The religious fanaticism overtaking muslims around the world especially in Nigeria is really worrisome. America is a secular democratic state as much as Isreal is moreover America is a predominantely christian nation with its foundations built on judeo-christian principles. SO it is natural that the United States will back Isreal whose very exsistence is under constant threat by the flood of muslims surrounding them that will not hesitate for a minute to obiliterate it if they can. But the bigger issue is that the so called islamic movement in Nigeria has been radicalizing the northern youths in ways that hasnt been seen before. They are been funded and regulated from the middle-east which is threatning to the very exsistence of Nigeria like we know it. So my question is "why do we have to keep pandering to these savages". Why do they have to be a part of Nigeria that wants (theoretically) to become a democratic civilization with human rights for all, if they keep up with these radical ideologies visa-vis sharia law and so on. why don't we just give them their own state and they so they can establish their own caliphate over there. To be honest with u guys I am worried about these islamic fanatics in the north and am just wondering how long it will be before we have our first suicide-jihadist blow himself up in a soccer game stand or a night club in Abuja. My dear Nigerian Brother, America (USA) is not a democracy but a republic. However, the misinformation of its democratic stance is always overstated and naturally misused to cajole the common citizenry and the world over when it suits the aim of its undertakings.True the USA is predominantly Christian with a judeo-christian underpinnings. However it is the same country that practise in its constitution the separation of REligion (Church) and state.  When the World trade centre in NYC and the Pentagon in DC buildings tragedy/destaster happened in 2001, immediately, the culprits were eyed as Muslims. Upon deciding on Osama Bin Laden and his al Qaeedah organization, the rules of law which the USA are known for the world over were discarded. In justice and the assumption of guilty unless proven innocent took hold. American, before this time stood on Innocent until proven guilty. Now this is no more, especially when it concerns the people who profess their religion to be Islam. My point really is that after defeat of the Taliban regime/government that ruled Afganistan a notable American white writer was on PBS program Now with Bill Moyers sometimes very early in 2002. He was speaking about the war in Afganistan and I believed that he served in the Vietnam war which ended in the early 70's. His statement though to a question was as if the war in Afganistan was a war of the religions. Christian against Muslims. He broke into a cristian song which goes something like this 'Onward marching Christian soldiers, '! The war was tagged as "CRUSADE" by Emperor 'George'. If one were to look at all of these, it will be  taken that Christians are lunatics and barbarians and the world history especially as it relates to continental Europe, the real mother of America White is backward, in all its wars and wholesale wastage of human lives. But know, this is not so, but it is very political and when a people canlatch on to a differnce between its group and another, without regards to all the commonalities and similarities, then it is very easy to be unjust against that group, especially when there is comparative advantage in place.  
Now the issue of Northern Nigerian versus southern Nigerian is not of religion, because the whole of the northern people are not Muslims and the whole of the south are not Christians. The real issue is that every group centre its views of the other group on its differences. Further, Islam is not a religion that allws any injustice or violence against any group, because no one can show me in the two devine sources of the religion,Qur'an and Sunnah that you can start evil on your fellow mankind. If the muslims can educate themselves Islamically where you have the highest moral barometer, then the true nature of Islam will shine through. Unfortunately, the Muslims enmasse in any part of the world do not really know Islam and yet not making the effort to know it. An authentic adith is that Islam is built on five.  It is not enough to believe in Oneness of Almighty God and the last Messenger being Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and pray five times daily and pay Charity and fast and make Pilgrimage to the Noble House  alone. This will not nake you a good Muslim. You have to believe and do the work of righteousness for the sake of Allah the Almighty. All these work cover everything and you can not discriminate against any of God creations, male or female, muslims or not, aminal or plants. For example, in Islam, one is encouraged to be very clean, a thorough hygiene is required, but can not waste watewithout regards to others for example. Everything must be done with good intensions. The northerners of Nigeria or any Muslims all over the world that lets any evil suggestion  into the heart and them act upon it, if that person dies doing the evil dead and had no repentance, the person will be raised in the day of judgement doing the evil deed that was the last deed on earth. If you do good you will be raised doing good as well. If you take a life, be it your own or others, if there is no just reason for it, then you will be judged accordingly. Islam encourages unmetigated forgiveness of the one that wrong you. However God the Almighty Allah knows our wanting to do evil or take revenge, He the Lord of the worlds warns that no one is to overstep the limit of revenge. So when a person is killed by another person, you do not go to the people of the killer and killed them all or even one of them. The Arabs used to do that in their ignorance before Islam. The one who commit an offense is punished for the offense under the jurispudence. But forgiveness is very important and is stressed as such. In the days of the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW),  a man was judged to have committed adultery and the punishment was stoning to death. As the punishment was being carried out, the man who was being punished began to cry out that he did not commit the offense, now feeling the pain of stoning. He began to run but the people ran after him stoning him as they did until he died. When the 'executioners' returned and they told the prophet, (SAW) that during the stoning stage and before he died the man cried out in denial of the offense, but we did not stop and continue to go on with the process of stoning until he died and we therefore beried him after that. The prophet (SAW) in his mercy was very unhappy and told the people that you should have left him alone since he denied the offense and let his case be with God the Almighty Allah alone. This is the kindness in Islam. Not the uphoric  rush of emotion that now prevail over the muslims. Muslims are commanded in the Qur'an by the Creator to be the bearer of Justice, forbidden the wrong and enjoining the right. Muslims are described as the best nation raised for the good of mankind and are in the course of moderation, never going into any extremes, over exagerating or under valuing.  The behaviours of the muslims today, if it is bad is not from Islam, but when it is good and just you will find its foundation directly ancored from Islam. Muslims are not to make any decision or derive any opinion unless it comes and ancored directly from Qur'an and Sunnah. If you need any clarification that will benefit you and give you life, go to Qur'an and Sunnah. Even though, Islam is very complete and encompass every aspect of life, you can only know the truth from these devine sources, Qur'an and Sunnah. Any other espectially giving you any reason to be unjust and going evil is not Islam.
