Good Old Days Or Modern Age Which Do You Prefer ? by Nobody: 11:58pm On Jul 26, 2014 |
How fast things has changed in the world. I remember back in the days when Kids stay glued to the T.V by 4pm to watch cartoons, stay up at 8 to watch Tales by Moonlight,i remember watching Speak Out every Tuesday or so and i remember waking up very early Saturday to watch Cadbury Breakfast Television show with various cartoons and fresh prince of Bel-Air.I remember the days of Okin Biscuit and Asala (lol). We drank Tandi Guarana,Limca and Pepsi.Back then all questions were directed to our folks when we seem lost or don't understand whats going on. The transition back then was Gradual and steady Now lets Dicuss Modern age.Kids watch MTV BASE and they know the Lyrics to Every Latest Song and the Dance Steps. They have Google to ask every little question instead of running to their folks. You see Kids already exposed to Explicit and Sexual concept via the Internet and Hollywood movies.Kids wants their folks to take them to Mr BIGGS or Sweet Sensation every weekend. They don't even have time to stay glued to the T.V and watch Cartoons this day.No playing of Rubber,no fighting with asala. Now kids take Chivita Fruit Juice,Wine and Ice Cream. Back then we had Chief Zebudaya,Gringory,Clarus and Jegede Shokoya to entertain us but Now we have Mr Ibu,Osuofia,AY etc. So tell me People which of the Generation where you born and if you had the chance to choose which would you have loved to be born?tell us why you prefer either of the two. Bring it on People 3 Likes |

The concept of "the good ol days" is typically a myth brought about by nostalgia. Today will be looked back upon as "the good ol days" twenty years from now. Why? Because people generally look back and remember only the good things. Fela wouldn't have been singing the songs he did from the 70s to the 90s if they were such great times. An example of this skewed nostalgia is Ice Prince' song "Tears for Naija" which was generally about Boko & co. Ltd. he said: "In 1996 it was better than that, in 1997 it was better than that, in 1998 it was better than that" Oh really? guess what you're forgetting, those where the dark days of Abacha. See all the e-warriors we have on Nairaland today who freely throw insults at the president and every politician? Between 1994 -1998 THEY WOULD HAVE ALL BEEN REPORTED MISSING BY NOW. I'm an 80s baby and grew up in Nigeria in the 90s (for the most part). I can relate to the things listed here as "the good ol days" but i just had to point out the real aspects, as people tend to lose sight of these. END of rant. 12 Likes |

Mehn..kids of the 60's,70's,80's and early 90's did really see naija at its very best. Kids of nowadays have to suffer from the clutches of paedophiles, xtream hard core porn, nonsense and meaningless trends like intimacy 2.0, pathological hatred for one another for selfish n personal reasons etc 2 Likes

I loved my childhood days. Would give up the modern age to travel back to the 80's. I enjoyed those stripe lines and the shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound blaring from our president tv set. I think I was smarter than children of my age group now. 1 Like |

To be fair,Even though the old ways was fun,it was not even as intense or as complex as today.Nowadays,it is easier to grasp knowledge with technology than the stone age methods of the early 90s...Thus our kids are smarter, very knowledgable and intelligient quicker than when we was their age...I know,i cannot exchange Table soccer with FIFa or PES or Winning Eleven on 3D Consoles neither can i exchange Police and thief with Grand theft Auto franchise or Call of Duty....Instead of playing with motor tyres half nakedd on the main road i prefer Need for Speed inside an airconditioned room...Or my weekend tv filled with boring items like 'Morning ride',Kiddi vission 101,Sunday rendevouz, maggi family menu,NTA network sports with Ajiboye Adebanji (still love their snazzy old scool theme song) Frank Oliseh's sunday night program (forgotten the name) instead of Watching football from early afternoon kick off (EPL) to midnight kick off (la liga) ofcourse with a glance at doccies, cartoons, season movies and dramas...And also an eyeful of Nairaland. This is the future, embrace it. |

The old days had its good and bad just like today has its good and bad. I really am not sure which to choose but I miss the innocence of yesteryears. Most children were allowed to be children. Abubakar, Mahmoud and hassanah (my secondary school mates)were other children like me. Their states of origin and religion were not problems unlike today. Greed, covetousness and insatiability were not that widespread then. Things were a bit slow then but the speed of today can kill our spirit and humanity. Ohhh....the good old days but wait we are discussing on social media?? A feature of the modern age?? I no sabi joor. |

Modern age jare. . Imagine life without the internet, with black & with televisions, only landlines. . .now you can carry ur phone any where, Instead of Pepsi children dey take Viju milk which I think I far nutritious, they also have a dedicted Cartoon channel on Dstv and the likes, instead of waiting on NTA. With google, the world is virtually in your hand. . . Its not all questions that your folks will be able to answer. Change alone is constant |
