gaynaian football fans seek asylum in brazil

razilian federal police say that some 200 Ghanaians have requested asylum after entering the country on tourist visas to watch the World Cup.

The Ghanaians say they are Muslims fleeing inter-religious conflicts in their home country.

They have filed their applications in the southern city of Caxias do Sul, in one of Brazil's most prosperous areas.

The BBC's Sammy Darko in Ghana's capital, Accra, says the country has no recorded religious conflict.

Ghana is seen as one of the most peaceful and prosperous countries in West Africa.

The Brazilian authorities believe many of the Ghanaians are looking for the right to work legally in the country.

Part of official delegation

"This region - Serra Gaucha - is known as an area of full employment. It has became a magnet for foreign workers," federal police chief Noerci da Silva Melo said in Caxias do Sul.

"You go through the streets and you can see many Haitians and Senegalese selling pirate CDs and watches. The area is overcrowded now," Mr Melo told the news agency Agencia Brasil.

Police said another 1,000 Ghanaians are expected to request refugee status once the tournament is over.

However, Ghana's Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga told the BBC he doubted this.

Those who have requested asylum are believed to be part of the official group of 650 fans sent to Brazil to support the national team.

Officials have previously said that the delegation mostly comprised supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Ghana went home without a win and failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup
Caxias do Sul is more than 1,600 km (1,000 miles) away from the venues where the Ghanaian team played - the north-eastern cities of Natal and Fortaleza and in the capital, Brasilia.

The team, known as the Black Stars, lost two matches - to the United States and Portugal - but drew with World Cup finalists Germany. They failed to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Brazilian legislation allows potential refugees to work legally in the country once they have filed for asylum.

The fact that the Ghanaians have entered the country on tourist visas should not be taken into consideration when considering whether to grant them asylum, a Justice Ministry official said.

"Asylum cannot be requested at a Brazilian embassy. The asylum-seeker must be in the country to apply," said Joao Guilherme Granja.

"We have hundreds of Syrian refugees in Brazil at the moment in the same situation."

Most of the Ghanaian asylum seekers in Caxias do Sul have been given shelter by local Roman Catholic churches.

nonsense the only thing Ghanaians can boast of is constant electricity that is gotten from kanji dam in Nigeria not even their country yet they keep boasting about it like they are the ones generating the electricity . How would you be comparing your broke and cursed country with Nigeria your country would soon start borrowing money to pay their workers that is very shameful, poverty.
Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams
says not only is Ghana’s economy
“cursed” but also “broke”.
“We really need to pray for Ghana,” he
told his congregation in a recent
sermon which was played back on
Radio XYZ’s Christian programme,
‘Voice of Action’
According to him, “somebody has
cursed the economy”. “It’s sabotage…
so we need to break that padlock. We
need to remove demonic sanctions and
embargoes on the economy and we
need to command a healing of our
economy and the nation and we need to
command new infusion,” Duncan-
Williams said.
This has resulted in 75% school children
studying under trees or studying in very
deplorable situation in the Rural areas
due to lack of basic educational
infrastructure.

WORLD BANK CUTS NIGERIAN
POVERTY RATE TO 33PERCENT
JULY 2014

*Predicts 7.4% growth in 2014
James Emejo

*More than half of the poor located I am north east and North West

* decline in poverty rate in the south and NORTH CENTRAL

The World Bank Tuesday said there
had been positive economic trend
as well as significant progress
made towards poverty eradication
in the country.
It said in its second edition of the
Nigeria Economic Report (NER)
which was launched in Abuja that
going by the recent rebasing of the
economy as well as analysis from
the new General Household Surveys
(GHS) conducted by the National
Bureau of Statistics (NBS) with the
support of the Bank, new poverty
estimates in 2010/2011 and
2012/2013 should be within the
range of 35.2 per cent and 33.1 per
cent respectively.
Although the previous NBS
Harmonised Nigeria Living
Standards Survey (HNLSS)
2009/2010, which took a larger
study sample into account had
estimated poverty rate at 62.6
percent, the Breton woods
institution said it had strong
reasons to believe that
"consumption was seriously
underestimated in the large HNLSS
household survey in 2009/2010."
It stated that an analysis of a panel
survey data (GHS) of 5000
households for 2010/2011 and
2012/2013 provided "evidence that
consumption is likely higher than
previously estimated from the
HNLSS survey."
Furthermore, the new GHS analysis
put rural poverty at 46.3 per cent
and 44.9 per cent in 2010/2011 and
2012/2013 respectively compared
to 69.1 per cent and 51.2 per cent
respectively in the HNLSS
2009/2010 estimates by the NBS.
The World Bank estimates further
suggested that the number of
poor
Nigerians remained at 58 million
adding that more than half of the
figure are located in the NORTH - East
or NORTH - WEST . I'm From NORTH
CENTRAL NIGERIA PLEASE
Specifically, it noted:" [b] Poverty rates
range from 16 per cent in the South-
West to 52 per cent in the North-
East. While the South and NORTH
CENTRAL experienced declines in
the poverty rate between 2010/2011
and 2012/2013, the poverty rate
increased almost unchanged in the
North West."

80% of akara residents live in slums
grin grin grin grin

The chief executive officer of the People’s Dialogue on Human Settlement has said 80% of Accra’s residents live in slums.

“There are basically two definitions we can ascribe to a slum. We identified five key areas; the one that talks about improved sanitation, the one that talks about clean water, the physical condition of the house, tenure security and overcrowding,” he said.

Speaking on Our Cities, Farouk Braimah said his outfit worked with the UN and Ministry Of Local Government to find a localized definition of slums and they discovered that some slums had grown, matured and nothing could be done about them except for regeneration.

“There are different categories of slums. We have one that has grown and matured and there is nothing we can do about it unless you wipe them out or do some regeneration; and we have the smaller slums which are more transient and we can deal with them by getting the people out of the area,” he stated.

Mr. Braimah further stated, “If you have a settlement that provides toilet facilities for a hundred people and the population increases to five hundred and you don’t expand the network of toilet facilities, there is definitely going to [be] an over-stretched pressure on this facility.”

“Over a long period of time, we have not had a significant improvement in housing… The houses are not there; the infrastructure is not expanding and more people are moving in so definitely, we’ll have a rundown tournament,” he added.

Your economy is like a biatch, it's fvcked up grin grin grin grin which country spends 70% of its allocation on wages? grin

gayna may borrow to pay, as 70% of revenue is spent on paying wages

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP), Mr Seth Terkper, disclosed this when he took his turn to present the fiscal imbalances in the economy, partly caused by the rising wage bill, to labour unions, government agencies and other social groups at the just-ended two-day presidential stakeholders' forum.

The compensation payment covers salaries, allowances and other benefits.
Wages and salaries alone accounted for GH¢4.3 billion or 64.2 per cent of the tax revenue and 92 per cent of non-earmarked tax revenue of GH¢4.69 billion.

If the trend does not change, Ghana will be heading to the point where its revenue will not be enough to cover compensation, Wages and salaries and other benefit.

Even 50% of your budget come from foreigner donors! grin gayna is fvcked and should be annihilated grin grin grin

gayna is morally sick, needs urgent help grin grin

Former National Security Adviser Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has expressed frustration at the moral decadence in the country, saying until critical introspection is carried out, the nation will continue to wallow in a state of “gloom” and “despair”.

To the Head of the Human Security Department of the National Security Council Secretariat, there is no need for Ghana to go anywhere looking for answers to its economic problems.

“We know what to do but lack the moral and political will to do so.”

Brigadier-General Nunoo Mensah was speaking over the weekend at a special ceremony to confer on him an honorary doctorate degree in humanity by the Pan-African Bible Seminary due to his philanthropic works.

“We are morally a sick nation,” he stated, mincing no words. “We need to seek urgent treatment.”

According to him, the country will never make any headway in its economic recovery programme as a result of the moral decay in the society.

“We do not have patriots anymore,” he said, citing the recent ignominy suffered by the nation as a result of the cash demands made by members of the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars, at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He said the only way to get the nation back on track is “to take certain brave measures to deal with this."

Sanitation crisis in gayna grin grin

The Water & Sanitation Crisis

Only 13 percent of people have access to improved sanitation. Dependency on unsafe water sources is higher in rural areas. Due to drinking contaminated water, diarrheal disease is the third most commonly reported illness at health centers across the country and 25 percent of all deaths in children under the age of five are attributed to diarrhea. In addition to lack of sanitation infrastructure, some cultural beliefs and views encourage people in rural areas not to use latrines. With our local partners, Water.org is educating and encouraging people to use latrines through community-led sanitation initiatives.

Water crisis in gayna

Water.org is working in two rural areas in Ghana: Volta Region around Lake Volta and Upper East Region, which borders Burkina Faso and Togo. Both districts are remote and poor, with less than half of the population unable to access safe water and very few families with access to improved sanitation. The rural areas suffer from many waterborne diseases, including diarrhea. Water.org and partner organizations work with communities to construct wells, latrines and biosand filters in Ghana as well as to provide health and hygiene education.
