The Nigerian State, Our Leaders, Politicians and we as a People

It disheartening to see the daily news awash with scene of mass murder and bombing in this country of ours!

Our so called “leaders” consistently fail to see that the monsters they created yesterday will one day come to hunt all including themselves as well. NO, NO, NO ! No amount of police escorts nor amour will protect the few whom have subjected many into untold hardship.

Our politicians fight for their interest at the expense of the masses. I often ask myself when they do this- do they honestly think they can escape the repercussions? Politicians will hire unemployed youths to campaign and arm them to perform acts of thuggery only to abandon them after elections (selections really sometimes) thereby creating little monsters in the communities. With poverty and unemployment these little monster grow to become serious problems in the society. Our Senators, and House members earn staggering allowances and benefits in a nation bedeviled with poor infrastructure, unemployment, corruption and insecurity to mention but a few.

But is this only about the leaders and Politicians? What about we the followers who are also leaders in our own circles. The manager who would only employ his kinsmen into the organization s/he works. Or the school owner who exploits the unemployment situation in the country and pays an unfair wage to his/her teachers. Or is it the contractor who uses substandard products all in an effort to make more profit. Our the drug dealer who sell expired drugs... We the masses as a whole are consistently at the receiving end of bad government policies yet we are the same people that vote in ineptitude. People will gather to give chairmanships and chieftain titles to people whose source of income we can not vouch for.

Today, it's all about money, where are those values we were known for as a people? We have so much pushed values away – You will be shocked what the successive next generation thinks. Now a days everyone wants to hit it big at the drop of a hat! “Work hard,go to school” where what some of us were taught growing up. Now you see teenagers and young adults who just want make it big by any means necessary. But do you blame them, when they can see first class graduates still on the street looking for a job. Or a “graduate” who ends up riding an “Okada” to survive.

Sometimes we promote policies that tend to divides more than it unites us. Or worse off , encourages ineptitude in our National Services; We operate quota systems in service appointments, military and even education thereby stifling professionalism and productivity. We operate a (pseudo-) Federal system yet our revenue allocation is largely unitary – the federating units are not encouraged to compete via productivity. The in thing is to pledge loyalty to the center and be spoon fed monthly allocation. Even in the face of insecurity state police is still a debate.

Yet people forward promo via Face book and other social fronts to campaign for 2015. Some are even friends of mine. But how do you campaign in the face of the bombings, kidnappings (About 200 girls abducted yet to be recovered), unemployment, insecurity, corruption … geeze!!!

These people should remember - a people can exist without a formal leader, But there can NEVER be a formal leader without the people.

Some of us may feel that we are in that “comfort zone”. Helloooo, reality check! The bombings have begun to move down south and away from the North East.

Only God can save us but it must start with us – Yes you and I speaking up and acting, after all,God has given us all that we need to succeed.

I LOVE my country but truth must be told. Please give it a thought.

P.S: This is not about APC,PDP,APGA,LABOUR or any other political group.
