A non-governmental organisation, the Christian Conscience Group, has called for the emergence of a Christian as the next governor of Lagos State in the 2015 general elections.

National Chairman of the CCG, Chief Enoch Ajiboso, said this at the inauguration of the Lagos-East senatorial district of the organisation on Thursday, according to a statement.

Ajiboso, while calling on Christians to actively participate in politics because it was not an ungodly act, called on public office holders across all levels to shun corruption and put the welfare of the people they are serving ahead of all other things.

He said, “The CCG is a non-governmental movement clamouring for the mass participation of Christians in politics and demanding justice and fair play. Our main aim is to ensure that we have a Christian governor in Lagos State next year. This is our short term objective as a pressure group. It is not an agitation but a sort of plea to garner support for what we believe should be the case.

“The Muslims are calling the shots because when it comes to political participation, they are more active. If you are not in there, you should not complain.

People cannot be complaining without taking part in politics. That is why we are sensitising people that it is not ungodly to actively participate in politics. If politics is dirty, Christians should come out to wash and clean it.”

National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Sam Ogedengbe, said the CCG was not concerned with endorsing any candidate ahead of the poll but rather their interest was to see a devoted Christian emerge the next governor of the state and serve the people equitably.

“We are not a political party but an NGO, so we do not have a candidate that we will showcase. We don’t believe in this, our belief is to task the government on things we think should be done. God has been on our side and we have been making significant progress,” he said.
