http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/07/fg-restates-commitment-to-freedom-of-worship/ OWERRI—The Federal Government has said it would continue to provide the platform for every Nigerian to worship according to his faith as provided for in the constitution.

President Goodluck Jonathan made the promise in a message delivered on his behalf by Imo State Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, during the presentation of 400 bags of rice to the Hausa community in the state.
Jonathan explained that the gesture was aimed at assisting the Muslim faithful in the state, who are currently observing the Ramadan fast.
He said Nigeria would remain an indivisible entity and called on those behind the violence rocking parts of the country to retrace their steps in the interest of all.
The President, who used the opportunity to appeal to Muslims to continue to pray for the oneness and progress of the country, also condemned the growing insurgency that had been threatening the unity of Nigeria.
Receiving the bags of rice on behalf of the Serikin Hausawa, Prince Suleiman Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to President Jonathan and the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, for remembering them during this period of the Islamic calendar.
“We appreciate the gesture of Mr. President. We are living in peace here in Imo. We have no problems in the state. We are their brothers and they are our brothers”, Ibrahim said.
Continuing, the Seriki’s representative called on all Muslims in the state to stay away from any trouble, adding that they should feel free to alert the security agencies of any likely breach.
Speaking also, the South East Zonal Chairman of the Hausa community, Alhaji Adamu Sokoto, said he was happy with the cordial relationship existing between Muslims and Christians in the zone.
Vanguard recalls that members of the Muslim community from the three senatorial zones of the state were present during the presentation and distribution exercise.

A sensible and visionary leader won't do this. A society where there's no accountability things like this happen. Is he spending his personal money? Answer is NO! Is the money spent on this is in 2014 budget? Answer is NO! So where is the only coming from?

Politicians spend public funds anyhow without sense of reasoning. Imagine President Obama giving a community in South side of Chicago 400 bags of rice for Thanksgiving.

Wow! We breed brainless leaders in Nigeria.

My thoughts exactly.
The sort of government we run in this country is so nauseating. Moreover, nothing is ever done based on future projections. When will things ever start working right in this hell hole?!

The present administration has got this knack of doing absolutely silly things.

Did the Hausas in Imo State beg for rice? What a cheap way GEJ is using to gather support come 2015 but he'll be surprised at how woefully he'll fail during the upcoming elections. We need a proactive leader to rule Nigeria, someone who is isn't as clueless and inept as GEJ.

My concern is the way the bomb suspects were rebranded and released and the next thing is to give rice. It points to a possibility of PDP probably being behind the whole bomb saga.

I can bet some coins Mr President didn't do or ask for this. Imo state PDP must have done this in his name just to appear as making in-roads for the president. Some of our politicians are way too disgracefully pedestrian!

Sadly, this gesture [erroneously] portrays the Hausa community in the state as mendicants!

It seems the only thing the local rice production will succed in doing for us in this year and next is to serve as political freebies.
