silent about it but my image is at stake.

“When I came to the camp, the team's secretary asked me for my passport.

"I told him my passport was not with me but at the [German] Embassy. After two days, he asked for it again and I notified him it was still not with me.

“Even the slip I needed to collect my passport was in my home state in Kano. I didn't come to camp with it.

"They told me I'm supposed to speak to the chief coach about it, that my passport was not with me. And he told me they needed the passport.

"The chief coach permitted me to go to Kano and from Kano to the Embassy in Lagos to collect my passport.

“They are all aware of my passport problem because they permitted me to go and collect the passport from the Embassy," he said.

If Mohammed's defence is anything to go by, the swift decision of the NFF to punish players without thorough investigation will attract a whirlwind of questions about their capacity to address issues surrounding players’ discipline.

The incident of mismanagement of player-related crisis is the second in four months after that of former Dolphins’ star Emem Edouk over his transfer saga in January.

If Musa Muhammad has not resumed trials with any foreign club, then he is innocent of the charges. The news stated he said he was going to retrieve his passport and the coach new about that.

If he did not leave the country, then there is no problem and his story checks out.

Awoniyi has opened more doors says Manu

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has said the match-winning performance of striker Taiwo Awoniyi has opened the door for more youngsters to get a chance with the Nigeria U23 team.

Awoniyi proved to be the match winner on Sunday as his brace ensured Nigeria beat hosts Zambia 2-1 in Lusaka to qualify for the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville.

“Awoniyi has taken his chance with the U23 team, I believe other young players like him should also get the chance,” said Manu.

Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade said he is proud of the latest exploits of the 17-year-old striker.

“I am proud of the boy for representing Nigeria very well again,” he said.

“The team were not given much of a chance after they could only manage a 0-0 draw at home, but they fought back to win in Zambia.”

Awoniyi, who has also played for Nigeria at U15 and U17 levels, vowed to do more.

“As a striker you are expected to score goals and I am happy I did so again. But I am just starting and so I hope to do a lot more,” said the lanky forward, who netted three goals in last month’s African Youth Championship in Senegal.

Soccer Pundits Want Taiwo Awoniyi in Super Eagles

Football followers and stakeholders have expressed their opinions on the need for Nigeria Football Federation and would-be Super Eagles Head Coach to as a matter of urgency look at how Flying Eagles sensation, Taiwo Awoniyi will be drafted to the team to solve the country's scoring challenges.

They are of the opinion that the young striker will help to bolster the Super Eagles' attack which has called for worry in recent times.

Awoniyi has become a new goal machine since his days with U17 World champions Golden Eaglets two years ago.

He is also replicating the form for the current African U-20 champions, the Flying Eagles having guided the Garba Manu led side to the triumph at the just concluded Orange African Youth Championship in Dakar, Senegal.

The goal poacher proved why he should be with the main national team of the country when he alongside three other Flying Eagles players drafted to the national U-23 side, the Dream Team VI to prosecute their 2nd leg encounter in the All African Games Qualifier against Zambia in Lusaka.

The Kwara born Awoniyi justified his inclusion by scoring the two vital goals for Nigeria which qualified the Samson Siasia led side to the main event in Brazaville, Congo later in the year.

According to a veteran sports journalist and editor of Supersport.com, Emeka Enyadike, he said the time is now for Awoniyi to be moved to Super Eagles adding that NFF should allow him waste his talent with the age cadre national team.

Enyadike on his facebook's status said "Taiwo Awoniyi is definitely ripe for the Super Eagles and needs to be included in the team now. We always want to keep wasting our young prospects in the Junior teams, like Pyagbara is still in U20 after playing in Turkey 2013, and playing for the Super Eagles .... move him up now.

"That's why the Super Eagles players don't last long, they spend too much time playing junior Football ... Ahmed Musa was playing for U20, U23 and Super Eagles at the same time.....We need to take the chance when we find them ... Michael Owen was already playing and scoring for England at 18 in the World Cup, I am not bothered about players' ages but how good they are," he wrote.

A former member of NFF, Gara Gombe Ahmed Shuaibu added that Awoniyi should be allowed to follow the footsteps of great footballers like Thierry Henry and Micheal Owen who were already great strikers for their country's main team at tender ages.

"I believe he should be moved to the Super Eagles now, Micheal Owen, Trezequet, Thierry Henry were all promoted to National teams after Malaysia 97 Under 20 World Cup."

Head Coach of Kogi United FC, Yomi Elijah said Awoniyi would walk straight to his team if he's the Super Eagles head coach noting that his physical fitness and mental alertness will put any defense in trouble.

"If I'm the coach of the Super Eagles, Taiwo will be in my team line for any match, I've watched him play in Ilorin and I've said this boy would go places, I'm happy he's grown to be a better player, I hope the NFF will do just that by allowing him to move up to Super Eagles," the former ABS coach opined.

Sports Editor for Confluence FM, Lokoja, Tosin Ojo also added watching 18-year-old Awoniyi reminds her of the good old days of late Rashidi Yekini for Super Eagles.

She urged authorities concerned to give it a try by encouraging Awoniyi and his likes to play for Super Eagles.

Editor-in-Chief of Phreestyle Sport, Shogo Shodunnke said Nigeria is blessed to have a player like Awoniyi who is scoring goals at will.

The Ilorin pundit who first talked about Awoniyi while the boy was playing in a YSFON competition in 2013 expressed optimism that those in charge of football in Nigeria will have no choice but to promote Awoniyi to Super Eagles because of his scoring prowess.

Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to sign a professional contract at Swedish side Kalmar FC when he turns 18 years.

With an assurance of a place in the Flying Eagles squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for New Zealand, Awoniyi's contract value will surely increase.

Flying Eagles get Musa Yahaya boost

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have received a major boost after injured forward Musa Yahaya revealed he has begun training again following a major knee injury.

The 17-year-old Tottenham Hotspurs winger missed last month’s African Youth Championship in Senegal after he suffered a knee injury in a test game against Ghana U20 team in Tema.

He was subsequently ruled out of the championship with doctors saying he could be out for as long as eight weeks.

“I have started training again,” said a smiling Yahaya on arrival at the Flying Eagles training camp in Abuja on Monday.

“I am now ready to fight for a place on the World Cup squad.”

The Kaduna-born star, who has been dubbed 'Nigeria's Neymar' after Brazil World Cup star and won the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winners' medal, was accompanied into training camp by midfielder Abdullahi Alfa.

The Flying Eagles have begun preparations in earnest for the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand, which kicks off on May 30.

The African champions are drawn in a first round group that also has Brazil, Hungary and North Korea.

Manchester City Striker Kelechi Iheanacho Starts Individual Training

Manchester City wonder-kid Kelechi Iheanacho , 18, is set to be given the green-light by the medical team of The Citizens to resume full training with their youth team after being on the treatment table for close to two months.

Against Schalke 04 in the UEFA Youth League on February 24, the Nigeria youth international was forced to leave the pitch 11 minutes after his introduction due to an ankle injury.

The striker is well on his road to recovery, having started individual training under the supervision of Manchester City's medical team.

''Kelechi Iheanacho has started individual training under the watchful eyes of Manchester City's medical team and fitness expert,'' a source close to the Flying Eagles star told SL10.ng.

''As the training progresses, they'll be working on his fitness.

''Regarding him joining the Flying Eagles, there's no date yet until they ascertain his fitness level.

''After the individual training, he will train with the reserves or youth team.''

With Kelechi Iheanacho missing from the line-up, Manchester City's Under 19 squad failed to qualify for the semi-final of the UEFA Youth League, losing 2-1 to Roma in the last eight of the competition.

The Taye Academy product missed the African Youth Championship on account of injury.

Chrisantus: Next Move Crucial To Awoniyi's Career

Former golden boy of Nigeria football, Macauley Chrisantus, has warned everyone's rave-of-the-moment, Taiwo Awoniyi, to be careful on his next career move.

Taiwo Awoniyi followed up a spectacular showing at the AYC with a brace for Nigeria in an All Africa games qualifier against Zambia that sealed Nigeria qualification.

The lanky striker who was also voted the most valuable player at the annual Nigeria pre-season tournament super 4 has been linked to several clubs since his exploits the last two months.

However, AEK Athens forward Chrisantus, who is picking up the pieces of his once promising career in the Greek second division, reckoned he was in such a position way back 2007.

"Awoniyi's case reminds me of mine in 2007 after picking up the top scorer in the AYC and WYC plus the silver ball, I had so many offers and everybody likes me,” he told SL10.ng

"But I must admit my first move to Hamburg at that time wasn't the best for a young player and I'm just getting back to my level so his next move might determine his career".

"He is a smart boy so he must listen to himself first and be very honest in choosing his next destination, for now he needs top flight games more than money".

The 24 year old chasing promotion with AEK Athens in the Greek playoffs where they are scheduled to begin with 10 points ahead of the chasing pack also praised Manu Garba for his success, so far, with Nigeria youth teams.

"It didn't come to me as a surprise that Coach Manu is doing very well with the youth teams of Nigeria,he was assistant in 2007 when we won the AYC and WYC and his fatherly role was very pivotal.

"Those who have worked with him will tell you he is a very honest and principled man who keep aside sentiments when selecting his team.

"I don't want to increase the pressure on him but he is the most likely coach to win Nigeria her first under-20 world cup if properly supported

Tottenham, Dortmund And Ajax Among Clubs Watching Moses Simon

A number of European teams are interested in Nigeria international Moses Simon ahead of the opening of the transfer window.

Without mentioning the identities of the clubs, SL10.ng had previously reported that two Bundesliga teams were mulling over a bid for the KAA Gent sensation in the summer.

Respected Belgian football journalist, John Chapman, has revealed that VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund and Cologne posted scouts to run the rule over Moses Simon last weekend when Gent clashed with Charleroi, and that information has been confirmed by this website.

However, it wasn't only the trio that monitored the game at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi, as Tottenham Hotspur, Ajax Amsterdam and PSV sent representatives of their own to observe the Nigerian at close quarters.

''It won't surprise me because so many teams are scouting him,'' a top source close to Simon told SL10.ng.

''The clubs you mentioned have all been scouting him for a while but it's difficult to know exactly which player they were there for.''

The Belgian side are willing to cash in on the forward sooner rather than later, provided an interested club meet his asking price – thought to be around 20 million Euros.

The 19-year-old is tied to Gent until the summer of 2018.
