Dear First Love,

That first love, 17 and stupid.
Blind to the truth, only turned sour before
it ever began.
I knew, knew it would last long, knew it was
only a game for you, someone to relieve
your tensions.
You gone now, I can’t remember what it
was like, you let me go (dumped me in a
clever way) yet I couldn’t hate you. You
kept me in the dark, hid me from the light.
You lied to me, led me on, deceived me,
strung me along, still I loved you, though
couldn’t trust you.
You, still a child yet to mature, though
legal.
We became friends, you wanted me ‘close’
to remind you of your conquests, I
remained close, with a lot of distance. I
wished so many things, though deep down
I knew it would never be the same. I was a
sad case, I protected my feelings for you,
never gave them away or let them out.
You’d always preach about being a hard
nut to crack, I only just realised how much I
knew about you; you gave nothing, yet I
knew you.
You couldn’t bear that I got over you, you
became depressed, I’m sure you cried, I
know you did. You always were emotional, I
always saw it, no matter how you tried to
hide it. Your world became dark when I left,
stupid fool! You just realised that.
You pretend not to care what people think
of you, but deep down you do care. You go
out of your way to be nice, too nice to a
fault, you not tough one bit, still you
weren’t sincere with me. I have moved on,
and now all I wish for is to see you bleed
and cry and hurt.
You were always the Goody two-shoes, the
generous giver, self-righteous and pious to
the world, deep inside you wished you
were something else, dark and cold.
