Blackchampion: I was diagnosed with glaucoma last year, though d Dr. said he was not sure exactly what it was, as i have been to the state hospital 3times. Doctors in d house cud u pls suggest an eye drop for me as the Timoptol am using seems not to be working.
some types of eye drops may worsen certain existing medical conditions such as asthma. Some glaucoma drugs also can interact with other common medications such as digitalis, prescribed for heart conditions. So make sure you discuss these issues with your doctor.
Anyways you can use any of this Xalatan (Pfizer)
Lumigan (Allergan),
Travatan Z (Alcon)
and Rescula (Novartis)
Then you can also use acetazolamide (diamox) its a drug for glaucome. Good luck

Hello house.

I am really desperate here as I am not completely sure if my own question/issue falls into this very category. However, help -however little or great- will be very much appreciated.

For the past few months I have been suffering this ingrown nail on my big toe. As a result of what I would call inaction on my part, I believe that the toe is infected. Worse even, it has spread to the closest small toe. As I have been having lingering sores (with pus) on the top my feet, my most worrying concern is that infection does not spread to all of my feet.

Please, in the absence of a Podiatrist (as it seems we do not have any in Lagos where I reside), where and how do I get help? Which medicine am I supposed to take to fight the infection? Can a pharmacist/pharmacy help me with this problem?

A reply to this post will be considered as soul-saving. Thanks for this thread.

zeezahbee: If you are sure it is tuberculosis ,the recommended dosage for standard unsupervised 6-month treatment is. adult dose rifampicin 1caps daily, isoniazid 1tab daily, pyrazinamide 1tab daily, ethambutol 1tab daily for 2months followed by a 2nd stage continuation phase of rifampicin 1caps daily and isoniazid 1tab daily for 4months. It is important 2 note that it may be harmful if u re nt sure of been an infected TB patient
Pls this is totally wrong on a lot of levels. You shouldn't prescribe drugs online most especially anti-TB drugs. Not with the increase in multi-drug resistant TB and extreme drug-resistant TB cases which mostly developed due to poor drug adherence. I'm even sure your regulatory body will be against this. Do u realise that in hospitals a patient is counselled extensively on drug adherence, amongst others, before any attempt on starting the treatment is commenced? What about possible co-infections that are commonplace with TB patients (as a pharmacist u will know d particular one I'm talking about). Doing this trivialises the Health profession, in addition to being totally wrong. What you should tell the person is to go to a hospital for proper evaluation, counselling and treatment

Oh mehn shocked. This is not just wrong, it is unfair to the "patient". OMG, how can one treat a rash that one hasn't seen? There are a million and one types of rashes. How can one prescribe anusol for a boil in the anus? How did u diagnose this 'boil'? And the height of it all is to ask someone to take anti TB medications which mostly is directly observed for the first few months. If really the op is pharmacist, then I give up on Nigeria's health sector? Nah I doubt he is though, pharmacists have not descended that low to outright quackery!

madam I can see you are blind, like seriously, read the quote well. I reply question according to the info they gave me. How on earth will I know the type of boil he has, do I have spirtual eyes, if you read all my post, I kept emphasing they go for scan or lab test but I still prescribe a drug for maintenance. Nairaland is faceless, how do you expect me to test them , some people even withheld information and am only trying my best. I won't insult you but if you have any issue, take it to the moderator or start your own thread and possibly organise a lab test For them spiritually thanks

The guy was so sure he has tuberculosis, read my quote well, I even said if he doesn't have the TB and he takes the drugs, its gonna be harmful to his health. All my quotes, I always tell everyone to go see a doctor or go for a test. Am not here to harm anyone. There thousand of online pharmacy blogs, website that they can ask this same question and get same reply. I can't do it alone, if you have another opinion concerning my prescription or reply, you can give them. This thread is not only for me. Am too busy but try to reply when am idle. Thanks

No dear, I am not blind. I am just scared, afraid, perplexed and worried that what you are doing is dangerous and shouldn't be allowed by any health professional mbok. If I remember what I read on your intro, u didn't include diagnosis. You asked that they should seek clarification on their drugs, compliance, interactions et al;that is ethical and allowed. But when you decide to diagnose and treat ailments online or do things beyond your scope of training, my dear fellow human being, That is quackery and it is dangerous. I am certain if you or a member of your family has those ailments, you will do the right thing. Please and please let's do the right thing for the sake of posterity

I am a consultant in my field of medicine and I think twice about prescribing Prednisolone because of its potential side effects if not properly monitored. Also when stopping the drug it has to be tailed off, so imagine my shock when I saw someone prescribing online Prednisolone tabs one daily, no duration, no dosage. So if the patient finds a quack to sell him Prednisolone without a prescription he may end up with either 2.5 or 5 or 10 mg. When he gets cataracts or adrenal failure or cushiness disease Sheba it's one useless doctor like me he will rush to and expect miracles. And yes I said quack because no well trained pharmacist will sell these drugs to anyone off the street without a valid prescription. It's before I used to have pity on such patients now when I see them I ask them why they don't go back to the initial "Doctor", why come to me now there are complications that most times are irreversible. From the replies to the doctor pointing out what is wrong here, I am justified in my attitude. Please go and read the Doctors thread an tell me how many times you see them actually prescribe drugs for patients they have not seen.

thank you sir, I realy appreciate you. Several pharmacy blogs and website give same solution I give. Am a community pharmacist and people walk in to complain and counsell and dispense drugs , for example if uyou have headache will I tell you to see a doctor first to test you if it chronic or acute, all I need to do is help the patient first . I don't know why they have problem with what am doing here. Tnx for understanding me. If anyone feel am not doing it right then they should give their own advice also. Nigeria never ceases to amaze me.
Just when you think you have seen it all.
prescribing anti tuberculous drugs online?
And We are discussing multi drug resistant and extensively drug resistant tuberculosis in the ministry of health.
And to make matters worse people are supporting the op.
I have a better idea. Get MDCN/PSN involved after investigation to unravel who this is because no pharmacist will do this .
Pharmacist know there is a German Leprosy TB Control Centre operating in Nigeria, with health care professionals who counsel patients, investigate and give them the drugs free of charge under direct observed treatment to prevent drug resistance
Maybe when the op has been arrested for impersonation and his/her heels are being cooled in jail others will learn

The iPad auto corrected to cushiness. If you want insult me and call me quack, as I said nowadays when I see patients who are suffering from side effects of drugs that are supposedly prescription drugs that they bought over the counter from pharmacist I have no sympathy for them. If you are stupid enough to buy drugs prescribed to you by a faceless nameless person you met online then you deserve anything you get. If a doctor does this, prescribe online for a patient he has never clerked or examined, he or she deserves to have his license revoked. If a pharmacist does it and other pharmacist applaud him it says a lot about the profession.

My sister, this is the third of its kind I'm experiencing. I'd give you the name of the other two threads opened by a pharmacist they invaded insha Allah. I was quite scared the first time I saw the thread, remembering what happened to the last guy. They always shout quackery and never had a better idea or correction of the situation. They came in en masse, reported us, threw insults, got us banned, I was actively involved during the fight, so was 'onagoodday1', samgreguc, nouveaux, joshuapharm and few names I can't recollect. The end story is that the op got tired of the whole thing and gave up.

You know the nature of Nigerians with drugs and treatment. We always want to shortcut every thing without seeing the doctor. Expert advise is welcomed, but the 'see ur doctor' advice for me is necessary but hypocritical. They come online because they want to avoid the costs of seeing the doctors. Still, the issue of patient compliance is the real issue with over-the-internet prescription, they could end up taking the drugs the wrong way, who knows? God bless!

I've seen medical doctors dish out prescriptions on Nairaland, who say it can be wrong? I've seen doctors dish out poly pharmacy prescriptions too, who says there can't be drug interactions? Nigerian doctors rate one of the highest in the world when it comes to wrong diagnosis, wrong prescription and iatrogenic disorders. Do you want to stress this further?

Why not open ur own thread and give free consultation? Why pull someone who does down?

I also expect sensible medical doctors to correct her diagnosis or prescription, instead of trying to bring down the thread!
