Amefrica: You're welcome. Got this from online: How to deal with convulsion (epilepsy) Do... 1. Protect the person from injury - (remove harmful objects from nearby) 2. Cushion their head 3. Look for an epilepsy identity card or identity jewellery - I guess this is not relevant here. 4. Aid breathing by gently placing them in the recovery position once the seizure has finished (see pictures) 5. Stay with the person until recovery is complete 6. Be calmly reassuring Don't... 1. Restrain the person’s movements 2. Put anything in the person’s mouth 3. Try to move them unless they are in danger 4. Give them anything to eat or drink until they are fully recovered 5. Attempt to bring them round Call for an ambulance if... 1. You know it is the person’s first seizure, or 2. The seizure continues for more than five minutes, or 3. One tonic-clonic seizure follows another without the person regaining consciousness between seizures, or 4. The person is injured during the seizure, or 5. You believe the person needs urgent medical attention https://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/firstaid |

I feel your pain and the stress you are going thru however getting a permanent cure for a child with convulsion may be a diff. Task even though most could be effectively managed. The first thing to do is finding out the cause of these seizures, which could arise if he has had a previous febrile illiness like meningitis, cerebral malaria or encephalitis or if he had any trauma with head injury. The list goes on, the best thing is for him to see a neurologist so detailed investigation could be done and propably place him on anti- convulsants. But for now whenever he has a seizure pls remain calm most will stop by itself w/o any intervention Let him lie on his left side, better on the floor so his tongue doesn't roll back and he doesn't choke on his own saliva Remove all dangerous and sharp obj from his vicinity Do not place sharp object or spoon in his mouth this can cause more harm than good. PS. Most seizures in children are caused by disruption of electrical activity of the brain which usu. Resolves by the time the get older |

AnanseK: 1. It is very important that you take your brother to a hospital to be investigated, as there are some causes of convulsion that can be treated. Points duly noted! God bless you.. |

Hello. im new to nairaland and this is my first activity as a member....yaaaaay anyways, convulsion strictly is a symptom and not a diagnosis. so u need to find out wat is causing the symptom. ur answers will come from a doctor, in a hospital, wen many tests have been done. during a seizure episode, its better to lie ur brother on his side, and like someone said, remove all potentially injurious stuff from around him. many seizure types have triggers, such as flashing lights or evn a fever, so knowing and avoiding such triggers wont b a bad idea. I do wish u and ur brother all the best. |

Re: Any Permanent Cure To Convulsion? by Nobody: 2:56pm On Aug 04, 2014 |
The first thing is for the Doctor to determine te cause of the convulsions. He may be epileptic or there may be another reason. One of my friends used to have convulsions and later it was discovered that she was epileptic. She went for treatment and she's been fine since, it was a treatment where some things were attached to her head and electricity passed through. Don't really know how o describe it but she's never convulsed since so yes I believe there's a cure once the cause is identified. 1 Like |

This is a worrisome ailment because from my research there are a blend of different causes of the ailment. But I have introduced a few people I know to a supplement called Trevo and it has been very good for them. Maybe you could try it |

Amefrica: I have a brother who is 9years old. He convulsed 2 times last month --- the first one was just something else, it took him 30mins before he got relieved. We made him sit upright while convulsing, so he doesn't choke on his own saliva. He needs a neurologist. I'd recommend that you take him to (please don't take this the wrong way) Fed Neuropsychiatric Hosp, Yaba, but since they are on strike, try private clinics that have a consulting neurologist. No, epilepsy (if the dr diagnoses that, as there can be several causes - fever, tumors etc)cannot be permanently cured, but he can have a seizure freedom for months at a go such that he has less than five in a year. |

Convulsion can be cured traditionally and not medically. First aid when it happens: 1) Put spoon in his mouth 2) Cut onion and begin to rub in his eyes and nose till he is relieved 3) Allow fresh air to get to him and also assist by fanning him The permanent cure is to seek original tradition man. Some will call out, it looks like lizard after which incision will be cut on his face. Final |

He needs to get a CT scan done. Something must be triggering it. Was he like that before? Is he Epileptic? (no insult intended o) take him to a specialist hospital. He has to get adequate and full examination esp his brain and maybe if he is reacting to something that triggers his brain to me so fire. Pele. The poor child. Chei who normal never survive finish for naija. I hope he gets better soon. Next time he convulsed. Lay him on his side. The spit will flow out. Lay him on his side and put something in his mouth to prevent him bitting his tongue. But be careful not to do more damage while trying good to put it into his mouth. I am not sure if convulsing people spit Sha. It's Epilepsy I know of(note I am not sure) that spit during a fit. |

At Poster,..your brother is having seizures.i agree with some of the precautions: 1.clear the area of sharp harmful things 2.lie him down on his side 3.cushion head,.remove glasses 4.loosen tight clothing 5.dont hold him down 6.time the seizure. 7.NEVER PUT ANYTHING in his mouth,..it could cause more damage. 8.please DO NOT try herbal medications(that brain is too tender for experiments) Now you need to go see a neurologist. The diagnosis is clinically based so I hope you have the whole story.(u may be sent for some imaging investigations). There's actually no cure but one can be seizure free from start of medications to years after(but you must be compliant with the Anti convulsants). Be quick because the more he has seizures,as a tender brain, the more damages to the brain at this stage. Where do you reside?..i hope this helps |
