It was indeed a day of flood at Ikeja Computer Village yesterday as a heavy downpour of rain leaves a considerable part of Oba-Akran through the under bridge and Awolowa Way completely flooded.

The heavy downfall which stated at about 3:45pm and lasted for about 2hours had several shop owners, street hawkers and traders in the market struggle to keep their goods as it was accompanied with breeze and storm.

A cell phone and other electronic gadget repairer who simply identified himself as Okay Egwu while speaking with Polity Reporters correspondence yesterday cited excessive dumping of refuse on the streets as the major cause of the sorry situation and also call on the State government to instill more effective environmental sanitation in the market owners to avoid future re-occurrence of flood in the area.

“We have never witnessed this type of a thing before in Computer Village. It is the activities of our people that must have lead to this. Too much refuse are being dumped on the street on a daily basis which must have found their way into the drainage thereby blocking it.The Lagos state government need to effect stiffer environmental sanitation so as to avert this type of a thing in the future.” – Okay Egwu

The Computer Village, Ikeja is home to the largest agglomeration of firms and small shops that sell IT hardware, electronics, mobile phones, accessories and consumables. It is also a central market place for the repair of IT hardware, electronics and mobile phones in Nigeria.
