JAkpayen:Exactly, you on point. The engineers of our generation are not driven by passion or interest for the job rather driven by comfort e.g fat salary. Am afraid it will only get worse as long as we continue to have wrong people for the engineering profession. 2 Likes |

tooltip: Not exactly, those could be programmes under the group activity. let me give an example ok some one has an invention in mind. Others have ideas to better it, if a group like that existed they could work on it togetherbeing funded by their on pockets and sponsorship form tech coys. Like you could even send your selves on courses to increase your knowledge. Then what you said, That could be during training week to help younger ones in that areas, or to discover new concepts. I think what we need as a nation to develop those sectors of Engineering is mainly investment, once the investors come into the country, Nigerian will be made to taking up key positions in those firms with time they will develop competence in those sectors and will move from those companies to setup their own similar firms, there is no need to re-event the wheel. On the part of youths we need to take education more serious and develop a technological culture and reduce our appetite for foreign made goods I think the government is on the right direction with the policy on cement, auto manufacturing more sectors need policies like that, we also need to give very attractive incentive to major manufacturing giants to come and setup of industries and R and D centers,The government should also take the issue of funding for education very seriously. China and India are shinning example mainly because of huge investment from the US, Europe and other developed counties. 1 Like |

Cutehector4u:lool, I understand your anger but it wasn't necessary. I just viewed the post from the angle of a Drilling engineer, only the high blood pressure associated with delivering a well successfully warrants him requesting for a 5m monthly salary. 2 Likes |

bushdoc9919: Trust me sweetheart, leadership is everything. Human beings are essentially like sheep, we all like to think we are different but all we do is follow the herd. Hitler, Franklin, Bello, Awolowo, Ojukwu, Babangida, Steve Jobs..........all leaders who changed the fortune of millions. There can only be bad follower-ship if good leadership is present, in the latter's absence, there is only follower-ship. |

naijababe:Thank you oh! Cutehector4u:1. The amount there is just an assumption and not a fact. 2. That is the mentality some undergraduates have. 3. I appealed and said 'if there's anything I am ignorant about in the above write-up, please, do correct me as I am still acquiring knowledge'. |

iCool:icool thank u pls...i really really got annoyed ..i dnt hav to mince word cuz i hav worked in an oil company befor and i was in a position whr it was do or die....dr was this job my colleagues and i were to undertake..well as we were carryin it out, the job objective is to take a water hydrant hose, the hose is big in diameter and flush a line of crude oil pumps ..u knw wen these grease hav accumulated around d area, u need a very high pressure water to flush it out unless it wont go out...as soon as one of my cooleagues unlockrd the water hydrant, d force with whch it came out almost threw me on the floor as i was holding the nozzle of the hose pointin towards the pump.....lol i git so scared and thankd my God dat i ddnt fall..den two other coleagues came to join me in holdin the nozzle cuz it was too heavy ...even as we were three holdn it, we couldnt still move forward cuz we were all struggling and usin all the nergy in our bodies to move here and thr flushin the pump area..... By the tym we were true, all the food in my body and energy got drained i swear...all ov us got so tired and what use our walkie talkie to call a hilux driver frm our section to come pick us up... So the kind of jobs we do at oil and gas section isnt wat some persons wil come and say "sit down in office" i want to believe maybe that the oerson who wrote this text has little pr no experience,,. |

First the regulatory bodies of engineering in Nigeria is a waste especially the so called NSE that does not know more dan collecting money from Nigerians and forgetting why they were created in the first place. Secondly am an engineer in the power sector and I must say government no try, no motivation, no training, poor salary. I schooled in the UK and I know how very attractive the Power jobs are. The government is only paying attention to oil and one day that oil go finish and we would see what next. We need a government for the future that can harness the potentials of very bright Nigerians not dem PDP that are enriching demselves 3 Likes |

Cutehector4u:Will do. Thank you! naijareferee:1. Nope. Still attend a conventional school 2. I have. 3. Asides lack of innovation, the motivation is not there. 4. Nope. The government has not. That friend of yours, I wish he had pasted his work here. He may have been noticed. ezme:Who be you? For the second bolded, I once had that mentality but after my Industrial Training with the NN and researches into the field, the mentality had to die down. That was when I realized the potentials in the various fields. For the third bolded, thanks for that. It's just that as an undergraduate, you get to hear funny things from fellow coursemates. Thanks all the same. |

The said lady has not provided a link to anywhere it was written since I challenged her to. |

freshjayy: See that's where the real problem lies... Our over-depence on govt for everything!!!. Let me ask you one question, What do you think the scholarship programs being awarded to undergraduates by private/public bodies are meant for After collecting the massive scholarship funds from these bodies what does the beneficiaries do with it?....they spend it lavishly on other unrelated areas and wait for the next one the following year. So u see my friend, the youths are not helping also. Not everything in the land that we'll blame the govt for. 4 Likes |
