Gari originates from Gar Language in Ghana. it's English name is tapioca. The entire west African countries recognize it as Garri and we are the largest producers of processed cassava in the world. 1 Like |

If u ask me.....i will say its frm Yoruba language. My reasons..1. The sound of the name. Its more close to yoruba names. 2. Eba: Evrywhere u go esp in Nigeria, they hardly have there own local name for the elder sister of 'gaari' which is 'eba'. So i think those two names/foods were taken frm yorubaland. My thought. 7 Likes |

Must everything have an English name? Please, let our Akara be Akara (not bean cakes), let our Moi-Moi be moi-moi, let Agbalumo/Udara be what they are... Very soon, African names will be extinct, simply because we want English name for everything. I dunno the origin of Garri In northern Nigeria, it's used to describe anything that has to same texture as garri 4 Likes |
