No I don't. I'm trying to tie your multiple statements together and they are contradictory.

So, because you think Doctors already get what they deserve, then the Nigerian people get what they deserve, and they deserve lack of equipment, poor training of the Docs supposed to treat them?

@ziga:
Read phantom's response.

I will not engage you any more. You lack basic reading and comprehension skill.

@phantom:
Pay attention to my previous statements which included this subtle clarification, "not that these guys are not intelligent..."

In summary, doctors should be the only medical consultants in a hospital.

St Gerald Hospital is run by an administrator. Its a big hospital in Kaduna in which many consultants and other health professionals do work. We only have a weak law here in Nigeria. That an issue has been legitimate for a thousand years does not make it right. We as individuals must embrace change. What I expect the NMA to do is not to begin to antagonize but as intellectuals think well to fight a good cause for their members. E.g Technologist in the universities fought for an upgrade of their Hazard allowance they got it, but a science lecturer who is involved in the practicals and research does not earn that hazard allowance because his union did not fight for that thus all lectures irrespective of the position earn 4K as hazard per annum which is equivalent to about 333.33 naira montly. NMA should think deep and act like the senior union rather than arguing and quarrelling. Remember ASUU fought during the strike but what was released was for all unions even though it was only the salaries of ASUU members that were stopped.

I see what you are saying, but the big problem is with our dubious people and Government.

What is with all these "shady" allowances? This is why strikes will never end in Nigeria.

That is how politicians earn millions for doing nothing. "Furniture allowance, standing allowance, talking allowance"

Can't employees just have a pay package without all these hidden allowances?

That is the ploy that allows people to request for what they don't deserve!!!

Also how can level 1 to 16 or whatever they call it be how you determine a worker's remunerations?

What level is the President? or Governor or Senator? Did they skip level 12 too?

Abeg privatize everything joor and let people who are concerned about the progress of their business run thing.

franklininu: its so annoying when dr claim they know and can do the work of other health professionals.. stop trying to fool public. The first Dr i worked wit in a private hosital, he is a nice man and respect him alot. but the sad thing is that He was using his trained nurses to run test in his lab. Some of these nurses didnt even finish secondary school but they are there giving out unimaginable results. I then look at one slide prepared by these nurses for malaria parasite under the microscope. I then ask them pls show me the malaria parasite, they end up showing me red blood cells. I was like really? They said thats what the Dr taught them. So i went to call the Dr to clearify things. To my greatest surprise he was pointing crenated red blood cell as malaria parasit which resulted from poor fixing.I didnt border to correct him bc pride factor may follow. This is just simple malaria. I also know what i pass through trying to show another dr how to identify the organism that causes TB under the microscope bc he is finding hard to spot them and at the end of the day he end up say "these things can only be identify by trained eyes". Thes are just some of the simple things in lab yet... if one of these dr is here they wil be the first to say they can do the work of a nurse, medical lab scientist, pharmacist etc
your good in ur feild but dont over do it.

Dr The world is big enough to contain everybody.

Ok. You have just told us about a Doctor that YOU believe doesn't know how to identify MPs.

The solution should be to have an agency that governs how any lab should run and periodically verify their lab results to make sure it is adequate.

I don't think it is connected to the issues surrounding the strike. At least not directly.

If we continue to argue emotionally, without putting the lives of Nigerian citizens first, the problem of recurrent strikes will never end.

Leave your sentiments out of this.

Am very sure the so called lab technician, can tell what result is positive for any ailment and a pharmacist can tell u what drug and what dosage u need to get cured....Every consultant just gives u a list of (lab technician's) test that decides which of the (pharmacist's) drugs to use..It make one wonder what they can really do without test and drugs..
None of the medical/health sector can survive without the other, Doctors should stop feeling too important joor

@jppohilips

I strongly disagree with you that we should leave Canada, US, UK out of it. Why should we? Why should other health professionals be able to become consultants in other countries but in Nigeria it must not be so because of the insecurities or fear of doctors.

You really want to play the Canada card? please for your own safety don't, because I will embarrass you by mentioning three very important courses and clinical practice done by Canadian nurses while their Nigerian counterparts are yet to hear of them.
Like I advised, the Nigerian environment/problems requires a Nigerian solution.

What should be done I say again is to address those fear and securities. You can't say no no no... this must never be.

The way I see it, doctors are trying to be in Nigeria what their counterpart are not in other countries.

The Nigerian doctor cannot be scared of "baby nurse", the same way a SAN is not scared of any "charge and bail lawyer".
I beg to differ on the choice of language "insecure" because the last time I checked, NMA has never stopped any accredited MBBS holder from practicing except in extra ordinary circumstances, hence if NMA doesn't mind people joining them, why would they be fidgeting over the para medicals?
Even if you are a nurse today and wish to be a doctor, Jamb, Direct entry, Pre science, and NMA will be more than happy to have you in their midst, so where is the insecurity coming from?

How come the consultants of other countries have not taken over patient care over from the doctors? Whatever is that reason. it should be replicated here.

But I know you're are not interested in any of this. Let me tell you. The world is changing. Repression will always give way to the pressure of change.

Okay, now I see clearly where you are driving at, now let us dissect the first paragraph of your comment, hitherto, the consultant Doctors own the patient, now you want to be a consultant nurse but you don't want to own the patient, does it sound right to you? Is this not one of the reasons Suarez bite people? grin

A teaching hospital I know Pays a consultant doctor about 750k monthly excluding other perks for owning the patient, now you a nurse who want to be a consultant will tomorrow hold the Govt by the jugular demanding the same amount (after all, you are all consultants) meanwhile, the consultant nurse cannot even own a patient, why do we need those unproductive bureaucracies in our health care delivery? the ones done by the politicians isn't that enough?
where is the wisdom in this plan of yours?

For how long do you think doctors can prevent other health professionals from becoming consultants. If there are becoming consultants in other parts of the world, then eventually, doctors will not be able to stop it from happening in Nigeria. Try and learn something from history. It's just a matter of time.

The earlier doctors comes to terms with this the better.

Doctors are not preventing you from anything, they are asking you that as a consultant nurse, once you enter a Nigerian hospital, shove it in ur throat because the Doctor owns the patient based on academic superiority, is that too much to ask?

JP if you are looking for a mind blowing logical argument from any of them, forget it. they will hit you from all corners with emotions and sentiments it ll make your head spin....lol
you want to earn specialist allowance by doing the things you normally do.no extra training.no addition to patient care yet you want to earn the same with the people who actually work in this country, and expect them to sit and watch while you all earn fat allowances for doing absolutely nothing. very funny.
I repeat...let our pharmacists do more than dispensing drugs and we might just begin to consider taking y'all seriously.
our nurses should endeavor to do more than give oral drugs and insult the living daylights out of patients THEN we may be able to discuss.
until then, the FG ,the ignorant public &JOHESU are still in the very early stages of grief...DENIAL,ANGER&BARGAINING.
NMA will call of the strike when we all enter the last stage...ACCEPTANCE.

An administrator + doctor + other health workers = St Gerald

Govt before now and NMA says:

Doctor + other health workers = General/teaching hospitals

If the doctor has an MBA or a diploma in business administration it will save the Govt a lot in hiring another administrator who is just a zombie in medical matters.
It is called maximizing personnel for greater output. Option 2 is OK! by me.

You don't want an Administrator to tell a surgeon to use a lantern to do a procedure because he read somewhere in google that it is a minor procedure, is that what you want?

YourHealthlabs:

Nigerian B.mls have been evaluated to be of US standard. Nigerian scientists pass the NCA and ASCP exams with ease to work as MLScientists in U.S and Canadian labs.

Nigerian M.bbs is NOT an International standard. MD is d real deal.

U.S and U.K hospital DO NOT employ Nigerian docs instantly. They are made to write USMLE which is very highly competitive for non-US and non-Canadian trained docs and chances are very slim for these foreign-trained physicians in the U.S.

Stop misleading people.

We've settle this issue in my previous posts on a different thread.
please get it right. Mbbs is an international degree. It's awarded in British colonized countries. dm is for US n few countries please. Oh, and what makes u think Nigerian docs don't pass other countries licensing exams with ease

Pls FG heed the demand of NMA especially for the sake of the House Officers. Inspector Gen of Police and SSS please don't forget the special security detail Sir. Nigerians pls note that these pertinent demands shall be periodically reviewed as time goes on!
