Governor Tanko Al-Makura
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday said it would not be part of the security summit called by the state Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, to find a lasting solution to the incessant communal crises ravaging the state.
The meeting is scheduled for Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday (today).
The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Security and Special Duties, Mohammed Baba Ibaku, who made the position of the House known at a press briefing held at the Assembly Complex, blamed Al-Makura for being behind the crisis in the state.
He, however, maintained that members of the House of Assembly had decided not to take part in Al-Makura’s peace and security meeting, because the governor had refused to honour House resolutions on security issues in the state.
According to him, the governor had told members of the House of Assembly to concentrate on the business of lawmaking and stay away from security issues, because security is not the business of the members.
He said, “The House resolved categorically that we are not going to attend that meeting. The governor planned, incubated and hatched the crisis; you cannot impregnate a woman and denied the child. Let him face it.’’
Ibaku asserted that rather than attend Al-Makura’s peace and security meeting, they would rather go to their constituencies to preach peace.
He blamed the crisis on the non-implementation of the Anti-Thuggery Law, passed by the House. He said that the governor stubbornly refused to give assent to the law, which according to him, could have prevented unnecessary crises in the state.
He also accused the governor of appointing two Fulani people into the government.
