A United States-based public relations company, Burson Marsteller, hired by All Progressives Congress , APC, has said that the opposition party is indeed the cofounder of the #Bring BackOur Girls, a group masquerading itself as the chief campaigner for the release of abducted Chibok girls.

Curiously, the foreign public relations company is hired by APC to arrange for an overseas’ trip for the group led by former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.

An online news medium, THEWILL, reported yesterday that the company confirmed that it was hired by APC to arrange a single meeting with unidentified persons in the Barack Obama administration in Washington D.C.

In swift reaction, Mr. Lai Mohammed, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, told Nigerian Pilot that “APC as a political party cannot be a cofounder of #BringBackOurGirls, but APC is ready and willing to give any support, moral, financial or logistics to the group, especially given the fact that if only the President had not waited for 19 days before even believing that the girls had been abducted, the girls would have been rescued by now.

“The #BringBackOurGirls is patriotic and humanist group that deserves the support and encouragement of all Nigerians and attempts by the Presidency and the PDP to demonize the group and its supporters should be condemned by all. Who is more guilty of a crime against humanity, a government that did nothing for 19 days after the girls were abducted or the opposition party, APC that is willing to give support to the group asking the government to do their duty by ensuring the safe return of these girls?” Mohammed queried.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-controlled Nigerian government, which has had spats with the #BringBackOurGirls movement, has severally accused the APC of hijacking and using the movement as a political weapon to harass and embarrass government over the unfortunate abductions.

A weekend news report in The Hill, a Washington DC based newspaper, which covers the US Congress, said Burson-Marsteller, confirmed that it was also hired by the APC, which is battling allegations that its leaders are sympathetic to the Boko Haram insurgency.

“The firm was originally approached to support a one-off visit to Washington, DC by the cofounder of the ‘Bring Back our Girls’ campaign and other APC officials. But the visit was called off,” a spokeswoman from Burson-Marsteller wrote in an email. We are in the process of deregistering with FARA (the Foreign Agents Registration Act), the newspaper quoted the PR firm as saying.

Israel is acting against known enemies with fixed addresses. Boko haram is different because they are part of the Nigerian society. Fighting against oneself is not easy unless you are prepared to allow everything go to blazes just Asad is doing in Syria.

That said I think it is more patriotic to criticise elders who kidnap their own young ones just to score political points. They president has other responsibilities apart from preventing elders from destroying their own children's future. So if Goodluck decides to look the other way while elders choose to destroy their own children for the sake of politics, I wouldn't blame him.

No government in the world can prevent elders from destroying their own children. It is up to the Northerners to decide how to live their lives. They can look the other way while allowing miscreants to molest their children. It's up to them.
