Abana, said on Friday that a girl, suspected to be one of
the abducted Chibok schoolgirls and abandoned by the
Boko Haram terrorists in Adamawa, is in
military custody.
Mr. Abana told PREMIUM TIMES that the girl, who
identified herself as Suzanna Ishaya, is receiving
medical attention in a police hospital in Yola, under
the supervision of the Nigeria Army.
Mr. Abana said reports that the girl was already four-
month pregnant is not an issue for the Chibok
community, although stigmatisation might set in. He
said the most important thing is that the girl was
found alive.
“She’s in a police hospital in Yola, under the
supervision of the army. Even the pregnancy issue, we
don’t want to talk about it because of the
stigmatisation. The most important thing is that she is
alive,” Mr. Abana said.
Mr. Abana confirmed that the girl wandered in the
forest for about three days before she was found in a
village near Mubi, Adamawa State.
He said the girl identified herself as Suzanna Ishaya.
He, however, could not verify the girl’s age.
When asked if any of the parents in Chibok have been
able to identify Suzanna as theirs, Mr. Abana said the
GSM network has been a challenge.
“No, we have been calling them but there’s no network
completely at Chibok, so we can’t say that any parent
have confirmed that the girl found (Suzanna), is their
daughter,” he said.
He also said he was hopeful that in the next two or
three days, he would be able to contact the parents for
more information.
Over 250 girls were abducted from their dormitory in
Government Secondary School Chibok, Borno State, by
the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists group in April.
While about 50 of the girls have managed to escape
from their abductors, others still remain in captivity.
It is not clear if the girl, Suzanna, escaped like the
other girls or she was freed and abandoned by the
group.
