glaucoma is the 2nd leading cause of blindness worldwide and it is hereditary and arises as a result of sustained increase in intraocular pressure..it affects the ganglion cells of the retina down 2 the optic nerve..glaucoma really has no cure but can be managed wen detected early..once someone is diagnosed of glaucoma,d person needs 2 be placed on life time drugs,as this will help to reduce or minimize the rate of damage to the ganglion cells..4urgery known as trabeculectomy is indicated if the anterior chamber is narrow, but dis can't bring about or restore the patient's vision..but if the patient sticks to his/her drugs and uses them regularly, the remaining vision can be preserved..pls he shud be urgently attended 2..tanx
tnx pls can u recomend me the best eye drops and medicine

Hello doc,, I have always heard that, after a year of using glasses for correction, the refractive error in the eyes become corrected i.e, I don't necessary need to use glasses for correction again. Please how true is this because I have been using grasses for more than 2years now and no changes in the eyes, its like It's getting worse, I don't just understand.
Also, can it be corrected through suggery? If yes, what are the chances of not having a permanently damaged eye?

I has this problem since my tender age. When am in university, if I don't seat on from roll I can't seat anything written on the board. Before I can see I need to close my eyes small.
And my major problem is that I don't see most things on television. Example I only dictate people playing match with their jersey. I don't see the names neither do I see the time. I always ask my friends what time is it on tv.
Also if I try forcing my eyes to see I get discharge. My eyes itch me like everyday.
Most times I have tried visiting eye clinics but crown scares me away.

Op...I started seeing floaters in my eyes then I went for examination. The 1st doc said I have glacouma, the second one said it's ocular pressure which may lead to glaucoma if left untreated. So i took treatments which reduced the pressure from 29 to 16 and the pressure never went up again even after stopping the drugs for 6 months. Am I still at risk? ..and which of the doctors were correct. I understand that i have to be going for regular eye examination but how often? Thank you for this thread.
increase in intraocular pressure is different 4rm galucoma, although increase IOP is a risk factor for glaucoma..glaucoma is said to be present if there is cupping of the optic disc, and if the patient has restricted visual field..so you don't av glaucoma if only the presure was confirmed 2 be high..wot u ve wil be ocular hypertension wil can lead 2 glaucoma if not immediately treated..so u nid 2 goin 4 routine eye examination 2 know if the presure is within the normal range...tanx

Usually, if the glaucoma is advanced we do recommend combine therapy. However that will depend on the result of the glaucoma assessment. Although I can give u some name of glaucoma drugs but that would not be helpful. The best thing is to be under the management of a glaucoma specialist like an opthalmologist. So that the treatment n drugs can be closely monitored and his pressure/ visual field assessed regularly. That's the only way to know if the Drugs are working.

The two doctors said basically the same thing. Since the pressure is down now, do u still have the floaters When last did you check the pressure?

The last time I checked was about 5 months ago. The floaters are still their but the docs said it does not mean anything that they will clear with with time. Personally, I think the floaters are due to consumption of alcohol. I am not very worried about the floaters because, I still see very clearly without glasses and I didnt loose any peripheral vision. Please, is every ocular pressure related to glacuma? That name scares the hell out of me.

I am an Eye doctor, I discovered through clinical experience that most Patients don't really know about some basic things and problems affecting the eyesn and these has led to simple eye problems being seen as complicated and frightening to most patients and they don't really know how to go about it. There are some eye problems that are hereditary, which requires normal routine eye examinations but due to ignorance most patients tend to lose their sight to eye problems that could have been prevented. I want to use this opportunity to enlighten us and provide solutions to problems affecting the eyes,in line with WHO Vision 2020-Right to sight for all, so all questions concerning the eyes are welcomed
Dear doc, (dis ur name tho) I am short sighted (can't see far objects clearly), I don't use glasses, my eye are very itchy and it produces...ehm those whitish or milkish...ehm mucor(if dats d name) frequently which made me form a habit of putting my hands in d eye always tryna remove em. Wot do I do to stop d itchiness and frequent mucor production and also make it whiter. Thanks

Glasses DOESN'T cure refractive errors. The corrections is ONLY while you are wearing the glasses. When you remove ur glasses, the eye is back to as it was. So u will need to use your glasses always for clarity and comfort. About the surgery, what type of refractive errors are u having

She need to be assessed. That lens may have cataracts due to the trauma. She need to do a detailed eye examination.

This was exactly what the second doctor said. The first doctor and his crew were just getting me scared as if I will be blind the next day. They even gave me a bill of 10k immidiately and told me to come back next month. I started feeling they want to open office for my head after paying series of 7k and 8k every month. The pressure never went up again since then and I have stopped using the drugs. Is it likely to go up again with time, and how often should I go for these examinations.

No ma. Its not normal. Aside from dust and smoke, are there other things that cause such eye reactions?

good day, difficulty seeing distance objects is mainly cause by refractive error and in some cases pathology..I wil advise u 2 visit an eye clinic 4 proper diagnosis and treatment plan..the discharge is as a result of infections and I wil advise u not 2 use ur hands 2 remove it anymore, hence, try use a clean tissue or handkerchief and always wash ur eyes after touching ur eyes,so as not 2 spread it 2 oda persons..u can get gentamycin or chloramphenicol eye drop 4 the main time and use 2drops 3x daily b4 visiting an eye clinic...tanx

I was struck in my eye with a metal object about a month ago.

Its healed and though the sight is not perfect as it used to be (I sometimes have to close the eye to focus better with the other and sudden eye movement takes time to focus).

The main concern is a flash of light.......like light caught in a drop of water that flashes past a corner of my sight at intervals. Its quite distracting.

Pls, What could it be??

Ocular pressure is one major risk factor for glaucoma but it doesn't mean every high ocular pressure is glaucoma. Some pressure can be low and the eye can still dev glaucoma. Secondly alcohol doesn't cause floaters. Floaters indicates that something is not so right inside the eye. It might not be serious tho. So answer this 3 Questions. 1. Do u see sudden flashes of light. 2. Are the floaters increasing at a fast rate. 3. Do u have pain?

Dear drsteroid and jauntty

I'm a 19 year old dude, early dis year, i started having eye floaters, it started from a single black/dark floater on my right eye, now i have few floaters on both eyes. This is both alarming and depressing considering my age (teenager.) Please what can be done about this? Thanks a lot.

mine started at 24...someone told me it's due to alcohol intake, do you also drink?

I went for an eyes test some years ago and I was told that there is a growth in my two eyes. The doctor called the name dheridium.but he suggested an operation which is somehow risky to me. Which drugs or eye drop can u recommend because I don't want knives in my two eyes.
