PRESS STATEMENT



ENGR . GABRIEL AMUCHI MANAGING DIRECTOR OF FEDERAL ROAD MAINTANANCE AGENCY (FERMA) IS A COMPLETE DISGRACE TO PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN AS HE CONSTANTLY EXPOSES MR. PRESIDENT TO RIDICLE, INSULTS AND PUBLIC ODIUM DUE TO HIS INORDINATE ACTIONS AND INACTION AS MD OF FERMA.

For the records we must state our resolve abundantly clear that we shall not stop at anything is exposing corrupt and poorly performed Niger Deltans in public offices who by their lack of performance bring disgrace to the generality of the good people of Niger Delta and paint a picture of the rest of us as never do wells.

According to a Chinese proverb ; No matter how far you have gone on a bad road it is never too late to turn back. We are calling on Mr. President to critically consider our petition to sack Engr. Gabriel Amuchi, Managing Director of FERMA, although Engr. Amuchi although he has almost completed his time in office, we still consider his dismissal as very imperative as he has brought more than enough shame to Mr. President and untold hardship to Nigerian road users in general.

FERMA under Engr. Amuchi is nothing but a National disaster and embarrassment, as it currently goes about brandishing it's sign post on roads that have been fully repaired by State Governments, deceiving Mr. President and the general public that it is working and rether diverting budgetary provisions.

Most Governors for obvious reasons have decided to be silent about the ongoing fraud by FERMA, However Governor Babatunde ‎Fashola of Lagos State has raised an alarm drawing the attention of the Minister of Works over the shameful activities of Engr. Amuchi, and in the process grossly abusing Mr. President! all thanks to Engr. Amuchi.

While most people viewed the alarm raised by Governor Fashola on this issue as being ranting by an opposition political party. Governor T.A. Orji of Abia State also had reason to condemn the entire activities of FERMA and clearly called for a restructuring of the agancy, he did not exercise restraint while addressing the Senate Committee of Federal High ways who paid him a visit, it was then Nigerians realised that indeed Engr. Amuchi was a failure, especially knowing that things must have totally gone wrong for Gov. T.A. Orji who is a die hard supporter of Mr. President to discredit Engr. Amuchi and FERMA.

Nigerians would recall that recently the SENATE via her Committee on Public Accounts advised Engr. Gabriel Amuche ‎to resign when he could not satisfactorily explain the Financial activities of FERMA at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. It must be stated with out fear of contradictions that the situation is the same in the entire country, FERMA has suddenly bacome unaccountable since the leadership of Engr. Amuchi took over leadership and as a result Nigerians are all saying Mr. President encourages corruption, without blaming the FERMA boss.

Nigerians would also recall that in fact the advice of SENATE to Engr. Amuchi asking him to resign was sequel to a quary issued to Engr. Amuchi by the Accountant General of the Federation which up till date the FERMA boss is yet to respond to as he clearly has nothing to say or even show for the mega bugetary provisions of the Road Management Agency.


The account of FERMA is in no state at all hence Engr. Amuchi has no sort of explanation to render, even as it goes without saying that up to 6% of the agencies budget has not been deployed for its conventional mandate, rather resources are been channelled to unconventional activities such as training of what is now known as "Lagos Ferma" where billions of Naira was allocated to train some staff of FERMA who are to be stationed in Lagos, a development which is generating so much controversy and crisis and even rubbing on Mr. Presidents dignity, as Lagos State government has vowed not to allow such "eye service" stating that it has more men in LASTMA and other relevant agencies to handle all their road challenges, adding that Mr. President and the Peoples Democratic Party are failures.

The abject and utter lack of performance by Engr. Amuchi necessitated the inauguration of a Road Abuse Surveillance Committee, by the Federal Government, through the office of the Minister of Works, the Committee is to among other things supervise the activities and claims of FERMA as well as watch out for these who deliberately and otherwise distroy our roads.

To add salt to injury and as if Engr. Amuchi is unaware of a National Cry by Nigerians asking Mr. President to kick him out of office. He has concluded plans to further intimidate and commence extortion ‎of innocent Nigerians travelling daily on our roads with what he called ROAD TAX ( Road users charge) which according to him will raise money to assist his agency carry out their duty! While unable to account for the Billions that is currently allocated to his Agency. We call on Nigeria to totally resist this mess of a policy even as we have raised a petition to Mr. President copying the Senate on this and other baseless activities of the FERMA boss.

Finally we call on right thinking members of the public to learn to take their destinies in their hands and join us in takings steps as we call for the sack of corrupt public officer instead of heaping all the blames on Mr. President all the time.

Eye of Niger Delta and all her affiliate groups shell‎ storm ABUJA, next week for a very peaceful demonstration to register our grievances at the head office of FERMA where we shall leave a copy of our petition which is addressed to Mr. President, copying the Sanate and Minster for Works as well as Engr. Amuchi! Our demands include but not limited to the fact that Engr. Amuchi should be made to step aside while he is being investigated as not to interfair with his investigation. We do hope these steps would produce results to clean up FERMA failure of which we shall resort to other options which shall include legal options.
