General Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo.
2 time former president (1976-1979, Military Head of state)
(1999- 2007)

Vice-president to General Murtala mohammed
(1975-1976)

Famous wars; Nigerian Civil-war.

Commanded the Nigerian Army's 3rd marine Commando division, which over-ran Owerri, effectively bringing an end to the Civil war.

He's un-arguably one of Africa's most charismatic and respected leaders.

Former president obasanjo infamously said, not even Jesus Christ can conduct a Free and fair election in Nigeria.

A comment widely reprimanded and condemned by Nigeria's powerful christian association( CAN)

2nd President of Biafra ( 8 January 1970- 12 January 1970).

Vice-president of Biafra( 30 may 1967 - 8 January 1970).

Nnaemeka L. Aneke wrote, "General Efiong’s handling of Biafra’s surrender is one of the most tactical and devoted maneuvers ever seen on the Nigerian scene. Those who do not appreciate the depth of it may not have appreciated what was at stake as Biafra capitulated."[2] Many observers had expected wholesale retribution at war's end.

it seems he is the last full blown General we had in the army. Since he retired, we've not had another full blown General.

I read one of his books titled: "The Role of The Nigerian Army in Nigeria's Foreign Objectives". (i am sorry i cant remember exactly what the title of the book is. But in the book, he suggested the following:

that Nigeria's "father christmasness" should stop and our foreign policy objectives should be based on fufilling our local need.

That Nigeria's participation in multilateral peace keeping effort should continue as it gives us the recognition in our pursuit of a permament seat at the UNSC should it arise that the body would be expanded. Also, he believes that our participation in such effort will expose our soldiers to better pay and better weaponry.

I cant recall all of his recomendations anymore but i can tell you he made interesting suggestions. The next time i go back to the school library, i would check on that book again.

I think he also advocated the expansion of DICON.
