"immortality of the soul is a Greek notion formed in ancient mystery cults and elaborated by the philosopher Plato" - Prebysterian Life, May 1, 1970, p.35. ... With this knowledge, lets see what happen when the Apostle Paul tried preaching Ressurection to the GREEK in Anthens , the bible explain what happen this way " Now while Paul was waiting for them in Anthens ... They took hold of him and led him to Areopagus, Saying 'Can we get to know what this new teaching(resurection) is that you are speaking in our about? For you are introducing some things new to our ears'" So paul speaks "... God ... Has provided a guarantee to all men by ressurecting Him ( Jesus) From dead" Act 17:16-31 !! The DRAMA UNFOLD in vrs 32 "Now when they heard of a resurection of the dead, some began to scoff, while others said 'we will hear you again about this' !! d future promise of Resurection sound foolish to the greeks who believe they av an imortal soul, nwadays churches advocate dis same pagan doctrine

The Greek Philosopher,Plato had a deep interest in life after death. The book "Body and soul in Ancient Philosophy" says that "the immortality of the soul is one of plato's favourite topics." He was firmly convinced that "the soul outlives its present incarnation, to be duly rewarded or punished" in the afterlife, based on how the person lived while on earth. During the nine centuries that plato's Academy functioned, from 387 BCE to 529 CE, it was highly influential. Platonic thoughts became popular in lands dominated by Greece and Rome. "The Anchor Bible Dictionary" says "All Christian theology is dependent, to an extent at least, on contemporary Greek philosophy, primarily Platoism. Plato said: "At death, that which is the real self of each of us, and which we term the immortal soul, departs to the presence of other gods there...to render account - a prospect to be faced with courage by the good, but with uttermost dread by the evil". - Plato-Laws, Book XII. The Bible howeve, says the soul is the person himself or the life that he enjoys. Even animals are souls. At death, the soul ceases to exist. Consider the following scriptures: "The first man Adam became a living soul" - 1cor 15:45 "The soul that is sinning-it itself will die" - Ezekiel 18:4 1 Like |

Maybe the word translated into Soul in hebrew (nephesh) is not the same word as that translated into soul in Plato's greek. Maybe they mean different things and it is just a coincidence that they are both translated as soul. |

PastorAIO: Good insight ! ... They are not the same . Greek /physke/ and hebrew /nephe'sh/ translated soul refers to a creature that breathes . In Gen 2:7 ... Scripture says " the man became a livin /nephe'sh/ soul" ..... It refers directly to d creature Adam. 1 Cor 15:45 also agrees with this in the use of /psykhe/ It also refers to animals ;Lev 24:17,18 "the fatal striker of the soul /nephesh/of an animal should make compensation for it" . In some context .. It denotes " life as a creature" An angel of God appeared to joseph in matt 2:20 saying "for those . Seekin the /psykhe/ life of the young child are dead" When God said "my soul"Isa 42:1,He was actually sayin "myself" or "my person" NOT som platonic myth |
