Defection: PDP members begin Tambuwal’s recall process Category: NewsPublished on Friday, 31 October 2014 05:00Written by Abubakar Auwal, SokotoHits: 2314 Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the auspices of Tambuwal-Kebbe Development Union yesterday said they had begun collation of signatures to recall the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, whom they accused of betrayal. Tambuwal Tuesday defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The union members alleged that the speaker had betrayed them by not consulting them before joining the opposition APC, adding that the decision was in total disregard of the wishes of his people. Addressing newsmen in Sokoto, chairman of the union, Alhaji Mai’akwai Salah, said PDP members in the area ought to be consulted by the speaker as he was elected on the platform of the party. They described the decision as a “unilateral” one which lacks the blessing of his constituents. “The fact that he left the party alone is a clear testimony that his people were not part of the decision. It was a unilateral decision and we are quick to distance ourselves from it. In doing that we have begun to collate signatures of the people of Tambuwal/ Kebbe federal constituency in a bid to recall him because he is no longer representing us,” Salah added, and appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare Tambuwal’s seat vacant. Senior Special Assistant to the speaker on Media and Public Affairs, Imam D. Imam, described their claims as “laughable”. PDP is just so desperate to remove Tambuwal. Now they have gathered a bunch of unemployed youths and designated them signature collectors. Tomorrow they will tell us they have collected 5million signatures for Tambuwal's recall just like TAN was collecting 20million phantom signatures for GEJ to recon test. Maybe they think the whole constituency is made up of only PDP members. They are a bunch of jokers. |
