The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has berated the Governor Kayode Fayemi-led  All Progressives Congress for allegedly sponsoring  another suit in an Abuja High Court  by proxy, seeking an injunction  to stop the swearing-in of the state Governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on October 16.

The party posited that the new dimension the issue has taken and the alleged step taken by the APC had again confirmed its position that the ruling party is desperate to stall the inauguration of the governor-elect, having lost out in the governorship election.

In a statement in Ado-Ekiti by the state  PDP Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, the party noted that well-meaning Ekiti people and Nigerians should note that the APC and its allies were bent on fomenting trouble in the state.

The party was reacting  to the suit no FHC/Abuja/ CS 709/14 between Young Democratic Party vs INEC, Fayose, Others.

A socio-political pressure group in the state, E-11 had also filed similar suit against Fayose at the state High Court, which trial had elicited so much controversies in the state, leading to alleged invasion of the Ado-Ekiti High Court on September 21 and the harassment of the trial judge, Justice Segun Ogunyemi, by party supporters.

Commenting on the new development, which the party said was targeted at causing mayhem in the state, the PDP said: “The PDP has again been vindicated about our earlier alertness on the desperation of the ruling APC in the state to use the judiciary to truncate democracy in Nigeria as the party has now rushed to Abuja to file another ex-parte motion to stop the swearing in of the governor-elect on October 16.

“This is a confirmation of our earlier alarm and submission that the APC which gallantly lost the gubernatorial election on June 21 was desperate to scuttle democracy in the state through the back door judicial process.

“This new, strange and desperate step by the APC ruling government has clearly demonstrated that the APC is an unrepentant enemy of democracy, which is prepared to do anything and buy the judiciary.

“Despite the fact that the E-11 suit is still pending and the election tribunal is also pending, the fundamental question is “why does APC have to jettison the two pending cases in the state and had to run to Abuja to file another suit still on the same matter?

“It is our candid advice that some of our judges should not be willing tools in the hands of the political desperado. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man and should live up to expectation so that our nascent democracy would not be truncated.

Fayemi should swallow his bloated ego driven pride. He got to be governor not directly from any election and so I understand why he wants to seek the same judiciary to subvert an overwhelming electorate decision to reject him.

Al Gore would have overturned his loss to George Bush based on fraudulent Florida vote counting but he (Gore) withdrew the suit that it may set a precedence where the judiciary lords over the electorate.

Obviously in Nigeria today, corrupt politicians have exploited the corrupt elements and weakness in the judiciary to their advantage and no other party has benefited most from this abuse than the APC.

I really hate dis party called APC. A party dat doesnt respect d voice of d people and still claimin to be beta dan pdp. Fayose beat d incubent governor in all d available 16 local govt area of d state which is unusuall in any party of d country. Ekiti ppl really want fayose but apc doesnt care abt wot ppl want. Why will the PDP parade an unqualified candidate for the election? In a sane society, the PDP, INEC and other screening agencies, including the President who danced kokoma with the candidate will be issuing sincere apologies to the citizenry.

The APC have channeled their grievances to the right entity, the Judiciary and they are tagged as enemies of democracy for this appropriate gesture. It is pertinent to let the court decide accordingly. One positive attribute of the present administration has been the independence of the Judiciary to an appreciable extent.

The Ekiti case is as simple as the Adamawa case. Closed!
