joywendy: you are so right! I'm beginning to see some sense in what nani667 was saying they should have just left it to end in season 3. Just like the avatar last airbender series. Just make the battle scence more epic and remove the part of korra becoming handicapped.

Anyways that would be cool! I love toph one of my favorite characters! Maybe we would finally know who the fathers of her daughters are and where she has been all the years. What of soaka? Nothing was said about him?

edi287: Apparently the avatar cycle is going to end with korra....well saw that coming after she lost contact with the previous avatars. Wish they'd make one more season with an earth bender and bring back amon; i love that guy.

The spirit of light is the reason there is an avatar state, and that hasn't been lost. That spirit is still existent in Korra (Zaheer didn't succeed in killing Korra in the Avatar state), and so can reincarnate into another bender.

The reincarnation cycle can only be broken if the Avatar is killed while in the Avatar State, Raava is removed from the Avatar and destroyed, or the Avatar Spirit is compromised by a spiritual infection.
