Taraba Governor Suntai Stuck Abroad Again; Taraba Exco Requests Panel To Assess His Medical Fitness
Taraba State governor Danbaba Suntai, who suffered brain injuries in a 2012 air crash, is stuck in Wellington Hospital in London with his inner circle. The group had hoped to bring him back him back to Nigeria on September 9, but he has failed to improve sufficiently and appears incapable of governing the state.
Earlier on Thursday, 11 of the 13 members of the executive council wrote to the Taraba House of Assembly asking for an investigation into the medical condition of the governor in order to determine his physical and mental capacity to resume work as governor. The letter was submitted to the Speaker, Josiah Sabo Kente.

Several months after he was flown to the United Kingdom by a cabal in the state that had used the ailing governor to stall the transfer of power to his deputy, Garba Umar, Mr. Suntai’s status remains precarious.

The group had first returned the governor to Nigeria from the United States in August of 2013 to the consternation of Nigerians as he could neither walk unaided, nor speak. Upon arrival at the airport in Abuja, he was assisted out of the aircraft, and appeared to be unfocused and confused. A member of his team told SaharaReporters at that time that upon arrival in Abuja, Suntai had asked them where he was.

The current attempts to have him return from London may not be different, according to sources. They say the governor, who was flying the aircraft when it went down, has not improved much. His inner circle however seems determined to use him to regain political relevance in the State.
