phantom: please don't tell me that. You are correct in this ^^^ ooo but the issue at hand is the NMA strike (I have assumed that you are a doctor) 1) Are the nurses and other health professionals happy with you guys? 2) If they increase your salary to 2million a month will you guys drop the strike action and forget about the ammenities you're fighting for? 3) If after increasing your salary to 2 million, they also increase the salary of other health profs. to 2 million or more will you guys embark on another strike? ....think carefully about this from the perspective of the wider Nigerian doctors viewpoint maybe it will provide some clue 8 Likes |

phantom: My post was in reply to yours, which included this: how many of you give a hoot what she earned there? and in the context of the TOPIC of this thread.......so....... BTW, I suggested clearly that she should be honoured with a national award by the FGN while the LASG and other relevant organisations immortalise her work & selfless legacy in order to promote similar values among us. Do you have a better suggestion 4 Likes |

ifyclose2: In 2003 a professor of Community Health Prof (Mrs) Obehi Okojie said to us "many people hate doctors, but they want their children to study Medicine"... I've never heard a more honest statement in my entire life....If there was a world cup 4 hypocrisy, Nigeria would be winning it every four years. So all u guys who have been insulting and bashing Nigerian doctors out of a combination of envy, jealousy and ignorance are now leading d "mourning" for Dr Adadevoh.....oh I see.... all of a sudden, u guys appreciate d sacrificies doctors make for their patients despite all d challenges confronting d health sector.....challenges which d FG is not willing to address....well your "friend" Goodluck Jonathan has just travelled to Germany 4 medical check-up and left d rest of u ignorant people behind in Nigeria. Well, at least u can call your JOHESU "consultants" to come and attend 2 u if u have any health issues. But I forgot... since d outbreak of Ebola, JOHESU has been unusually silent....of course they are...because they lack d intellectual capacity and proactiveness to deal with d Ebola outbreak...AFTERALL, IT WAS THEIR "DARLING" NURSE WHO ESCAPED QUARANTINE, RAN TO ENUGU, AND PUT D LIVES OF MILLIONS OF NIGERIANS AT RISK...so it's back 2 d usual unsung heroes "the doctors" to handle. Dr Adadevoh isn't d only doctor who makes sacrifices for her patients. Thousands of doctors all over d country do. Some of us even go as far as making financial donations on behalf of poor patients who can't afford healthcare. I've witnessed this, and I've partaken in it as well. Now let's look at this: Contracting a disease like Ebola is part of d HAZARDS of d medical profession, and currently d FG pays doctors a monthly hazard allowance of N5k.... so Dr Adadevoh was entitled to the GRAND SUM of N5k monthly for putting herself at risk of contracting d Ebola virus as well as other highly-transmissible diseases like HIV, Hepatitis and Lassa Fever (which killed a dear friend and colleague of mine some years back). And somebody wants us to just sit back and act like nothhing's wrong with d system? NO we won't. [You guys attack Nigerian doctors for running private clinics, but all of a sudden, u turn around and praise Dr Adadevoh who was ALSO WORKING in a private hospital as at d time of her death. U Nigerians are amazing. Well, in case u don't know, d ban on residency training will have disastrous consequences on d health sector....consequences that only d average Nigerian like you and I will suffer. Politicians will continue to travel abroad for d slightest headache, while you and me are left in Nigeria to suffer d rot of d health sector. A ban on residency training means a stoppage in d production of SPECIALIST DOCTORS. So by the time that your child with Sickle Cell has to travel abroad to see a specialist, or women with Fibroids have to travel abroad for a simple Myomectomy operation, you will realize d rot in which d FG has placed d health sector. So continue your blind and sentimental support for stupidity....as for we doctors, d sky is always d limit, no matter d circumstance. Opportunities are limitless both within and outside d country. We are INDISPENSABLE, and d FG will soon realize that and go on it's knees. I'm aware from some very reliable sources that d FG is already trying to intervene through secret meetings involving Sen David Mark. As for d rest of you "mourning" Dr Adadevoh, keep your condolences to yourself....d NMA doesn't need them....and d Adadevoh family certainly doesn't need them.....bunch of sentimental hypocrites. [b]OP.. You have said a lot.. And what I picked up from inbetween the curses and ranting was you want more Hazard Money. Ok.. So how much do you want for Hazard allowance?! Should we also extend this Hazard allowance to the Nurses who actually collect the blood samples and stool samples and urine samples?! Should we also extend the hazard allowance to the Lab attendants and Scientists who do the Blood Culture and all that other stuff?! What about the Dispatch person who takes the samples from Clinic to Laboratory?! ARGH!!! I forgot to add the refuse disposal unit that deals with medical waste.. Shouldnt they also get this Hazard allowance?! So if we pay Doctors more Hazard allowance, how would the hazard they are exposed to reduce?! Wouldnt it be better if the government just took out a deduction of 2.5% of Doctors salary and push it towards getting all of the Doctors a Workmans compensation insurance incase they suffer any injuries or illnesses as a result of exposure to these Hazards or you just want us to beef up the money we pay Doctors now and toss the insurance into the bin. What about other professions that are also exposed to varying degrees of hazards in the Jobs they do?! Example: within the Medical field, the Ambulance driver who has to drive at breakneck speed to get to a patient and get them to the hospital?! What about the Ambulance Attendant who are actually the first contact with the patients?! All these are question o!! I know say your blood dey hot, but can you please help provide answers to these questions.. Just for me to understand you a little bit better. R.I.P to the Doctor.. She died in the line of duty just like Soldiers die from Boko Haram for very very poor change money , Police die from Armed Robbers and more, LASTMA from bad drivers evading arrest, Drivers, Engineers, Pilots, Maiguard, e.t.c... phantom: ....... mentally deranged Nigerians. wholeheartedly defending a government that can't provide guns and bullets for its soldiers. You can EXAGGERATE our situation as much as you and others like you want. It does not change the FACT that the Jonathan/Sambo federal administration has done much better than their predecessors and those LIARS and PROPAGANDISTS jostling to replace them. To that extent, I am committed to supporting them as much as possible IF they decide to run for elections again next year so that the slow but STEADY progress we have since under their administration can continue. 2 Likes |

esere826: @ ifyclose2 Let me just say this.. If the Doctor had let Mr. Sawyer go after diagosing him with Ebola.. She would have lost her license and very likely go to jail. Its not a matter of intelligence, its a matter of DUTY!! There are certain illnesses that are on the high priority list and have a protocol that ALL doctors must follow when once the diagonose a patient with them. 3 Likes |

ifyclose2: I'm thinking of hiring a search team to search for the sense in this post....who is comparing d hazard allowances of d various professions? Don't these other professions have UNIONS that can fight for their entitlements? And u talk about pharmacists being exposed 2 patients and pharmaceutical waste!!!....I laugh...it's obvious you have never set foot in a govt hospital in Nigeria....doctors make d MOST-DIRECT contact with sick patients, including physically touching them during examinations. I wonder what risk could possibly be greater than this....if u repeat everything u have just written on Night of a Thousand Laughs, MTN or Etisalat will make you a comedy ambassador. My dear, I am not surprised you sounded the way you did. It it will take only a Dr that lacks sense of purpose to sit down and set himself ready for a "back-to-sender" response to every comment that does not align to your sick ideology. For your information, I am not giving you data bases on vendor-stand information. I trained in health management and policy abroad, and I have studied international comparisons of health policy. Saying that doctors are more in contact with biomedical hazards means 2 things: 1. you lack knowledge of the industry you are working, 2. you are like a man who is so used to telling lies to the point that he starts believing his own lies. The exposure matrix is the standard, and not what you think it should be. Talking about other unions holding govt by the neck to squeeze their own juice too. My brother, that confirmed what I initially thought about you, the "solidarity for-ever" type of public servant. The very type that has crippled our public service system. The greedy type that will alway ask "do you know how much govt officials are earning" to justify why they should also drain the public fund. If I sounded funny to you, hehe! know it is time to get rid of the substance spinning your head, definitely not my comments. In my grad school, I had colleagues from different parts of the world, Drs, and other professionals. I have a wider world view of health policy than the quassy ideas you are so proud of. I can engage you on debate on that until you go blank. Please get busy and leave debate for those who are well opinionated. 11 Likes |

phantom: We all face Hazards daily sir. Infact, Doctors are the most compensated in Nigeria amongst all those who truly are in the frontline of truly hazardous jobs. I pointed out how the Policeman who recieves really shiity pay to risk his neck and fight hardened die-hard criminal gets an NYSC doctors Salary as compensation if he gets shot in the line of duty.. BUT!!!! The worse part for the Nigerian Police Officer is that they cannot go on strike under the constitution because they are not allowed to be involved in Unionism. Soldiers as well.. A Government Doctor in Nigeria earns better than any other Civil Servant in Nigeria.. #FACT! And it wasnt an epistle, I simply wanted to understand if I was right that the OP just wants more money for Doctors because of the Hazard they face or if she really is concerned about the Overall well being of the health sector ahead of personal gains. 1 Like |

Show me anybody that works for nigerian government that is satisfied with the conditions of his or her service.. Doctors are not different from any other civil servant, lecturer, etc working for the government.. The conditions are bad we know but that doesn't change the fact that you guys are very heartless. We have soldiers in Borno earning 500naira per day in addition to obsolete and inadequate weapon to fight against insurgents driven by strange ideology and limitless amount of sophisticated weapons, so don't tell me about risk. With due respect to our nigerian hero, late Dr Stella (may her soul rip), but she wasn't the only health official who got infected. Do you mean to tell me the other hospital staff have better conditions of service than doctors? 5 Likes |
