Frankie9ice: Truly, she has not ply that road. I ply that road some years back for a wedding. Drove all the way from port Harcourt and the story was not a funny one indeed. lost my tire, my radiator, A/C compressor and the list is just endless. A terrible experience indeed. Am just toooo surprise seeing this same road in more deplorable state today. what baffled me is the farming prospect that i saw but from left and right and weep further for my north for its derailment and dependent on OIL when you have good progress base as ur door steps. PDP, is such a funny party and government with full deceit features in all its actions/project. ONNE road in port Harcourt is bad (terribly bad). Rather than Federal government fixing that road, they are doing busy body contributing 250 million for market that is State government's responsibility to build, promising to build girl's secondary school in Eleme when the state government has built an ultra modern school in same place. This funny o!... Heeee Deeeee Heeeee 2 Likes |

Interestingly, the only chunk still motorable between Ilorin and Kaduna today is the Tegina-Kaduna chunk PTF had worked on. PTF never completed the work when democracy ushered in Obj. With PDP, it was never completed. Interestingly, Jebba-Saadu-Olooru-Eiyenkorin was built by FERMA around 2003. One will keep asking if there ever was a road there. Also, the highly celebrated "kona mutua" repairs with bridge construction comes to mind too. Cherie-picked poor quality intervention - All! PDP has failed us in its entirety! 2 Likes |

Point of correction; 85% of d issue with the ilorin-jebba-mokwa-makera road is with the ilorin-jebba stretch. In fairness to d minister, 90% of d jebba-mokwa stretch is very motorable. Last friday, oct 17th, I left ibadan for sokoto by road, at 9pm on d dot. Driving myself. There are 2 routes by road 2 sokoto frm ibdn/lagos; 1. Ibadan-Oyo-ogbomoso-ilorin-jebba-makera-kontagora-yauri-jega-sokoto (880km/550miles max) 2. Ibadan-akure-akungba-okene-lokoja-gwagwalada-kaduna-zaria-funtua-gusau-sokoto (1250km/781.25miles max) Of cos route 2 is d better road, by far!!! because of traffic gridlock caused by trailers I got 2 ogbomoso ard 11pm, ilorin by 12 midnyt. From ilorin I drove thru oke oyi to bide saadu and arrived bode saadu by 1.10am (ie I avoided d ilorin-jebba straight road 4 a merry go round thru oke oyi because of d condition of dt road). Bode saadu 2 jebba is at most 20km,.....but I covered dt distance in 2hrs 20mins,.....got 2 jebba at 3.30am. My vehicle didnt brake down, it rarely does. But menh,....ilorin-jebba is easily the worst federal road in thus country. Wats on dt road makes lokoja-okene pot holes child's play. But then, d bitter truth is, govt aint gonna fix dt road. Y? The luxurious life of a fleet of presidential jets n presidential choppers wont let dem know our roads r bad!!! Last week monday, 13th oct, I drove abuja-ibdn ovanyt,....left gwagwalada ard 10pm. Ard 5am at ife, dt roundabt after d oduduwa university 2wards ibadan, ....I ran into a pothole dt split my front passenger side alloy rim into two,....yea, into 2 unequal halves. In the midst of Gej's profligacy, d roads rehabilitation dt his govt is doing is at best pathetic, ....considering the resources available to him. 1 Like |

that road, 2012 october, when there was flooding in lokoja, my husband and his people plied that root to come marry me. they got to suleja past 3am on saturday morning since around 8am fri that they left southwest. that road is a death trap. sorry to say. this present govt is leading in misinformation as i watched an advert on ait of gej saying the best president with great security on ground. i weep for nigeria. obajana kabba road is another death trap. its completely out. these poliyicians are wicked. imagine before last election, some of the aspirant scrapped the roads (tarred but having porthiles) inside suleja saying they want to renovate, up till now they havnt done anything. infact yhey have succeeded in damaging the road we were managing. aba -ikot ekpene is another one, i served in ak ib 09/10. mhen i do pity icar owners then. esp with the constant rainfall in that region. u can imagine a car will park, use leg to follow the mini river (porthole), to know the suitable place to pass with his car, go back and move with the car, park and fetch water out of his car, continue and do same till the finally reach a good place. walahi i wish God can judge people immediately. 2 Likes |

This thread brought back the memories of my service year. Served in ZURU kebbi state 2012. This same road has been under construction even before that time. Felt like FG have neglected people plying that road cause it is long overdue. The funniest part is that you'll find more heavy duty trucks on that road towards sokoto route. For me ooo. This road is still better than kotangora-Rijau via gulunmi-boka then to zuru and to Gunmi. If you should ply that road your life will never be the same. There is no way you could do 40Km/hr on this road and its like 120km or more from kotangora to zuru. I think the FG should consider do something about all north western roads. If you are going to sokoto the best route is through kaduna-zaria-funtua-gusau road. Anything other than this. Just prepare to visit a doctor when you scale through. |

FEC approves N42 billion for rehabilitation of Ilorin-Kabba road, others November 27, 2013Talatu Usman The roads are in different states of Nigeria. The Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, on Wednesday approved contracts worth over N42 billion for the rehabilitation of roads across different states of the federation. The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, stated this while briefing journalists after the weekly FEC meeting chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan. He said the approvals followed a memo brought by the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen. Mr. Maku said the council approved four contracts for the rehabilitation of three federal roads in Kogi/Kwara, Bauchi/ Plateau and Adamawa states and dualisation of one federal road in Kano State. According to a working document of the FEC share to journalists, “Council approved the award contract for the rehabilitation of Ilorin-Omuaran-Kabba road in Kwara/Kogi states in the sum of N8,217,373,106.17 (Eight Billion, Two Hundred and Seventeen Million, Three Hundred and Seventy-three thousand, one hundred and six Naira, Seventeen kobo) with a completion period of 36 months. “Council also approved the award of contract for the dualisation of Kano- Katsina road phase 1: Kano town at Dawanau roundabout Katsina state border in Kano state in the sum of N14,078,252,565.88 ( fourteen billion, seventy eight million, two hundred nd fifty two thousand, five hundred and sixty five Naira, Eighty-eight kobo) with a completion period of 30 months.” “Council also approved the award of contract for the rehabilitation of Tumu- Pindiga-Kashere (Gombe state)- Futuk- Yalo (Bauchi state) Bashar-Dengi (Plateau state road : construction of Yalo-Bashar- Dengi Section) in Bauchi state/Plateau state, in the sum of N3,076,381,622.74 ( Three billion, seventy six million, three hundred and eighty one thousand, six hundred and twenty two Naira, seventy four kobo) with a completion period of 18 months.” “After deliberations, Council approved the award of contract No.6210 for the rehabilitation of Ilorin-Jebba- Mokwa- Birnin- Gwari- Kaduna road section 1.” “The other is the Ilorin- Jebba (93.6KM long single carriage way) in Kwara state I. Favour of Messrs CGC Nig. limited in the sum of N14, 587,233, 292.17 with completion period of 24 months”....For those plying the route, please since the road has been awarded, is the contractor totally not on site because according to daily trust on their 22/08/14 feature on that actually inspected the work on site! so please am confused slightly..... THE NIGHTMARE CALLED JEBBA/ MOKWA FEDERAL HIGHWAY Category: Star feature Published on Friday, 22 August 2014 05:01 Written by Abdullateef Aliyu, Ilorin Hits: 1903 A damaged portion of the road. For motorists plying the EiyenKorin/ Jebba/Mokwa federal highway in Kwara State, the road has become a death trap and a hell for travellers. Our correspondent, who recently made a tour of the area, reports. Over the years, the all-important highway has remained the only access road for northerners travelling southwards and vice-versa, especially those going on business trips. It is the road with a high concentration of articulated vehicles and trucks conveying goods or fuel from Lagos and other states in the south-west to the north. Over 80 per cent of vehicles plying the highway are heavy duty vehicles. It is also the easiest and most accessible road for travellers from Kwara State going to Jebba , or Mokwa in Niger State, and other states in the north. However, due to the deteriorating state of the road, travellers from Ilorin have to divert to the alternative road between Share and Babanloma in Ifelodun Local Government. But the alternative road according to commercial drivers shuttling Mokwa and Jebba, is too long to travel along. This is the alternative they have had to contend with, as the easier route to Jebba and Mokwa along the expressway is in a decrepit state. It is damaged and already worn out with ditches in almost every section of the road. The badly affected portions of the road which is estimated at over 60 kilometers , stretches from Olooru to Bode Saadu ,and Jebba in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara state. Apart from the articulated vehicles which normally ply the road , despite its present state, many small vehicles especially those on commercial trips, have deserted the area. Motorists around the area told our correspondent that only few cars which ply the road often break down before they get to their destination, due to the poor condition of the highway. For the motorists, it has been a running battle with armed robbers, who reportedly terrorize them and attack easily since they move slowly, in order to avoid the ditches and potholes which define the road. Apart from motorists who make a living plying the road, residents of nearby villages and communities, say the road has slowed down economic activities in the areas. Some commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders) who spoke to our correspondent at Bode Saadu, headquarters of Moro Local Government, also lamented that the state of the highway constitutes a setback to the community. “The youths here are jobless. Farmers could not easily move their farm produce to places like Ilorin, Jebba and other towns to sell”, says an Okada rider, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity. Commercial drivers at Jebba/Mokwa park at Shao Garage in Ilorin, also share their experience with Daily Trust. Vice- Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mokwa- Jebba park, Mr. Dauda Adio Olorunwa ,disclosed that the road became dilapidated during the past 12 years. He said, “Our vehicles have stopped plying the road. We now travel to Jebba and Mokwa through Oke Oyi, which is a long route. But we cannot risk going to Olooru road, despite the fact that it is shorter to get to Jebba ,because of the fear of robbery attacks. Three days ago, some of our vehicles were attacked along the road by armed robbers. They collected phones and money of our passengers. If the road had been fixed probably we would have avoided the bandits. It was easier for them to rob because of the condition of the road.” He called on the government to intervene in fixing the road, arguing that putting the road in better shape would alleviate their sufferings. “We even made a suggestion that government should build the road and introduce toll gates. We are ready to pay but we have continued to suffer along the road. So, we appeal to the federal government to do something immediately on this road. This is one of the basic infrastructural needs of the masses, just like water and electricity,” the transporter added. Asked on the alternative road, Olorunwa said, “That road is not bad, but it is a long route to Jebba with a lot of bends and slopes. The rate of accidents there is very high, and if you notice it, trucks have also diverted to the road.” He was corroborated by his counterpart in the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Saka Kareem. He also appealed to the government to come to their aid in order to boost their income. One of the drivers, Ayoola Abdulfatah, who had an encounter with armed robbers two days before our correspondent visited the park, also narrated his ordeal, describing his experience as “traumatizing.” He said, “We were coming from Kotangora in Niger State, when we suddenly came across the armed bandits on the road. At gunpoint, they ordered us out of the car and we were asked to lie face down while they dispossessed us of our items. They collected my blackberry phone and Nokia as well as all the money I had with me. Also, they collected over N700,000 from my passengers ,who were all Hausa traders going for business.” Abdulfatah who is a University graduate, disclosed that he joined the transport business because he is unemployed , adding, “As a family man, I thought I should not remain idle. So I came to this park, but it has not been easy plying this road. We plead with the federal government to do something urgent on this road.” The Daily Trust correspondent who toured the Olooru-Jebba-Mokwa road, observed many articulated drivers struggling to navigate the road. Some vehicles broke down in the process while others somersaulted. There was also a terrific traffic gridlock in Bode Saadu township, as trucks and heavy duty vehicles blocked the highway. However, the good news for motorists is that the Federal Government has awarded contract for the total reconstruction of the road from Eiyenkorin to Jebba, estimated at 93.6km according to the State Controller of Works, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Omotayo Awosanya. He told Daily Trust in his office that the contract was awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited at a cost of N14.5bn with a completion period of 24 months, adding that work had started on the site. Our correspondent visited the site to inspect the ongoing work. It was observed that the contractors are already on site, doing concrete work, while the contractors’ camp was built along the area with concrete patching machine, asphalt plant and stone base already installed. The work, it was gathered, started from Kilometre 31 at Olooru, while they have filled the road with laterite up to kilometre 43 as at the time of filing this report. Awosanya said, “For security reasons, for efficiency and safety of the workers and road users, when we commence pavement work, we are going to intermittently close the road from 7:00 am to 6pm, and we are going to divert traffic to the old road along Share junction through Olooru , where there is that road safety corps office. And for us to work at a faster pace, we are going to divert traffic to the old road which is through the Share junction, and we are planning to do some maintenance work on this Share road so that it would be in a position to receive the traffic that is going to be diverted to it.That is our plan.” |

Thank God you did not die while on this journey. The last time I passed through this road was in 2010/2011 when my then girlfriend (now my wife) was serving in Minna. The road still looks pretty the same so please believe the minister when he said the road has reached 80% completion.... It had always been at 80% completion. My only pain is the man-hours and lives we waste on this road... Nawa for Naija 2 Likes |

I used to ply that route many years back, believe me, I even had to stop at a filling station to ask whether or not I had lost my way. That road needs urgent rescue... I rest my case. |
