Against the thinking of many people in
Rivers State that President Goodluck
Jonathan will prevail over the immediate
past Minister of State for Education,
Nyesom Wike, to sacrifice his governorship
ambition for the purpose of equity, the
reverse is the case as the former minister
embarks on the opening of his campaign
offices across the state.
More so, there was unconfirmed
information last week that the former
Foreign Affairs Minister, Henry Odien
Ajumogobia, who is from the Ijaw Kalabari
area of the state, would be favoured in
place of Wike, as the next governor of the
state.
In what looks like a desperate move to
resolve the lingering crisis in the Rivers
State chapter of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), the Presidency might have
been armed twisted to consider a Kalabari
candidate as a way of assuaging the
people’s anger.
An informed source close to the Abuja seat
of power divulged to Sunday Independent
at the weekend that rather than losing the
state in the forth-coming governorship
election in February, wise counsel might
have prompted the Presidency to rather
scout for an untainted Kalabari person that
would be generally acceptable to the
people of the state despite his tribe.
The source hinted that the party may
consider the choice of Ajumogobia, a
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from
Abonnema area of Akuku Toru local
government area, as its choice candidate.
Ajumogobia was a Commissioner for
Justice and Attorney General in Rivers
State in the first tenure of former Governor
Peter Odili in 2003.
He is generally believed to be highly
incorruptible despite the fact that he has
been in politics over the years.
An expert in commercial litigation,
environment and transport law,
Ajumogobia may be the PD’s best choice
to calm frayed nerves, particularly those
that are not comfortable with Wike’s
ambition.
Wike, it would be recalled, had told the
Rivers people on the day of his reception,
that he would work with anybody that wins
the party’s primary next month, as long as
it would enable the PDP win the state.
It would also be remembered that on
October 30 at the Liberation Stadium in
Port Harcourt, about 16 governorship
aspirants, majority of who were Kalabari
indigenes on the platform of the party, in
conjunction with Mainstream Coalition,
publicly announced why Wike should not
be considered for the governorship.
But, majority of the Rivers indigenes are
still rooting for the former minister as
witnessed in all his sensitisation rallies
across the state in recent times.

Confussion everywhere in rivers state we are still waiting for the annointed man

All I see is people fighting hard to protect their interests.

The major problem is the unwarranted interest of the Jonathan-LED government in Rivers State.

I guess it is high time the people of Rivers State decides the direction they want to follow.

They should allow primaries to decide the winner, Nyesom Wike should be allowed to reap where he has sown.

When Wike is involved, there'll definitely be confusion.

It is normal for rumours, claims and counter claims like this to come up prior to an election of this nature.
The simple truth is that Wike would be the next governor of Rivers State as the people are solidly behind Wike.

Anyone who votes wike is a fool of the highest degree

Wike should be disqualified and allow him to sponsor a candidate from either the Ogonis or the riverine ijaw because of the zoning arrangement

WIKE(Ikwerre man) cannot succeed Gov. Amaechi(Ikwerre man) after 8yrs. Wike is the only Ikwerre man contesting to take over from his brother. The Ikwerres know that they have served their 2terms through Amaechi, that's why no Ikwerre man indicates interest except the over ambitious, greedy,lack of conscience and no respect for agreement WIKE. Whatever he claims he has done for the R/S PDP should not be the basis to disregard and insult other ethnic groups that has not been Gov of the state. He has the money and therefore manipulating the process to favour him. If he eventually becomes the Gov, he would set wrong precedence.Remember other groups are watching.When they become Gov, they'll also stay 16yrs!!

The confusion is in APC!

PDP are waiting for Amaechi to "show his hand" then PDP will unveil their joker.

PDP cannot afford to let go of Rivers and Lagos States!!!
