It's a very simple question, in the just concluded elections, was it the party or the candidate that won the election?

Aregbesola more popular than APC – Poll

A recent survey conducted by a firm, TNS-RMS, a member of Gallup International, says Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is more popular than his party, the All Progressives Congress, in the state

The report, which was released on Thursday, said in the two-phased survey carried out between June and July, 73 per cent of Osun voters chose Aregbesola while 19 per cent chose Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The report added that confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission stood at 57 per cent.

The report put the votes of Alhaji Fatai Akinbade of the Labour Party at one per cent.

According to the polls, 98 per cent of the electorate in Osun have said they will participate in the election and are ready for all eventualities in the election.

It read in part, “According to the study, the incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is the candidate of choice by Osun voters with a 73 per cent lead over other candidates. Meanwhile, Senator Iyiola Omisore of the PDP polled 19 per cent, representing a two per cent decline from the earlier survey.

“The APC has largely retained this goodwill from way back in the past. It was the party that most people claimed to have voted for in the last election and it is still the party with the highest chances of winning the election again. More importantly, the gap by which it outperforms opposition continues to widen and more convincing in the current survey,” the report added.

“While Aregbesola is more known than his party, Omisore is less known than his party. Top-of-mind awareness of Aregbesola increased to 85 per cent (from 79 per cent), affinity increased from 72 per cent to 74 per cent and chances of being re-elected increased from 71 per cent to 73 per cent.”
