A 7-year-old pup named Duke will lead the town of Cormorant, a rural village of about 12 people in the northwestern part of the Gopher State, after the recent hilarious election.

The new mayor of a small Minnesota town is literally panting with excitement.

But it’s not because he can’t wait to serve the people — it’s because he’s a dog.

Cormorant, a town of about 12 people in rural northwestern Minnesota, elected as their new mayor this week a 7-year-old dog named Duke, according to WCCO-TV.

Duke will be sworn in Saturday. He won’t take a salary, but in return for his public service, he will receive a year’s worth of food being donated by a local pet supply store.

His election follows an equally furry race in Colorado earlier this year, in which 11 pets including a hedgehog vied to become the mayor of small town Divide.
