Protest In Spain Over Killing Of Ebola Carrier Dog. by Segadem(m): 10:42am On Oct 09, 2014
Health authorities in Spain have put to death the
dog of a nurse infected with the Ebola virus in
Madrid, sparking protests from animal rights
groups.
Activists scuffled with police outside her home as
the dog was taken away.
The nurse, Teresa Romero, is the first person
known to have contracted the deadly virus
outside West Africa.
She had treated two missionaries who later died
from Ebola. The virus has killed 3,879 people,
mostly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
A court order to euthanise Ms Romero’s dog was
issued on Tuesday despite uncertainty over
whether the animal was also infected or risked
spreading the disease.
On Wednesday about 50 animal rights activists
held a protest outside the nurse’s home in
Madrid, shouting “assassins”.
Two protesters were hurt when they tried to stop
the van in which the animal was being
transported, El Pais newspaper reported.
The fate of the dog, named Excalibur, sparked
huge interest on social networks, after Ms
Romero’s husband, who like her is being kept in
isolation in a hospital, alerted animal protection
groups via social networks.

Which is more important, animal's life or human's life? Instead of them to join hands in preventing the virus from spreading they were fighting for animal's right.

Let's be critical about the Spanish decision.
1. Ebola is deadly.
2. We have little control on animals.
3. The dog cannot be quarantine easily.
4. There is a high likelihood that strangers will play with the dog.
5. If human can run away from isolation wards, dogs can do worse.

1)Yes, ebola is deadly
2) Not true for a tamed house-dog in Europe, maybe possible with Nigeria/African local dogs!
3)The dog can be quaratined more easily than humans, with chains and cages!
4) how can strangers play with properly quaratined dog.
5) with heavy chains and strong cage, how can the dog run away? Lions are kept in zoos, in cages and they hardly run away, except on rare occassions which are mostly due to human negligence.
We are talking about only one dog here, or have they started putting down all dogs in Spain?
If they fail to study this one house-dog, how will they handle hundreds of roaming street-dogs?
