If Resident Doctors Are Trainees, can Trainee Go On Strike ? by HAH: 8:24pm On Aug 15, 2014
Am not a supporter of GEJ but am with him on discontinuing residency in Federal Hospitals, because resident doctor to the best of my knowledge are trainees doctors yet they are paid hundreds of thousands monthly, they are those we call baby doctor.

Furthermore the present strike embarked upon by NMA is more of an ego strike, because they are not happy that other health care professionals are also being given equal opportunity as the doctors in medical services,

Now the question is if Resident doctors are TRAINEES, are trainees suppose to go on strike ?

o42austino: Good Question and d Answer is NO.

Honestly it baffles me when I see a medical officer(baby doctor) talking to a Nurse with over 10 years experience like a house girl.

The work force in the hospital is complimentary everyone is important.

The strike is borne out of selfish and wicked intent. How many of our soldiers dying in borno have threatened to withdraw service cos of hazard allowance? They have suddenly become demi gods, jus becos of d malaria they treat. They've made people lose faith in public healthcare centres. People currently prefer private hospitals.
If d FG increase d allowance of nurses, they go on strike. If pharmacists aspire to become CMD, they strike.

I support Gej all d way. I didn't even knw they were trainees. What difference does it even make, they're already striking, so let them go. Fashola sacked them all last year, and threatened to employ. Na only NMA waka go beg Fash to change mind. Nonsense

Resident Doctors are not suppose ‎t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ embark on strike. They are actually trainees.
τ̲̅ђe problem with most of them is that by τ̲̅ђe tym they are through wit their training, they will pick up jobs in τ̲̅ђe private hospitals.

So Mr. President i'm wit yu on τ̲̅ђe sacking of τ̲̅ђe doctors.

I bet u guys don't understand what residency training is all about. You people tink it is like a university where they receive lecture and then write exams..
First, residents are doctors , civil servant like other working in teaching hospital. They get paid for their service but are also learning on the job too.in the end, they become specialists in an area of specialty. Jonathan sacking one is tantamount 2 sacking any other civil servant because of labour demands and is illegal.
Disengaging 16000 doctors because they have asked you 2 fund our health sector is laughable.
I dey look o..

For your information they were not sacked, it is the residency programme that is discontinue obviously because they abuse their privileges .

You can only sack someone you have employed what resident doctor get is like enrolment but they get paid for the other services they provide, the annoying part is once this baby doctors become specialist they either go abroad or or to private practice

My solution to the government is to resume the residency but the resident must sign a covenant that they won't engage in any strike again secondly after their residency they must compulsorily serve in government hospitals for atleast three year failure will lead to 3 years imprisonment without an option of fine, if you don't want look for private teaching hospital for your residency
