I know what happened to him just like I know what happened to the Almighty Persian Empire. I hope you know that one of the reason why the western society and democracy is alive today is because of this man and his actions.

Plus the Spartans were never defeated as a direct result of his actions, rather his death led to unity among his people and prepared them for the coming assault which they won resoundingly.

Plus the reason why Sparta eventually fell was not because of pride or war but for strictly political and social reasons. Again all systems are bound to either die with time or evolve, that is called change.
