THE Ekiti State government on Friday, announced the indefinite closure of a public primary school in Iworoko-Ekiti, following assault on some of the teachers by the people of the community over the furore generated by the newly-introduced Public School Feeding programme of the state government.

The chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prince Dayo Adeyeye made the announcement while on visit to the Community Nursey and Primary School (A), Iworoko-Ekiti, where some of the teachers were allegedly beaten by some irate mob over the new feeding arrangement, adding that the school would not be opened until the culprits were fished out by the community.

Reports in some of the national newspapers (not any of the Tribune titles) last Wednesday that the plastic cups and plates supplied for the feeding arrangement were laced with incisions had been causing panics among some parents in the state who are threatening to withdraw their children and wards from public schools in the state.

On Thursday, a Primary Three pupil of the Community Nursery and Primary School (A) in Iworoko-Ekiti, Adijat Bello was said to have fainted after a mid-day meal at school and was subsequently rushed to the nearby Basic Health Centre, where she was later revived by the nurse on duty.

However, the mother of the pupil was said to have rushed to town, alleging that her daughter started stooling and vomiting blood after eating the egg meal served by the school teachers on the instruction of the state government.

The alarm raised by the mother was said to have attracted other members of the community who, numbering about 30, stormed the school premises where the girl’s class-teacher, Mrs. Catherine Falade and the school’s Headteacher, Olori Victoria Aladejana were physically assaulted before they were rescued by their colleagues.

In the process, the clothes of Mrs. Falade were torn, while the ring-leader of the mob-attack, a pregnant woman, was arrested by the police but was immediately released to her father-in-law because of the stage of her pregnancy.

Ekiti state is unfortunately making a backwards name for itself in the areas of juju. Do they have nutritionist, nurses, and doctors at these schools? It's not uncommon to have children suffer some sort of allergic reaction to some food items.

Every children eating school lunch should be screened and questioned about allergies to peanut(groudnut)-the most common, eggs, milk, glutein, fish.
Did they do all that in Ekiti. I'm sorry for Ekiti, because many of my friends are from there, but maybe they should just cancel schooling for a few years, say 10-20 years- no schoolling, but intense juju excersis.

The northern states want to catch up, educationally, remember!

Allergy in Nigeria? Everything is juju in Naija.

If a rich man dies of anything at any age, somebody killed him. But if a poor man dies, na poverty kill am. The juju fraud was started to protect the few rich and powerful from the multitude commoners, and at its core was the threat of death.

Argue with a juju believer for one minutes, and he starts talking about how you may be killed by juju. Why? To try and put that fear in you, the fear that has invaded and disabled his mind.

So instead of raising alarm, calling 911, or rushing the the child to the doctor for benedryl or epinephrine, the stupid mother wasted her precious time calling other more stupid members of the community who not only endangered the child's health by wasting time attacking the principal. All in the name of juju?

In Nigeria?. again, she raised alarm, didn't she?

Even if they don't call 911, there's got to be a way of rushing your child to a doctor emergently, instead of looking to kill the witch.

The next thing now is for the parents to arm their children with juju in order to counter the effect of the imaginary one in their schools. The teachers better get ready for that.

Of all the mental afflictions that plague Africa, the fear of magic, hocus-pocus, the Evil Eye and voodoo is BY FAR the most prevalent and insidious, for this fear automatically disables the reasoning faculties of illiterates and "educated" people alike, turning them into little more than stampeding herds of wildebeest that break and run blindly into crocodile infested waters in response to every sudden sight, sound or hallucination their stunted minds perceive.
