The habit of reading has been on the decline mostly among youth, students no longer read like they use to do in years gone by. Lots of valuable informations are hidden in print, which will take only great readers to dig them out.
Reading should be part of our culture, for the path the world is trailing require mostly readers to suceed. Many find reading as a boring thing to do which shouldn't be, because reading does more of good than harm to an individual and the society.

To readers out there, tell us about your own reading habits. What do you read in an
average day? How do you read it? Do you think you are reading more
because technology makes books, magazines, newspapers, Web sites, blogs
and other sources of print entertainment and information easily available?
How do you find new things to read? Do you browse bookstores or Web
sites, or get recommendations from friends, teachers, social media or
elsewhere? Kindly tell us.

The problem these days is not a dying reading culture but information overload. With proliferation of the internet comes a vast wealth of knowledge, both fact and fiction, at our disposal. The problem right now is how to assimilate most of that knowledge and make sense of it.

The average human today is exposed to double the amount of knowledge as their counterpart in 1986. There are more books and blogs on the internet now than people to read them.

In Nigeria a fair amount of people do not read not because of intellectual laziness but inaccessibility to the internet, inadequate funds to sign up with libraries and my favourite Nigerian problem: the struggle for survival. Good luck trying to convince a hungry person a book would guarantee him a meal.

Also, too much information can be a bad thing; I've seen an old man who had never left the shores of Nigeria but could tell you in vast detail different countries of the world, their people, seasons and types of food eaten as he had come across encyclopedias as a young man. People were dumbfounded at his unique ability but I was unmoved because I personally have travelled, met these cultures and realized his descriptions were outdated.

- Things have changed for the better
- Information is easier to get nowadays
- No way to differentiate false and accurate information without first hand knowledge
- Survival is the first thing on Nigerians' minds and that surpasses the need for knowledge
- Come across a man who was a wealth of outdated information
- First hand experience always trumps reading something from a book
