Hi All, This is a brief report of our meeting with DJ's family on Thursday. We (myself, r231 and mynd) met with the family (mum, dad and brothers) at their family house around mile 2. We were warmly received and they were very thankful for the intervention you guys tried to give Hammed. As expected, the loss is very painful and still very much in their memory but they are finding solace in the fact that he is no longer in pain and thus in a much better place. We notified them that there is still some money left unspent from donated funds. We specifically asked them to give us ideas on how they intend to utilise the funds when released to them so we can table all options to you guys for ratification. We specifically didn't tell them the exact amount left of the budget so they can come up with a wide variation of options for consideration and ratification by you guys. As much as the easiest thing to do is just hand over the balance to the next of kin/guardian, we owe it to hammed to ensure whatever we receive a seal of approval from him even though he is no longer with us. In light of this, we will table all options as advised by the family and add our own recommendation if any for you guys to ratify. We hope to provide this info alongside statement of account before the end of next week and we implore that you all contribute to the process so we can reach the best possible conclusion going forward. Lastly, we prayed with them and they have sent their thanks and blessings to each and every one of us that has worked to help Hameed Kind Regards TeHN 28 Likes 6 Shares |

Dear All, We promised to provide you with options for consideration and in-turn have an option ratified so we can have an acceptable closure as far as the case is concerned. The balances of account with expenditures are stated below: Nigeria Account (Naira) = 1,105,628 PayPal ($) = 1,279 PayPal (£) = 1,205 Expenditures to date: 1,656,000 (Please see attached spreadsheet and images) In discussion with the family during our last formal meeting with them, they gave us two options for your consideration. We have also added 3 other options that we would like you to consider. Options for consideration Option 1 – Transfer the remaining balance to the family Pros · Timely closure Cons · Accountability issues on the recipient’s part. We have a duty to ensure money donated are used for intended purpose or channelled to acceptable causes · There is the issue of the family having to deal with potential rumour of them profiteering from DJ’s demise since they have never received such large amount of money before Recommendation – Not recommended Option 2 – Refund interested donors on request and transfer remaining balance to the family Pros · Donors that aren't comfortable with suggested options have the chance to receive refunds · Timely closure Cons · Donors interested in refunds will have to absorb transfer charges · The refund process will add additional delays · Accountability issues on the recipient’s part. We have a duty to ensure money donated are used for intended purpose or channelled to acceptable causes · There is the issue of the family having to deal with potential rumour of them profiteering from DJ’s demise since they have never received such large amount of money before Recommendation – Not recommended Option 3 – Use some of the remaining funds to empower (Please see specifics details of the proposed empowerment option below) the mum and the remaining to support a one-off initiative such as: Free medical check-up for interested Nlers, One off scholarship for the less privileged nlers, One off donation made by DJ to any other verified medical case on NL That honours DJ’s legacy Empowerment Details 1. Re-house the parents and pay 2-3 years rent upfront 2. Get an appropriate shop for the mum and pay 2-3 years rent upfront 3. Stock the shop so that the mum will be able to generate sufficient income to support the family going forward Pros · This will guarantee that they are self-sufficient for the foreseeable future as the empowerment includes getting them an appropriate accommodation, appropriate shop stocked with preferred goods · The initiative to honour DJ’s legacy will go a long way in remembering how much of a fighter DJ was and in turn let people learn from the struggles he experienced whilst he was alive Cons · The initiative bit of this option will add additional delays to the closure as stakeholders will need to endorse an initiative before plans are executed Recommendation – TeHN’s recommendation Option 4 (Suggested by DJ’s family) – Empower DJ’s family and donate the remaining money to the less privileged in DJ’s mosque Pros · This will guarantee that they are self-sufficient for the foreseeable future as the empowerment includes getting them an appropriate accommodation, appropriate shop stocked with preferred goods Cons · We aren’t comfortable with giving them money to donate to the less privileged in the mosque for accountability purposes Recommendation – Not recommended Option 5 (Suggested by DJ’s family and their preference) – Use the balance to buy a land and build a house for the parents in Badagry Pros Cons · The balance is simply not enough to achieve this plan · The option doesn’t address how it’s going to get them out of poverty · The vibe that we got from the meeting suggests the family was being coerced into endorsing this option by the first born. We believe he stands to gain a lot from this option as he currently lives at Badagry Recommendation – Not recommended We ask that you indicate your preferred option on this thread so we can collate it by the 20th of March. We would like to round this up before the end of March Thanks once again for all your help from day one. We really appreciate you guys and can’t thank you enough for your support throughout the years Kind Regards TeHN 11 Likes 13 Shares

I agree with option three but my suggestions will be 1 pay one year rent only (max 2) 2 Stock up a shop for mom with an agreed amount and stick to that amount 3. The rest of money to other needs of members and others as they come up and are verified Let's not be involved in providing for land purchase or provide help to people at their mosque etc Our responsibility shouldn't extend to that Individuals who choose to help them in that area directly ,are certainly encouraged to. 18 Likes |

breadandbutter:Building a mosque will not address his primary wish (To ensure his mum can feed) nor is it part of the options presented Sir. Our specific issue with handing over a large sum of money is simply that it's possible for it to be diverted against the intended purpose. 30 Likes 1 Share |
