Amidst apprehension over the possible incursion of the Boko Haram insurgents into the South-East zone, the security committee of the Igbo Leaders of Thought, ILT, has articulated a security awareness programme. This is even as the group has demanded immediate re-deployment of commissioners of police of Northern extraction from the zone, having accused them of shielding Boko Haram suspects. The group said the South-East Governors’ Forum would work with the security programme in order to secure Igbo land from Boko Haram insurgents. According to a press statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday by the Deputy Secretary of the Igbo Leaders’ of Thought, Evan. Eliot Ukoh, “the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe and the secretary of the Igbo Leaders of Thought, Prof Elo Amucheazi will soon liase with the South-East governors to fine tune the South-East security programme. “The ILT hereby expresses our profound gratitude to Prof Akin Osibogun, the CMD of LUTH and the management of LUTH for not only refunding our leader, Prof Ben Nwabueze, the half a million naira he deposited at the hospital last month, but also for showing heart touching care and commitment to his quick recovery. “We also commend the former governor of Anambra State, ex-Governor Peter Obi for the great care and early response he exhibited when our leader was hospitalized at LUTH over a month ago. “We thank all those who through emails calls, and visits showed great solidarity during the days following his unfortunate bathroom fall”. “The ILT pleads with the residents of the South-East and the South-South to remain alert and vigilant as the news of the infiltration of the region by Boko Haram seems real. “Suspicious individuals and packages must be reported promptly to the relevant security agencies. “Finally, the ILT wonders out aloud why all the police commissioners posted to the South-East should be Fulani/ Muslims. Are there no police commissioners from the middle belt, South-South or South-West that could be posted to the South East? “With the shielding of the six Boko Haram bombers arrested at the Owerri Church by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, we hereby reject the continual occupation of the South-East by Hausa/ Fulani Moslem police Commissioners. “We hereby demand that the CPs Abubakar Adamu Mohamed of Enugu, Usuman Gwari of Anambra, Maigari Dikko of Ebonyi, Abdulmajid Ali of Imo and Adamu Ibrahim of Abia should be immediately Juggled and redeployed as we feel uncomfortable with the officers in charge of the South-East as Boko Haram boasts of plans to attack to south. While he deserves kudos for reducing the menace called "checkpoints", this present IG will go down in history as one of the most unrepentantly sectional police chief in this rudderles countrys history! Abubakar has northernised the police force! It is no more Nigerias police force, it is now a fulani force! How can the whole cps in the whole SE come from the north? Are the whole pcs in the north from the east or west? And why are the yoruba posters above angry with this call? Is thre no reason for it in the face of boko haram and stories of the support they get from some northerners in uniform? Are the igbo leaders saying the pcs should be replaced with only igbos? You lot are pathetic! Check out the police top heirachy under this Abubakar, you will be shocked at the glaring display of nepotism! He has gotten away with a lot of tribalism. This tragedy gets little or no mention in the press because ofcourse it is not an igbo IG trying to flood officialdom with igbo people... If you put so many Nigerian tribes under one regional administration, they would be marginalization of the smaller tribes eg TIVs denying Idomas and Co in Benue. EasternLeopard: Yorubas supported the idea of regionalism...it is a cardinal point of demand. On the other hand Ibo delegates in conjunction with Northern delegates shot it down at committee level before going to plenary. I now wonder why Ibos are still now shouting about Hausas CP in their region which is a symptom of a problem....when they were presented with an opportunity at the conference to correct the anomaly. You can't wish for protection from outside your region ( which you assumed a centralized police offers) and at the same time want to control your own police in your region.
