I was reading something about Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire, then I saw this" Abramovich was the governor of Chukotka from 2000 to 2008. It has been estimated that he spent over US$1.3 billion (€925 million) of HIS OWN money on the region, which now has one of the highest birth rates in Russia under Abramovich, living standards improved, schools and housing were restored and new investors were being drawn to the region.
Though this guy had been implicated in some rough deals in Russia, no one can deny what he did in chukotka.

They should change the sharing formular from 90/10 to 20/80. We all know how they play the game (politicians). And all the other people that made their money through govt

which 90-10? It is 100-0 in favor of politicians. In fact they go further by borrowing money in the name of the masses and share the borrowed money in ration 95:5 in favor of the politicians.

Goodluck till 2015

^^^What he's saying is that, with all the useless billionaires and millionaires we have in this country, they are yet to make their mark in any significant way like Roman did in Russia! All they're good at is making their mark in multi-million dollar real estate deals and expensive shopping trips to cities like Dubai, London, Paris and New York! Check out any list of the top five countries whose nationals spend the most in these cities mentioned, and you'll find Nigeria ably represented!

Tell me why Kano can't be doing much better economically with the likes of Dangote and Rabiu coming from there!? They want to keep their billions of dollars to themselves and their immediate families, while waiting for the state and federal gov'ts to provide everything! Of course no one is saying they are not doing anything in their state, but what we're saying is that, considering the billions of dollars they have, they're not doing enough like Roman Abramovich! For instance, why can't one of them invest proper money in Aminu Kano Int'l Airport and make it a hub for West and Central Africa; why can't one of them invest in poverty alleviation to clear the streets of all the almajiris, instead of waiting for the federal and state govt's to school, feed and house these kids; why can't one of them invest in one of the universities in their state or start their own, and make it the best university in Africa? And the same can be said of many other states with wealthy individuals (like Anambra and Abia states for instance)!

We have too many useless, greedy and selfish wealthy Nigerians (many of them thieves who stole or gained undue advantage from being close to the corridors of power) who don't know what to do with their idle money, or just aren't interested in helping others as long as they can wake up in the morning, check their bank balance, and see a 2 or 3 billion dollar figure starring back at them while outside on the streets people are dying from hunger, disease, low self-esteem and depression!

the government itself should have encouraged them by at least doing the major things,by so doing the self acclaimed rich will be happy to help the society because the government is doing the best they can,but it is not so in this country of ours.
one thing you fail to comprehend is that government has enough money to carry out all those projects but they simply would not.Does all these things happen in countries where you claim rich individuals help the society?certainly no and then you expect somebody who knows all these happens in Nigeria to start doing tremendous things.

^^^You still don't get it do you? Did Roman wait for the Russian gov't to provide all these amenities before he moved in and spent more than a billion dollars to lift a little village out of obscurity and place it on the world map?

Where you see obstacles i see a business opportunity! The gov't as we know is keen on PPP, so all those things you say are lacking; like roads, electricity, schools, hospitals, etc, (which i see the gov't is making an effort put in place by the way).....all these are business opportunities for a savvy investor! You think that Roman wouldn't make his money back ten-fold when his new city eventually gains economic traction and starts pulling in investors, tourists and immigrants from all over the world?

you should also note that Abramovic became a governor before transforming Chokota i.e he was part of the government, while he invested in the region he also got back after he had made the region a remarkable one,and so you should not expect the rich Nigerians to start spending their hard earned money on huge projects meant for the government.

THIS COMPLAIN SHOULD HAVE ONLY COME IF SOMEONE LIKE DANGOTE WAS A GOVERNOR AND NOTHING GOOD COULD BE SAID ABOUT THAT STATE.But as for now they are private individuals.
