The bible is the world’s best seller as it consistently outsells every other book. It’s interesting to know that the word “bible” actually means book but what actually distinguishes this book from every other book. . The bible is one of the oldest books in the world as the most ancient portions dates almost 4000 years. Yet it is still the most modern book in the world today; for in it we find the answers to life’s greatest questions: Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where will I go from here? Even though the bible is made up of 66 smaller books, it has only one central theme: God’s loving plan to rescue mankind. 1) The bible declares itself to be the word of God All scripture is given by the inspiration of God(2Tim3:16) All scripture refers to the entire bible (old and new testament) Jesus accepted the old testament as scripture (luke24:27, 44, 45; john 5:39, 46, 47) Peter said Paul’s epistles were scripture (2pe3:15, 16) Because the bible is the written word of God, God’s judgment will befall anyone who dares to add or subtract from it (Rev22:18, 19) 2) The bible is free of mistakes (inerrant) a) God’s spirit guided holy men of God (2pe1:21) so that the words they wrote were kept free from error. God’s spirit by supernatural superintendence, guided these particular writings so that they said what God wished to be said. b) The biblical words are protected from error by God” I the lord keep it, I water it every moment; lest any hurt it, I keep it night and day” (isa27:3) The grass withereth , the water fadeth but the word of God stands forever (isa40:8, mat24:35) c) Without exception, fault cannot be found in the scriptures, Christ said the scripture cannot be broken He preached inerrancy even to the very strokes and accent marks which formed the alphabetical characters of the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek languages as these were the languages in which the bible was originally written. One jot (smallest of the Hebrew letter) or one tittle (smallest scent mark over the letter) will by no means pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (matt5:18) 3)The bible is not wrong on any subject (infallible) Jesus certified old testament as accurate By citing the miracle stories of the Old Testament Jesus certified them as true, accurate, inerrant and thus infallible. Some cases are listed below Accepted genesis as the factual account of creation (matt 19:4) Adam and eve (matt19:4-6; gen1:26, 27, 2:7, 18) Cain and Abel (mat23:35; heb11:4; gen4:1-15) Satan (luke11:18; eze28; 11-19) Noah (matt24:37, 38, gen6:1-14) Jonah (matt12:39, 40; jon 1:7) Lots (wife luke17:32 gen 19:26) Christ and the apostles accepted the old testament as infallible Modern day’s theologians have cast doubts on the following books and here is your defense against these enemies of the bible Genesis exodus Leviticus numbers Deuteronomy- these books were written by Moses, Jesus validated them see joh5:46, 47 Deuteronomy, the book most attacked in matt4:4, 7, 10 Christ defeats Satan by quoting from deut6:16 and 10:20 Would Jesus have used the words of the book if they were not the sword of the spirit…the word of God? Isaiah mentioned in the new testament affirms twenty one times .compare a few examples’ matt15:7-9 isa29:13 mat3:3 Isa40:3 act:28-33 isa53:7, 8. These three quotations came from three different sections of Isaiah The New Testament affirms the unity of the book of Isaiah and that is just one prophet Daniel-Jesus quotes Daniel as a God inspired foreteller of the future (matt24:15; mark13:14) Jonah- Jesus validates the book of Jonah in matt12:40, 41 4) The word in the bible came from God through chosen persons (inspired) All scripture is given by the inspiration God 2tim3:16 By the inspiration of God, theoneustos in Greek literally means God breathed the author of the bible is God himself. He breathed the words through the words and pen of holy men (2pe1:21) David affirmed his writing s came by the spirits inspiration David wrote most of the psalms He said the spirit of God spoke by me… (2sam23:2, 1ch28:11, 12) 5) why should I study and obey the teachings of the bible? For spiritual growth(jer15:16, eze3:1-3,1pet2:2, 1cor3:1,2, heb512-14) To be kept from sin(psalm119:9,11,133) To enjoy health and healing (ex15:26, ps107:20,119:50) To be prospered (Joshua was the first man to have a bible and he was promised prosperity- jos1: To be kept on gods path in intellectual freedom (psalm119:104,105,130) 6) How do I learn what the bible teaches? You learn by the inspiration of the holy spirit Precede your time of the study of God’s word with prayer Ask the holy spirit to teach you and anoint your mind to understand (john14:26 1cor2:12-14,1john 2:27) Pray for the veil to be removed from your heart and eye so that you can understand the old testament(2cor3:14-16) Pray for the spirit to open your understanding(luke24:25,27,44,45) Pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation to be upon your heart and mind as you read the bible (eph1:17,18) You learn by regular reading Set aside at least 30mins every day to read the bible Read one psalm daily and you would have covered the psalms twice a year Read one chapter of proverb daily and you would read through it in a month (isn’t it obvious that God wants us to be wise every day hence he gave use this wisdom pill to swallow daily for 31days?) Read three pages of the new testament daily and you will have covered the new testament thrice every year As you read use a yellow transparent felt-tip marker pen to highlight verses that speaks to you and bless you You learn by systematic study Summary of what the bible contains Law-principally occurs in the first five books of the bible Historical books –these ranges from Joshua to Esther and in the New Testament from Matthew to acts history is the record of the leading events in the divine/ human drama of redemption. It is some book alright, and the Bible is inspired by God. 2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: |
