Enugu People to Ekweremadu: You Supported Prostitution. It is time for you leave the Senate.

Rising from its emergency meeting on Sunday, 26th OCTOBER, 2014 at Awgu town in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, the Enugu West Peoples Voice (EWPV), called upon Senator Ike Ekweremadu to bow out of the senatorial race to represent Enugu West. In a press Release signed by all of the 20-man Executive Committee of the group, including its President, Barr. Chinedu Okonta and its Secretary Barr. Emmanuel Onuafor, the group slammed Senator Ekweremadu for seeking to return to the Senate for the fourth time stating that Senator Ekweremadu no longer deserves the mandate of the people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone.

The group declared Senator Ekweremadu’s record in the senate as lackluster and unsatisfactory. They also accused Senator Ekweremadu of supporting the legitimization of prostitution in Nigeria, an act for which they believe shows that Senator Ekweremadu does not deserve the mandate of the people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone, again.

“ Ekweremadu’s record in the Senate has been lackluster, yet he has falsely promoted his record to be more than what it actually is. This is a clear case of legislative puffery, misrepresentation, deception, and outright hoodwinking of the people”.

Claiming that Ekweremadu has displayed legislative incompetence and lack of ingenuity, the group challenged Senator Ekweremadu to tell the world how many original legislations he has initiated to account for his twelve (12) years in the Senate.

“We are not talking about Ekweremadu’s notoriety for improperly usurping benefits zoned to the entire south East zone all to himself and to his constituency, we are talking about the essential job of a Senator which is to make laws. How many legislations has Senator Ekweremadu initiated for the past twelve years that he has been in the Senate? It is very unfortunate that a careful review of his record will show the woeful lack of any shred of legislative ingenuity in Senator Ekweremadu. Senator Ekweremadu has no acumen for initiating good laws. He has indeed run out of Ideas if he ever had any. For this reason (among others) we no longer want Senator Ekweremadu to represent us in the Senate. We need someone else to represent Enugu West Zone in the Senate”.

The group further questioned Senator Ekweremadu’s senatorial moral compass, recalling that it was Senator Ekweremadu who wanted to legitimize prostitution in Nigeria by issuing licenses to prostitutes and allowing them to freely ply their trade to the obvious detriment of our country, Nigeria.

According to the group’s Chairman, Barr. Okonta, , “it was widely reported, that Senator Ekweremadu had stated and I quote: ‘we need to regulate prostitution in this country so that if anyone wants to indulge in prostitution, the person should be registered and issued with a licence. If we say we want to stop it, it would be difficult. It is done in other countries; let us regulate it by issuing licence.”

The group wondered what manner of Senator would advocate the legitimization of prostitution thereby indirectly encouraging our daughters to go into prostitution.

“Does the Senator not realize that prostitution leads to the spreads AIDS/HIV, break-up of families, disease, ill-health, and the general breakdown of morality in our society? This singular proposal by Senator Ekweremadu that essentially supports and encourages prostitution shows his lack of a moral beacon, thus he cannot be trusted with the future of our daughters in Enugu West Senatorial Zone, and indeed in all of Nigeria. Ekweremadu does not deserve to go back to the senate for the fourth time. The people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone have had enough of him.
