Police officers in Rongo are looking for a couple who threw their new born baby boy in a pit latrine at Lwala village, Kameji area on Saturday.

The woman then lied to her mother-in-law that she had a miscarriage.

Rongo OCPD, Catherine Irungu, while confirming the inhuman act said the suspect told her mother-in-law that she had a miscarriage while in the latrine. She faked everything and even cried to show her pain.

However, the mother-in-law suspected something was not adding up because the 21 year old daughter didn't show any sign of labour pain. She was not bleeding either and took her to Lwala Health Center for tests.

The results showed that the woman had given birth because she didn't have a placenta even though she was complaining of abdominal pain.

Back at home, the husband secretly fished the infant from the latrine and hurriedly buried the body even raising more suspicion from villagers who alerted the police immediately.

The woman and the husband however escaped before the police arrested them and a manhunt for them is underway.
