Nine members of the House sat today to approve
the commissioner nominees, Special Advisers and
the Local Government Caretaker Committees for
the 16 local government councils.
There are 26 members in the House and the
House standing order allows a quorum of 9
members to sit and appoint speaker
plenipotentiary to preside.
So, what transpired in the House is within the law.
APC are only being hypocritical.
APC-controlled state of Edo, we all know what is
happening there.
For over a year now, the state governor has
prevented the lawmakers from sitting.
He said he was going to renovate the Assembly
Complex and PDP lawmakers have been meeting
in the dilapidated complex, while APC lawmakers
are meeting at the Government House.
Also another APC state of Rivers, the judiciary has
been shut down for over a year too.”

seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the Ekiti State House of Assembly have appointed Honourable Dele Olugbemi as the acting Speaker of the House.

Reports say the seven lawmakers were on Monday escorted into the state Assembly Complex in Ekiti by Mobile Police Commander, Selenkere Michael before they appointed Honourable Olugbemi as the acting Speaker.

There were also reports that the police were reported to have prevented 19 others including the substantive speaker, Dr. Olawale Omirin, from entering the Assembly Complex.

According to the seven lawmakers, an acting speaker was only appointed to allow it carry out urgent business of the assembly in the absence of the substantive speaker and his deputy.

The substantive speaker, Dr Omirin, however, condemned the action of the seven PDP members of the House, describing it as a reckless abuse of the constitution.

He said their actions would be challenged in court.

”Over 200 policemen could not have been deployed for this illegal act in Ekiti without the knowledge of the Inspector General of Police. Yet, the same IG trampled the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by assuming the powers of the court to unilaterally withdraw the security detail of House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal.

”Can the IG claim not to be aware that his men are offering protection to only seven out of the 26 members of the Ekiti House of Assembly? Does he honestly believe it is part of the responsibility of the police, which is being funded by tax payers, to become the enforcement arm of the PDP? Does he believe that the police that is empowered to enforce the law should play a lead role in breaking it?” the party queried.
