What does the constitution say about
defecting in the legislative sit?
be honest. The constitution is the constitution, whatever is in the constitution is the constitution. Don't be sentimental. That
man can not remain in that house
according to the constitution.

It only shows you have never read that provision of the constitution and reason you spew what you have little understanding of.

A house of rep member is expected to vacate his seat if he cross carpet provided the reason for cross carpeting is not a s a result of division, merger or factions in the sponsoring party he is defecting from.

This literally tells you that you would need a competent court to determine if there is crisis in PDP to warrant a member defect without losing their seat.

lets read the law appropriately!

This is a right move.
Is he still the speaker of the House? NO

He got Speaker's post because PDP was and is still the majority in the House. Now that he has pitched his tent with APC which has minority in the House, the right thing to do is to relinquish his position immediately he decamped.
I don't know why some people want to create unnecessary attention.
You can't eat your 'gworo kola' and have it back!

But you can eat your Akpu and have it, isn't it? Why was Yuguda still the governor of Bauchi ? Why is mimiko still a governor? Why is the house committee chair on HIV still in that position. PDP are ready to tear this country apart and I am happy with that. It should be done peacefully though.

Some 1000 soldiers and policemen have sealed the entrance of the National Assembly in Abuja and physically prevented the Speaker of the House from entering.

Sahara Reporters Media

The Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal arrived the National Assembly today with a view to preside over the sitting of the House but fierce looking troops posted the stopped him at the gate. A melee has ensued as a result.
Mr. Tambuwal, President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling People’s Democratic Party are at loggerheads over the Speaker’s decision to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC) a few weeks ago.

Immediately he joined the APC his personal security guards were withdrawn on the orders of the President.

And it is a pitiable dishma pishma which can create a political crinkum crankum in the polity.

This veritable bugaboo of armed soldiers, DSS, and police officers invading the premises of the NASS must be poo-poed by all compos-mentis homosapiens.

This is simply executive lawlessness run amok.

Whilst I agree that Tambuwal remains the Speaker pending the ruling by a Federal High Court, the law is silent on the consequences of a governor or President defecting to another party.

So after his defection without division in PDP as ajurdicated by a federal high court, you want him to remain a speaker in the house membership he forfeited by virtue of his defection? And you think it will not mean a gross violation of 1999 constitution?

You need to read that section of the constitution again!

The President shouldn't have tried this in the first place. This is a war he definitely can not win. He will come out of this battle terribly bruised because what he did today will strengthen the solidarity among the members irrespective of party divide. You do not use brute powers to fight this sort of battle. Surely, the President and his party have lost some supporters through this un-necessary and un-informed action.

Hmmmmmm!
Lost or garnered more?

It think is otherewise because he has started to drum it into the ears of some people that he can fight and fight dirty.

If he has remained quiet some people will claim he has no balls and now he wants to show he has them.

LOL.

If he refused to do the right thing why not let members decide on his fate, does the constitution list police gate locking and tear-gassing as one of the methods of removing a speaker?

You people should keep dancing on the grave of the heroes and martyrs of this democracy we have and provide a fertile ground for the military to intervene. This was how the first coup and eventual civil war started like play when the federal police tear gassed members in the Western house of assembly.

A speaker is nominated amongst the reps and voted in democratically.
All the house need do is to vote to either keep or replace Tumbawal, This has nothing to do with PDP council or FG.
